For all you daredevils out there who want to do something different following the excesses of Christmas Day, the Carnival Committee are inviting you to join them and take part in the annual sponsored "Big Splash" in the sea at Calis on Boxing Day.
We hope that the brave "splashers" will seek sponsorship and wear fancy dress for the event - the wackier the better! (although this is optional it makes great fun for the spectators :D).
Last years "Splash" was an enormous success - we had clowns, super heroes, fairies a nun and even a Christmas tree complete with tinsel and baubles racing into the sea and we raised a lot of money for the children. We hope that we have even more "splashers" this year so nows the time to start thinking of your costumes ;).
This years event will take place on the beach opposite Serkul 1. Assembly will be from 12.00 noon and the Big Splash will take place at 1.00. Afterwards there will be free hot sweet and sour soup for the brave splashers (courtesy of Serkul 1) as well as mulled wine. The Serkul will also be serving their popular Sok menu if anyone is hungry.
Sponsorship forms are available from the Carnival Committee on 0535 8554919 or 0536 3739520 and they will soon be available in named bars on the seafront so watch this space :D
-
I'll do it for the right money!:D
-
I've heard you'll do ANYTHING for the right money :).
Seriously, put my name down first on your sponsorship form I'll square up with you when we next meet if that's ok. :)
-
I've put you down for a grand H is that ok?
but its not enough yet so anyone want to join in feel free,I don't come cheap:D
Also all monies raised is for the Carnival not the Animals ;)
Tinx
-
Tinks.I'll sponser you for £10,if you stay in the sea for 10 minutes.Seriously.(any less,your're a cissy).Shall I pay Chrissie?. :) :)
-
Being equally as generous as Kev, I'll also sponsor you £10 for 10 minutes in the sea. That's the 11 minutes to 20 minutes immediately after Kev's 10 :D
-
Chrissy, How long do we have to be in the sea this year? Last year was 5 minutes.
Kaz :)
-
Many more takers Keith and we'll have him emerging from the sea looking like a prune. :)
-
Well that's the way he'll go in
-
Problem Yok guys, keep it coming:D
-
No cheating Tinx, no lovely warm wetsuits or electric fires
-
damn shame we won't be there to witness it Tink.....but we're in for £10 too. Photographic evidence required (prune or no prune...) xx
-
If you didnt get to see this spectacle last Boxing day you missed a real treat. The atmosphere was fantastic as were the costumes. The looks on the faces of the Turkish people was pure amazement that the English were actually going to go IN the water. Hope they get loads of support this year ...wonder what Tinks fancy dress will be !!!
-
:-\:D
-
I make that £1030 so far, fancy dress is extra:D
-
hubbles - lets just hope its not Borat's mankini... :o:D

Joking apart . Andy I think it is lovely of you to support our Carnival charity in this way. Although I know that you already do in many other ways. I am sponsoring Bee but I would have gone for you...
-
now Mr Tinkerman - thats not nice :D You know I'd never wear a green hat like that !!!
-
Simon said he will give you a tenner Andy. But i whant to know where you had the lip implants done Pookie :)
-
OOH! £1040, nearly half way already:D
-
Hi Caz, yes it's five minutes minimum - but in Tink's case I think we are up to an hour and a half! :D

Boat wanted

If anyone is coming out to Calis for the Christmas holiday and would like to take part in the sponsored splash on Boxing Day, I can e-mail you a sponsor form so that you can get sponsors in UK. Just contact me or marjo through our e-mail addresses on the forum.
For people in the Calis area, forms are now available in the Nil Bar and will be in Kismet Bar, Serkul 1, Bostans and Orient in a couple of days time. Or you can telephone 0535 8554919 or 0536 3739520
Oh and by the way I'm still waiting for Tinkerman to pick up a form :D:D:D
-
I don't need one its all in writing on here:D
but I havent had enough sponsors to guarantee doing it yet, I need a £100 at least:D
Tinx ;)
-
damn, you drive a hard bargain. OK: £25.00 from us, not the previous £10. But we will need photographic evidence before we pay up !!!
-
:D ;) Thanks Pookies!
-
Will give you a form this week so that you can keep track of all your sponsors - maybe you will need 2?
Diverbaz and Caz filled one side of theirs in half an hour at Children in Need night - you'll have to have a competition to see who can raise the most :D
-
Don't worry Andy if you fall short of the £100 the Carniva; charity would sponsor you,:D we would hate to see you miss out on a dip in the sea : :)
Mark
-
Cheers Mark:D

-

-
I'll put it into the post today keith
-
There was a video taken last year. I am certain that there will be another. Mark Tinks is doing it for the Calis Carnival fund because he is a nice guy. A glutton for punishment but nice. lol

I know he is Anne but I did not want him to get off the hook if say he only had £80 we would sponsor him for £20 still making £80 and Andy gets a soaking :D
-
I am all up for that. Pity we won't be here to see it.
-
Hey Tinks put us Crewsies down for £10.00 but like the others need photographic proof before we pay up,
I understand it is 10 minuntes per £10.00 pounds sponsored, so if everyone on the forum will contribute you'll be in there for days!
-
Hey Thanks Guys, I think another £50 and I might do it:D
-
On a serious note i am thinking of taking part can anyone explain what happens.
Thanks
-
You get wet:D

Very funny,as a ex swimming teacher i think i know what swimming is,do people at the boxing day splash swim or just get in and splash around,if that is not too much of a hard question
-
You get wet:D
-
Hi Vonny
To answer your question, as long as you are in the sea for a few minutes it's up to you what you do! You can splash about, swim whatever. As long as you get wet by going in the sea you have fulfilled your duty to your sponsors!!
The main aim is just to have lots of fun on the day!
if you would like to take part then pick up a sponsor form from Serkul restaurant, Nil bar, Orient Bar & Bostans in Calis or Kismet Bar in Fethiye. Alternatively i can send you one to print off (just contact me by email)
Hope to see you on the day
Jo

If anyone could post a few more group photo's on the forum that would be great as I didn't have my camera today.
The splash was great fun and well done to the organisers and thank you to all the spectators for watching us make idiots of ourselves. Just to let you know that I was environmentally friendly and collected up every piece of my soggy oxo cube as it very quickly disintegrated !!
Jo (oxo cube !!)

Thanks Baz, I know who you mean!Good idea!

Great to see all the photos of the day-can't put mine on as laptop is currently still being fixed :(
However for more great photos take a look at the Boxing Day Splash slide show on our Carnival website at www.caliscarnival.com. Thanks to iain (Fethiye Times)for taking the photos & arranging the slide show.
We want to say a BiG BiG THANK YOU to EVERYONE for taking part & coming down to support the event on the day. The weather was very kind to us yet again & as Busybee says we have raised approximately 1500 TL for the Carnival charities (once we have received all the sponsor monies):D
Any outstanding monies can be given to any committee member, or to Angel in the Nil Bar (we will ensure that you are given a receipt for money collected).
Big thanks go to the Serkul 1 for hosting the event & for providing the hot & sour soup free of charge to all who wanted it. Also they worked hard in the morning to clear the beachfront of the plastic debris that had washed up over the previous few days.
Thanks once again to everyone!
Jo & Mark

Tinx, your welcome, was going to spend a fortune travelling to London to see Pompey take on West Ham, decided not to go and wait another week until the Fulham game instead, the money I would have wasted on that lot has gone on the sales instead and you got the difference!
Well done for your splash, love the outfit!
Happy New Year to you and yours. May see you around the Calis area next year - think we have mutual friends!
-
