Title: What a day
Post by: Liz 101 on January 27, 2010, 23:30:58 PM
I recently went to Tuesday market to get a couple of things for friends back in the UK. Having walked around the top end of the market, not quite finding what they wanted, I was about to cross over to the other part when it started to rain quite heavily. I therefore decided that it was probably a good idea to go for the mandatory chicken in bread at Recep's. I spent the next half hour or so munching my lunch & watching everyone scurrying out of the rain. Suddenly, I found that I was literally soaked to the skin & everyone around me was laughing very loudly!  :o It took a while, but I eventually worked out that I'd been sitting directly below where two pieces of canvas awning met & the rain had been collecting until the join had given up the ghost under the weight.

I was wringing water out of my fleece when Recep's wife came over with a towel & her own coat & indicated that I should take her coat & return it the following Tuesday, meantime, she'd take mine. It was a lovely offer, but frankly it was easier to keep mine & dry it off at home.

That evening, back at the ranch,I had a half cooked meal in the oven when the electricity went off, as there was thunder & lightening around, I assumed that it was just another power cut. After preparing & eating, by torchlight, a replacement scatch meal using the hob, I looked out of the window & noticed that all the other houses around had lights on.  :-\ Yep, the oven, together with the other appliances I had switched on at the time had overloaded the circuit & tripped the mains switch.

All in all, not the best day I've ever had in Turkey!

Made me chuckle, great how something of a mini disaster can sound less traumatic in Turkey than the same thing back here in the UK.

I am sure you will get your reward in heaven!
