Title: Road tax added to council tax
Post by: janmack on October 30, 2009, 10:40:49 AM
Has anyone else been asked to pay "road tax" when they've gone to pay their council tax?  We went to pay ours today and were told we had to pay an additional 827TL "because we had new roads laid last year".  We paid our council tax but told them we'd pay the road tax at a later date.  Is this a new thing???

Yes we had this a couple of years back in Koca Calis - not that much though - is it a motorway?

Our neighbours on the next road have been told that the Belediye intends paving their road during the winter and that they will have to make a contribution to the cost.

Interesting.  One of the guys in the office said it was because we are on a complex.  However there are also lots of private detached homes, apartments etc on our road, owned by Turkish and foreigners.  Must have a chat with some of them to find out if they have been asked for money.  What makes it worse is that the roads aren't even block paved, they're tarmac and loose chips!

Fair enough Stuart but we didn't get block paving and the roads were resurfaced 2 years ago not last year.  Other owners I know paid their council tax in August of this year and they were not asked to pay any extras.  Just find it a bit odd that's all.  I will ask owners on the other side of the road, who do not live on a complex, if they are being charged.  We don't mind paying our dues so long as everyone else is.

Also there are are 4 complexes, 3 Lissas and 1 Nicholas with roughly 96 villas apartments.  If we're all asked for over 800TL, that comes to nearly 80000TL...maybe we should get a motorway!  Lissa Park alone would be paying 20,675TL...crazy.
One of our neighbours across the road (not on a complex) is going to pay his council tax on Monday so will keep you posted.
