Three burglars were caught today in Ovacik. The police chased them around the area and captured them after they were spotted clearing out a house by some neighbours who reported them.
My sincere thanks to the neighbours!!

About time 8)

Great news!!!!! well done the neighbours and the police.
-
Would that be anything to do with the Jandarma dragging a man from the main road near Bim today at 1-30? Couldn't tell if they had shot him or not but there was a gun in the hand that wasn't dragging the man?
-
There were also a lot of the local men in the village chasing them as well with baseball bats snooker cues etc etc.
-
Well done,

That's the spirit!

When these burglars legged it not only the police went after them but about 30 Turkish neighbours also joined the chase. Me and my wife heard shots but we do not know if it was connected or just someone in the forest shooting boar.

The men were caught near to the mosque in Ovacik today. I have noticed the Jandarma patrolling a lot at night too.

Who cares if he was shot.
I could see him resisting arrest from here !!!: :)
-
Yippeeeee, brilliant news, hopefully we will hear the outcome of their arrest.
Also, if it makes the local papers it may put others off.

The one thing to be learnt from today is that to have success against burglars or any type of crime you must have the local Turkish people on your side. They know everyone who live in the area and can recognize any strangers or any unusual events taking place. My Turkish neighbour was so proud that these burglars were caught and that it was done by he locals. He had a big grin on his face.
being very honest if it was me walking past that house today it would probably never have registered with me that they were stealing. I would have thought that it was someone moving house.

Yes, it wont be any warning to them if they are out on the streets tomorrow. SO lets hope that the locals that were so happy today, make their feelings well and truly known IF they ARE released. Otherwise what's the point. :-\

Gerry, some good news for a change, where was the house that was robbed in relation to your villa?
-
The house was near the Yaserouglu (apologies for the poor spelling) hotel on the main road. On the hillside of the main road. These guys must have been full of confidence as it is one of the busiest areas in Ovacik. The 2 builders yards are nearby along with two big buildings being erected. It is not far from the first mosque coming up from Fethiye.
-
Thanks for the infomation Gerry, lets just hope they get all they deserve!!
-
I hope they get the Ciftlik robbers soon too !
-
lizdev, and the calis, uzumlu, deliktas, Scum. seems to be going a bit to much now, imo its getting a bit personal, especially when they leave a present(i will leave that to your imagination) on the doormat after robbing you.

grear news for sports fans evry where keep baseball / cricket bat handy, finally just released from prison the father who chased the gang that had robbed him and his family in their home at knife point, he had given chase and knocked out one of the criminals with cricket bat natural justice in action.
-
Can you tell me if this chap was Turkish, and how long was he detained?? It certainly seems we are being given conflicting advice as to how much we can defend ourselves. Presently I feel strongly that we ought to have the right to muller anyone invading our home with the intent to rob.
And by that, I do not mean 'apply yoghurt'......

Lynne, he was an asian guy from England he won his appeal, from prison, to a suspended sentence.
-
are we not getting this topic mixed up with another topic...i think the last couple of posts are to do with a case in the UK arnt they[?]...this is Ovacik Discusion Forum isnt it...with burglars caught in Ovacik.
-
Brian, i think England is still in the UK, just putting Lynne straight, wasnt i lol
-
Thanks BM06. I only asked because some people are expressing a feeling that expats would suffer the wrath of the law more than a Turk if they gave vent to their feelings (in a violent way), to a burglar.
Ah well, the UK is another story, so I wont comment on it apart from asking can't we have a whip round for a new bat?
