Title: Burglary
Post by: joannasal on November 09, 2009, 13:41:52 PM
Following on from the topic in the Fethiye forum:
Sadly another burglary occurred this morning where I live (Symbola Apartments, Deliktas), between 9.00 am and lunch time (about noon). This time it was a childs motorised car which would not have been able to be lifted - it would need to go in a flat bed truck. The owners were out, I was in but was unaware of anything.

We pay a company each month for 'maintenance' which is supposed to include garden care, pool care (it is currently growing a nice crop of mould and green stuff on the bottom) and a 24 hour guard. Despite our complaints none of us who permanantly reside here have ever set eyes on the guard and no one seems to be taking any notice of us - except to take our monthly charges.

Not good

Hi Joanna, we also have an apartment in Symbola but only get over a couple of times a year. I was sorry to hear about yet another burglary and perhaps if a guard had been there this burglary might have been avoided. I also pay maintenance but was not aware that a guard was included in the package. Niall & Leasa

Hi Niall and Leasa,

I think you met Tony and Kay when you were last here, but I did not get a chance to say hello - so Hello!

Yes, the security guard is supposed to be included. One of the apartments in Block C also had an attempted break in during the day in August. Both this recent one and the attempted break in happened to ground floor apartmets and both in the day - a bit worrying.
Hope to meet you both properly when you next come over.

Hi Joanna,

We've been following the forum regarding the apparent increase in break ins and thefts in the area lately, this seems to be a worrying trend, is it because Deliktas is such a secluded, quiet place ??, and we, like Niall and Leasa did not realise that our maintenance cover included security, but we did think (as Mohammed told us) that there would be a permanent caretaker and he also mentioned security cameras being fitted, unless this was part of his sales "pitch".

We hope you are well regardless of these recent events, have you spoken to Mustafa lately ??, we will attempt to Email Manzara about the problems, but as you probably understand it's more difficult sometimes to get things done from "this end" !!!.

Look after yourself and keep in touch Tony & Kay

We have had confirmation from Ramazan that cctv is to be installed and will be a 24 hour coverage over the whole complex, hopefully this will be an effective deterrant. A security guard or caretaker was never mentioned to us at any stage from either the security company or Manzara. If anyone hears anything else then please let us know. Niall & Leasa

Mustafa is due this week or next and I will speak with him. When he first came round to me in August he actually asked me if I had seen the guard at night - I replied no as I usually sleep at night! When the attempted break in happened I know Manzara and AtoZ were contacted but I am not sure what was the outcome. I think the poor pool boy got the brunt of the ladys' distress and anger, not sure what she said to Mustafa though.

Cameras are in some places - but not connected. As you can imagine A and A are really unhappy about what happened yesterday (spitting fire would be a good phrase). I believe they are going to speak with Ato Z this week.
Hopefully this is not going to be a regular occurrence and all will settle down again quickly.

I think the cameras are not fully connected yet because Manzara are waiting for D block to be completed after which the cctv system will be fully up and running.

As has also been said on the forum, these "scallywags", are not just selecting expats to steal from, hopefully our fine Turkish neighbours will rally together as they can be quite vocal and can hopefully "rattle a few cages !!!".

I kind of guessed who's motorized car it was and I can imagine A & A are spitting feathers, please tell them we're really sorry, and hopefully these thefts are isolated incidents and will stop soon.

The last two burglaries of homes owned by Turkish people resulted in the burglar getting shot, and the burglar being kicked off the roof terrace as he tried to climb over it's wall onto it. Not sure whether those constitute "reasonable force"  ;)

Hello all, can't believe what has happened to my neighbours tonight AGAIN.Munchy Pete put on this forum that he had been burgaled last week, well that was bad enough in itself, well tonight he came to my house to do me a favour, whilst having a cup of tea here in my home,he was only out for an hour,he went back to his house and they HAVE BURGALED HIM AGAIN.He and his wife have just spent all week fitting locks to all doors and windows to make it more secure and feel safe in their house, and the robbing *******s  came back and decided to smash the bedroom window in, Her words are , i quote( what is the point of fitting window locks when they have now smashed the windows ).So people beware, nothing is sacred, what do we have to do stop these horrendous attacks on peoples house, and personal belonging what they have worked and saved for ,for years .

Truly horrible reading. My heart goes out to Mr and Mrs Munchie, nobody should have to live in so much fear that they can't feel safe leaving their homes and treasured possessions for even an hour. There appears to be a definite targeting of Deliktas and it will be interesting to see what, if any, action is taken to address this.

The problem is that it is very quiet up there in the Winter months so when they spot a light on at any time they know that someone is in residence and they are an easy target when they go out. I really feel for them.

Title: Burglary
Post by: von54 on November 13, 2009, 01:04:54 AM
Hi again, many thanks for all your replies, yes it seems as it was someone very close, and been watching,as its the first time since they got burgaled as they have been out at night, but they were only gone for an HOUR maybe not even that amount of time, and to find their bedroom window had been completely smashed and the BED had been searched and mattress moved, was, and is very shocking, they had taken everything the first time,so it seems as if they were looking for more, maybe, god only knows. At this moment in time Mrs Munchy is asleep in my spare room,Mr munchy is downstairshe is too upset to sleep, and he is keeping watch through the window,as he can't do much else, now he has to go back and go through the process of doing another police report and various other things all over again. The police say there were no fingerprints or footsteps,PLEASE COME ON GET REAL,its been tipping down all day and the balcony must have some prints on there,as i know when even a cat has been on my balcony when its been raining ,because when  i've heard them i've gone outside and you can see the paw prints where they have walked. If anyone knows about this i ask you, please try and help them, they are a lovely couple and so nice and friendly, they are the first to help anyone if needed .By the way their real names are Peter and Chris Malchom, he is a retired fire officer, and well known in his line of work, and saved many lives during his service. Many people remember Christines  brother who died here 2 years ago from a heart attack,he was named JEFF JACKSON,so they have had a trying time all round as they like to come out this time of year to pay their respects to him at his grave in Ovackic in october. These are sad times we live in i know, once is bad enough, but come on,twice in a fortnight is downright dispicable, they both can't wait to get home now as this has made then feel unsafe and insicure and very vunerable to say the least.

Too much of a coincidence to be done twice when you think of all the properties in Deliktas - mine included. You must feel terrible, are timers available like you can get in the uk that switch lights on and off whilst you are out? - looks like this may be something to consider.

Wishing you all the luck in the world in getting this sorted and hopefully catching those who pray on those who work hard for what they have rather than work hard themselves.

I had thought about that but someone posted said they seem to target properties that seem lived in like leaving lights on, so is having lights on timers a good idea.
We have lights around the house in UK on timers coming on at all times to make it look like someone is in, more so when we are out at night.

It's a risky stratergy to break into a house where it looks like people are in, especially when you are breaking the glass. Who knows maybe the robbing watsits saw them go out and acted.

We are in Forest Hills next door and our night watchman used to regularly patrol with a rifle over his shoulder (something we were not too happy about). As well as patrolling our complex he also used to walk up to Symbola. His attendance at night has become a little sporadic and this may have created an additional security weakness.

Hi Niall,

Indeed work has begun on D Block. They started in earnest last week and the progress is quite amazing (and a bit noisy!!). Have been taking progress pics just for interest - the best ones were at 8.30pm last Thursday (I think it was Thurs) when the huge concrete spreader turned up! Pitch black, but the job got done! The second lot of concrete was done this SUnday morning, a ginormous crane thingy to distribute the concrete and all done by remote control - quite fascinating.

Also the little local shop has re opened. Out of the gate and go left as if going to the bus. Just before you go up the slope go right and the shop is up there on the left. Nice man, good English, decent stock.

Glad the wee shop has reopened, handy for basic things.

Hi Tony and Kay, to answer your question (as I have not got round to writing properly to you yet!) - NO! The only work going on with the rest of Symbola is the usual man doing the odd bit of gardening and stairwell cleaning. Otherwise all activity is focused on D Block.

The little shop is generally trying to be used by most of us who live here as it is a godsend in the winter. No more tramping up and down the hill just for a 50 kurush loaf of bread. I have also been told that within a week or so he is hoping to get his alcohol and tobacco licence and i believe he is going to set up a home delivery service. He is planning on a leaflet drop soon so when that happens I will let everyone know. His prices on some items are a little bit more than in the town, but that (for me) is overridden by the concenience factor. He has cheese, eggs, yoghurt, turkey sausages (not too bad) sucuk, crisps, nuts and snack things, biscuits, shampoo, washing powder and conditioner, candles, sweets, tea, coffee, coffee mate, icing sugar, loo rolls, cooking oil, cleaning products etc etc.

Good news about the little shop I hope it's a success, it sounds very handy for us "trolls" living so far up the valley !!.

Up date today - torrential rain and a really weird sky! Almost illuminous.

It is good that we all keep in touch and it is also nice for me to get to know some more people where I live. Most of the people I currently know are from Calis or Ovacik and I am called 'the lady on the hill' (note to Tony - not a troll!!).
