I don't think I could resist the chance to stay at "Hotel Cartoon".

According to its ad there is a Disney theme in its decor that children will enjoy.

Try the Pera Rose, it is a smallish boutique hotel near Istiklal, stayed there a couple of weeks ago, should have been 297euros for three nights we paid 117 for a double room, excellent buffet breafast included.

point, green park and Cartoon are in dodgy Talebasi, wouldnt want to stay there but its very convenient for Taksim.
I would go for the hilton as you get great views from there of the stadium and bosporus.

Thanks Starman. Baz, I think it has to be one from the list - but will keep your recommendation in mind if not.

Try Tashkonak.....it is in Sultanahmet but seems to fit your requirement.  I stayed there last year and I believe KKOB has as well :)

All very well but Colwyn mentioned that only the hotels listed were on offer. Also if you are coming to Istanbul and NOT going to do the tourist stuff then I would never recommend any hotel in the Sultanahmet area because it is a pain to get to anywhere else other then the tourist places.

Colwyn,
We are going to Istanbul in ealy may for 3 days. What site are you looking at for hotels. I have been reading the recommendations avidly. Starman - we want to do the tourist stuff, so with only 3 days we want to be in the heart of the tourist area and are going to have to pick & choose what we see - but we will be back!!!!
Can't wait & though I would love to do it in 5* luxury we have too much going on to justify it so good value is on the cards.

I am going to a conference so I am following the list of conference hotels. Hilary is also coming and I will be paying for her hotel costs - which makes the Hilton look a bit expensive! We have stayed in the Sultanahmet area before and done much of the essential tourist stuff except for the Topkapi (which was closed).

I have used booking.com too and found it quite good, but sometimes if you find a Hotel deal and then contact the Hotel yourself you will get a better deal.  Found this when we booked for Istanbul, it was the cheapest option to book directly with the Hotel.

In the end I booked into the Nippon. This is described as Japanese minimalist style. I'll let you know what I think after my stay.

The last time I stayed in the Istanbul Hilton I got badly bitten by bed bugs,
mind you, it was in 1967  ;)
Enjoy your trip Colwyn.

Colwyn, try and have a meal in the Orient Express Hotel which have a roof terrace and fabulous views across Istanbul.  It was my favourite place to eat.

or try Vogue in Besiktas or Sunset in Ulus. They do excellent sushi there although a beer will put you back 15 lira.
360 is another place that has maybe the best views anywhere.

Well I went to Istanbul - lots of clous and some rain whilst it was sweltering in Bristol. The Nippon was good; clean, modern, with good breakfast. Also an easy place to make connections to Ataturk Airport being only 50m from shuttle bus terminal. Scorcher, you will be pleased to know they provided me with house slippers.

Hope you went easy on the clous Colwyn.

I looked up clous and found it is French for pedestrian crossing. Indeed I was careful with these. Unfortunately I was not so careful elsewhere. I tripped over, fell awkwardly and broke a rib. Not so clever.
