Copied from another source. May have been seen before.
Warning- there are a lot of email chains from which people can gather your personal info. It all appears harmless however with a recent one you have probably just announched your date of birth (the first part of the years is easy achieved by knowing someones approx age). Future emails will ask you to put the name of your dog, city born etc these questions often cover security questions for logging into various sites.

If you have any concerns about an E mail particularly the "pass it on" variety then do a search in Hoaxslayer or similar website

With security in mind, my view, and it's purely personal, is not to put details of when you are going on holiday on a public forum.

The reader would have to know where you lived surely so put your dates but not your address

There is an important part in this - that is that you should be alert to people who may have your email address (and therefore probably your name) asking strange questions like the name of your first school or your mother's maiden name. If they are good at their job they can create a discussion in which giving that information seems absolutely normal. Then it's off to your hotmail account to answer your security question to get your password, then trawl through your email to find where you bank, live etc etc

Quite agree. One of the worst culprits for circulating E mail addresses are the round robin "funnies" where not only do people not edit and delete the previous E mail contacts when recirculating but resend showing all their contacts rather than sending as blind copies (bcc)

I know from personal experience with a very dishonest person I dealt with
through my business just how easy it was to find her full address with internet searches, got
a whole pile of other information about her too, which I took to my solicitor.
I learned a very valuable lesson from this.
