Yaniklar Village School has recently had two classrooms fitted with new UPVC window frames thanks to the supporters of Calis Carnival Charity and Fethiye Property Services.
Earlier last year the Carnival Committee received an application from Yaniklar Village School for assistance in purchasing new frames to replace the rotting wooden frames in two of their classrooms. The small village school which teaches children aged 6 to 11, was built in the 1960's and the original wooden windows were so rotten and spongy that you could push your fingers right through the frame and chunks of wood were breaking away. Over the last few 5 years parents and teachers at the school have held various fundraising activities to raise enough money to replace frames in all but the last two classrooms. The condition of these remaining frames was so bad that rain water was damaging equipment.
On the day that committee members Mercury and Marjo visited the school, with Engin from building contractors Fethiye Property Services, there was a heavy downpour and rain was driving in through the frames onto electrical equipment making it very unsafe for the children. Engin generously agreed that if the Carnival Committee could purchase new double-glazed window units and materials, then his company would provide the labour at no charge. He was also able to obtain materials for us at cost price.
Work was completed before the New Year at a cost of 1000 TL - saving the Committee 1000 TL on the original estimate. Thanks to the generosity of Engin and the many Calis Carnival supporters, the children now have a nice dry, draught-free classroom and the money saved can now go to help another deserving cause. Thank you everybody.

Dodn't bring a tear to my eye but did give me a warm feeling.
Especially when you realise that the builders do a lot of work when the restaurants and hotels are closed.
The carnival committee are doing good work all the time. It is something like this that brings home the huge difference that a charity can make.

hi
We love what you have managed to do at Yaniklar Village School, Well done to all concerned.
We have just made a small donation through paypal to the Calis carnival committee.
I call the bingo for the old dears in our small town and get paid a token amount for doing so, this is what I have just donated - my earnings for December!
Please would you put the money to good use in the Ciftlik, Kargi or Yaniklar areas as this is where we have a small property.
Many thanks
Carol

Engin has kindly joined the Carnival Committee. He is very keen to help the poorer schools in this area. He really is a lovely man.
