Anyone managed to use Skype using a microphone/speaker on their Ipod Touch to speak from Turkey to the UK? If so, what's the quality like? Can't see a problem but want to check before investing in one.
Thanks

I had a HP ipaq which did the same thing - wifi connection = skype connection if you load the software.
Personally for the price you pay for one I would go for a wifi phone. I bought the Nokia 5800 for £190 at Tesco and I get perfect Skype on it when I get a connection - just use it like a phone. It also comes with a 8 gig memory card for all your music/pics etc. It has a standard headphone socket like the ipod and a 3.2 mp camera with flash. It also come with free voice assisted sat nav (just free from last week for the life of the phone and has most country maps) You can also download lots of apps just like the iphone.
Oh - and it's a mobile phone as well - so one less thing to carry in your handbag ;)

We did this last year as the kids both took their ipods with us on holiday. Just used Wi Fi connections in resturants or out on street if unlocked. Worked fine for us, will be using them again this year. Still use it now in the house saves being hooked up to the computer. 8)

Hi
Thanks for your replies. Am now going to find where the cheapest place is to get one from.
Stoop...it's a shame it doesn't have a mirror and lipstick holder. My handbag is weighing me down :):D

Ive been using an itouch with the Truphone app for a couple of years. Really cheap and works well with earphones and mic

The cheapest place according to the wife is the dixons group duty free shops on your way out.By a sum of ten pounds.Tillyfloss, she also uses a screen protector which appears to be a mirror until held very closely.screen protector purchased in fethiye cheaper than the uk.Hope this helps.

Good idea, will I get charged for roaming on my iPhone for skype or will itbe free if I can get a free wifi spot ?
-
No roaming charges if you have found a wifi connection.

Susuz,
Have you downloaded the free maps? Sat nav for free forever and wherever you are? Works a treat and you can buy a car kit on ebay for about a fiver. Comes with car charger and window fixings.
I also bought some protectors for the screen. 99p for 6 and they work a treat also.

I'll certainly look into the maps and check out Ebay Stoop - thanks for the tip! 8) :)
The speakers on the phone are also superior to the itouch.
You can also train the Nokia 9800 with your own handwriting, Its really easy to do and very impressive on texting - it can be great for people who don't like to use a keyboard :)

"it can be great for people who don't like to use a keyboard"

Well they are cheaper in the UK now but still from around £440 for a 16gb one as far as I know. If you buy one and select an o2 sim/deal they will unlock it for you so it will take Turkish sim cards but you must sign up for a 12 month+ O2 contract, and honour it. Alternatively, buy any iphone and have it unlocked, but if you do that you will not be able to update it without it locking again.

ok, many thanks i dont know what to do now, ill pop in and see in about 12 hours then we can have a chat x

Dont even think about buying in Turkey. They are twice the price and the latest gen models are very hard to find.
