if anyone can help please.....

Thankyou x

I think that it is after 5 years marriage. Anyway that is how long 2 of my friends had to wait unless things have changed.
-
presumably your spouse is a turkish national if so and u have had residency permit for three years then you can apply.
-
Go with your hubby to the passport police down Fethiye harbour and they will give you all the relevant information.
-
She's asking here!
-
The passport police will give you the forms, three years is the correct amount of time. You are now required to take a test to show that you can get by with the Turkish language. The process can take up to a year, so if your current residents permit is running out, you will still need to renew it.
-
You will also need to go to the Devlet hospital and obtain a form on which you will need to get 8 different doctors signatures. You must not have been out of Turkey for more than 3 months during the 3 years you have been resident here. You must also go to the police station to get a certificate that shows you have no criminal record here and this has to be countersigned by the court. You will be intervied in Turkish by several officers to ascertain that you can speak the language adequately. This is done in Mugla. As Harmless stated above, this can take up to a year.Good Luck

My friend has just got her kimlik after being married for 3 years and she didn't have to go through half of this... You don't need to have had residency and she spent more than 3 months out of the country during those 3 years. She was very worried about the Turkish language test in Mugla but walked in to the room with her husband and son and was in there less than 30 seconds. They said that they could see they were a family and that was enough. I'm seeing her on Thursday so will find out the exact details and send you an email.

I did mine this year (well started in November and finally got my kimlik in August)
Presuming your husband is a Turkish citizen, you need to go to Mugla with your passport, residency if you have it, marriage book (take photocopies of all of these too) a nufus paper from the office in Fethiye and names, addresses and telephone numbers of 2 people who agree to give a reference for you. These 2 people must be turkish citizens and you must have known them for at least 2 years.
The office in Mugla will give you more paperwork to fill in while you are there and start processing for you.
You will then be called you your local jandarma station to provide fingerprints and the authorities will check that you do not have a criminal record.
The office in Mugla will then call you with an interview date. The interview is also held in Mugla. I had to go in without my husband first. They asked me questions about when and where we met etc. Then they called my husband in and asked him a few questions too. They will tell you if you have been successful or not at the end of the interview. Then it's just a case of waiting for the paperwork to come through from Ankara so you can go and get your kimlik.

hi everyone just hoping someone can give me some advice. my boys and i have been here 5 years come june and are doing the kimlik process. i understand the process etc, but my question is this - what will we really gain? and what will we loose as far as Uk is concerned if anything? im not sure if its worth doing as i am petrified of the turkish exam, even tho i have been learning for 5 years still struggle so much. im not married or involved with a turkish man and feel this will be held against me too. can any one help a nervous family!! thanks Liz (and please dont suggest i marry a turk!)
-
Well it means you don't have to pay for residency anymore :D
It also means you can work legally without requiring a permit. As far as I know you don't lose anything British, it isn't like taking full citizenship and losing your British citizenship, you gain a second nationality. If you are worried about the interview, take one of your children along (assuming they speak Turkish well) and they'll soon steal the show.
-
Would it not mean that your sons will have to do National Service if they get Turkish Nationality
-
yes as far as im aware they will have to do national service but because they are British they will not be allowed guns etc and will do office work within the military. thats what i know at the moment as we all know everything changes every other minute!! thanks scunner, i will have to take the children as they will be going through the process too and they both speak perfect turkish, its just when they officials speak to me i go to bits!!!

I got my kimlik but chose to do it through the Turkish consulate in London alot easier they asked me one question in Turkish all they wanted to know was what i knew about ataturk and what he gave to Turkey.
I received it 4 months later by fax and picked up the number from gunlukbasi police station then went of to fethiye to collect it.
Nice n easy hassel free but if any of you do decide to do it from here make sure you take your medical papers with you. if i remember it cost me about £60 all in all. :)
-
Blimey £60! I paid 2 grand for mine in a car park
-
This may be going off topic slightly, but what exactly is a kimlik?
I have general idea, but like an actual 'definition' would be nice
:)
-
It is an eleven digit number that the MERNIS computer gives to you when you gain the necessary qualifications to become a citizen of Turkey. The number is used in official transactions like banking, tax and doing business generally.
-
Ohh sort of like a national insurance number, but not.
Thanks :)
-
Yes the benefits are good of having a kimlik,
working legally without permit
no waiting at the visa quene at Dalaman airport, I just walk straight through now!
Useful when doing official paper things-notary etc.
You have the same rights as Turkish people, and have dual nationality.
You loss nothing British, as the UK recognises dual nationality.
I have had mine for 8 years and has been extremely useful.
Hope this helps anyone thinking of applying for a kimlik.
Has anyone gone through this procedure who is English not married to a Turk, my Dad would love his but know he wouldnt pass the turkish exam.
-
The kimlik is issued after you have been granted Turkish citizenship, the UK & Turkey recognise dual nationality and it is very helpful for all the above quoted reasons most importantly avoiding the residence permit payments which have recently rocketed or the need to remember a trip every 3 months and the ability to work without the virtually 'impossible to obtain' permit. You can travel easily in and out on your kimlik and British passport, no need to get a Turkish one. If you have a Turkish spouse the marriage has to have lasted 3 years, but you can start to apply before it has by a few months, there is no Turkish exam, but at the Mugla interview they do ask you a few things in Turkish, the ability to mumble something seems to suffice. If you require a med certificate then try the Saglik Ocagi it is cheap, one stop and if you can breath you pass! The one by the tuesday market did mine.
For resident foreigners you have to be here for 5 years and I believe you do have to take some sort of Turkish exam, a few enquiries from friends and neighbours could help with this and maybe the Dept of Education, which is upstairs from the Nufus or population folk. The manager of the 'population' office in the front of the Kaymakam's building can also be helpful about what is needed especially if you have a Turkish speaker with you. He's the guy you see to arrange a wedding date.

Having read this and other replies/posts from SueT looks like KKOB has a female rival.: :)
-
spot on sue!
also with citizenship you can also buy property on the same day without having to wait and pay for the expense of military permission.
-
Is that a bka dreamon?
I don't know where to find the smilies on the 'quick reply'?! or I would tag a cheeky looking one on, you'll have to imagine it.
-
I know this thread has been running for well over a year - but I have been reading it with interest.
In December 2010 I had to go to the Devlet Hospital- not through A & E, but booked into the clinic to see a Doctor urgently on a pay-as-you-go basis. I only had the 3 month visa stamp in my passport. The lady who dealt with me, processed my details on a computer then wrote down a number for me & told me not to lose it as I would need it in future - my Kimlik number.
It is an eleven digit number starting 71.840.***.***
Have I been issued with a Kimlik number without jumping through hoops? Or is this just an emergency number they issue when people book in?
Is there anyway of checking it on "the system"?
If anyone can shed any light on the matter it would be appreciated.
Thanks

There is a residents Kimlik number which isn't the smae as a citizens one. I thought it was just an Admin thing but had to produce it when I bought my scooter and also my bank ahve asked for it. Maybe someone else can tell us more about it :-)
