Has anyone found out if extra payment for road tax is just for the house, if you have two names on tapu they are getting double the money is this right.[^]

Tax is per house. If two names on the tapu then it is divided.

I think you might mean doubled!! and if you live on a corner plot, its doubled again, you pay for two roads.See more details in property owners posts as suggested. If in doubt go to the beledeye with your last council tax bill and ask for the road tax amount applicable to you.(before the end of December if you want a discount)Good luck.

We paid ours yesterday. 248 lira each.

Two names on Tapu then both have to pay; total paid was 496 lira.

The discount was deducted automatically.

From the receipt it looks as if we were fined as well. Because the "tax" was due in quarterly instalments from January 2008.

Surely this depends on when your roads were 'built'. Our road was only laid in October 2008, and with all the rain we had last week there is a huge dip in the road where they laid the sewer pipes!:(

Paul, reference the last para in your post.Would the fine you refered to be purely for the council tax element? I believe the road tax has only just surfaced, and was not around in 2008. The council tax payment is payable in either one or two payments ( may and November)of each year.Is the road tax itemised separately on the receipt

We pay our "council" tax once per year.I don't know the exact date but it must have been in April or May at the time there was no reference to "road tax". I can only assume that It has been back dated " theirs not to reason why"

Our receipt for the "road tax" only shows road tax. The receipt is itemised as payment due in four parts, all dated 1,2,3,or 4 2008, and each part shows 2 figures a larger sum for example 60lira and another for around 3 lira (the figures are not exact because the receipts are now in our safe)

I went yesterday to the Beledeye with a Turkish friend to check on the road tax situation. We went in the office behind the counter to see if we had to pay, we moved to a new villa in Gunlukbasi in May this year and one of the neighbours had been charged. We were told we have nothing to pay the debt is from 2008 when the new road was done the owner of the villa at that time is responsible for paying (the builder).
I was worried the debt would be on the house but he assured me it is a personal debt and nothing to do with the property. The law was passed in 2008 to allow the council to charge for road building, they have only this year started collecting the money.
