Title: Scrounging on the Health Service
Post by: Colwyn on October 27, 2009, 14:55:59 PM
I often hear and read people complaining bitterly about foreigners coming to the UK making use of our free NHS. "We wouldn't be treated like that over there" they say.

This morning I was stung by a bee.  I suffer an anaphylactic reaction to such stings and so presented myself at the local Health Clinic.  I was immediately seen and given an injection.  This afternoon I returned to register my passport and pay my bill. I was told "No money. You can go". I felt a little guilty since I have made no contribution (except Turkish VAT) to the health service. I am making a rapid recovery and would like to say ...

... Thank you, Turkey

Wishing you a good recovery.  It's good to know that is isn't all about money  all the time.  BTW, what hospital did you go to??

Was this in the Devlet?  As we had a similar experience with a friend.  No charge.

My wife spent three days in a Hospital in Samsun suffering with Pneumonia,
when she left all they charged us for was the medication used,
she recovered from the Pneumonia ok but unfortunately went on to
develop Typhoid were she had to spend three weeks in an isolation
hospital in Teheran.
She was infected with Typhoid in the Samsun Hospital.:(

and they say there's no such thing as a free lunch ;)
