That's a shame Lance you could have named it Lancelot's :)
-
Sounds good for those missing Blighty. Not sure I want English beer or English pubs on a foreign holiday though - I tend to drink the beer of the county I am visiting. Having said that we did have a nice (ish) Sunday dinner in an English bar in Thailand. Made a change from all the local food we had eaten the rest of the holiday. Not sure that would apply so much to Turkey as most of the restaurants serve English style food anyway.
Good luck to them though. I hope it's a success. Sky will help with the World Cup this year.
-
usually give the "English Pubs" a miss
Ron :)
-
What English beers do they have Lance are they cans of draft.

Ouch! Not good news for me I'm afraid. I come to Turkey to get away from British type pubs. And especially ones that show sports, Sky or otherwise.

Beer and Sky Sports, it's a man thing Toky. : :): :)
-
LOL. There's nothing I enjoy more when I am thirsty than a pint of Guiness with a dash of lime!!!
:o
-
Oooh, hope this is not the start of a trend. We usually avoid anything that says 'English Pub' like the plague when we're on holiday. Why would we want to go to Turkey (or anywhere for that matter) and sit in an English pub. No thanks. :)
-
It's owned by Turks but i think they are looking more at the comforts in there nice pictures on the walls very modern toilets hair dryers etc settees and arm chairs it;s just different i think they have tried very hard to get it right ,there;s not old kettles hanging from the ceiling or horse brasses it's just a bit different ,at the moment they dont have English beer and i wont be in there when the footballs on . 8):D ;)
-
Hair dryers???
-
Hair driers - no good to me then 8)
-
It's 50 degrees, a hair dryer wouldn't be top of my list either :)
-
Am I missing something here - what excatly is making this an English bar:(
-
I dont know it's just different 'it's not like all the other places just go and see 8) ;)
-
Not for me thanks Even if Turkish are running the place I will not go to an English bar in Turkey. God keep Turkey Turkish Please x

So you never go for a curry, chinese, italian or even turkish in the UK. Keep Britain British EH!!!!! Bo***cks, variety the spice of life.
So it's ok for people to have choices anywhere in the world except Turkey, you don't have to use these places, doesn't mean everybody else is afaid of change and would like to have the choice.
If it was a typically English pub, don't you think the turks would like to experience some of our culture without having to travel to the UK. I like chinese food though I've never been to china and without allowing the chinese restaurants/takeaways in the UK how many people would have enjoyed the delights of chines food or come to that the kebab on the way home from the pub.

I think I know what Heather means with regards to going into English bars whilst on holiday. However 'God Keep Turkey Turkish Please' is a little naive as without foreign investment Turkey would struggle (as would most economies). Also we would not own homes there and not be having this discussion.
We can't have it both ways - buy houses and/or move into Turkey and expect it to stay the same.
There is room for a British style pub I think and it might have a good season what with the World Cup. However I remember The Far British Corner from a couple of years back. Didn't last that long.
It's one thing the Irish do far better than us Brits - they export their Guinness and have bars all over the world and they do very well out of it.
English Bars? :)
Scottish Bars:(
Welsh Bars:(:(
Nah!
-
The problem with British style bars (such as Far British Corner) in Turkey is they generally only have a British pub sounding name, it's still a bar selling Efes.
-
I'm still waiting for someone to explain the hair dryers.....:D

I think it's time you got REAL Stoop ;)
-
Wish i hadn't bothered now you got the Irish bar in calis that doesn't have Guinness ,and what about Marias restaurant it's all English food and thats always busy .i dont eat English food over here if i can help it unless i'm at home, most bars in calis sell cans of bitter and Guinness when they can get it and they sell out.
Forget the name it's just a nice bar it doesn't matter what it's called ,and as for the hair dryers i think they are electric hand dryers .:D 8) ;)
-
any chance of a few pics lance
cheers bud
-
Fair point lance, but we don't go to the Irish Bar, or go looking for a good old Sunday Roast at Maria's either. The food in Turkey is just one of the reasons we love it there. But, I admit, each to his own but I just don't want to see a whole crop of 'English Pubs' springing up and spoiling Calis.

If you turn the nozzle you could dry your hair! Not needed one for about the last 10 yrs personally.:D
-
PMSL at the hairdryers. Now hand dryers make much more sense. LOL
:D
-
I think Lance meant air driers. Nice idea though :)
-
Ah
Hair dryers for midgets perhaps
-
Spot on stoop they are on flex cord so you can dry what you want ;) 8)
-
Wow Lance - sounds more interesting by the post :)
Will probably give it a try when the World Cup is on in June.
-
I will get some pictures but im going to have to send them to an email address ,it takes me a week to sort the photo-bucket out so if someone sends me an email address i will forward them on and if they want to post them on the forum they can will that be okay. ;)
-
Done Lance - but no spam please ;-)
-
I dont think they do spam Stoop
-
Why not? Is it not as British bar then? LOL
