Hey
My lovely 20 year old daughter put me to shame today. She emailed me to ask whether I had an odd shoe box lying around at home. On further questioning she tells me that she has been buying items to put in a shoe box to send out to soldiers in Afghanistan. She sent me the link below. She made me cry to be honest and I said I would do a box myself, Maybe a few others could do a box too???

We used to do the shoebox appeal for Romanians at my last job.
I worked with adult with learning disabilities and we all used to do them at night. The last year I was there we had over 40 boxes to send.
Well done to your daughter GB.
I am sure I have two boxes upstairs.
(Got into the habit of keeping them :-\)

thanks GB - I had also heard about this and had meant to do it, you've reminded me. Thanks ! (shame you're not allowed to put a bottle of beer in it though, they deserve a glass or two.).

Im going to do a box and have asked the other girls at work to do one :-) will also ask permission to send to the whole floor (I work for KPMG so there is a lot of us!)
The more the better and it is such a good cause.

Will be taking downloaded posters into work today so fingers crossed!

being charitable brings it's rewards! Step one - purchase a pair of shoes so that I have a shoe box to fill:D

Been out buying bits for the box. Deodrant, shower gel, mince pies, chocolatew orange. It's not as easy as you think trying to buy for stuff to go in a shoe box. But I couldn't resist these beauties!

One of my local estate agents placed an appeal in the free newspaper for people to donate these filled shoe boxes for the troops. In three weeks they have recieved THREE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED filled and gift wrapped boxes. How fantastic.(they can't move in their office now)[^][^]

Dropped off 12 boxes collected from my workplace, at my local football team (Tranmere Rovers) club shop who are co-ordinating the efforts on Wirral. Every little helps. Politics aside these troops do a wonderful job and deserve a few home comforts.

Don't want to put a damper on things but heard a senior officer on the radio yesterday asking people not to send parcles etc because the sheer volume is hampering the deliver of mail from relatives.
