Has anyone got experience of this? We were considering this as an option rather than buying a car. The Residency rules puts us slightly off buying a car to be honest. It would be for a period of about 4 months at the moment. Any views on the pros and cons much appreciated.

Friends of ours rent long term from Cem at Cafe Pazar, they have no problems with renting.

Thanks Andy Lin. Is the Cafe Pazar in Calis and do you happen to know if there is a website?

Cant understand why Residency puts you off, you don't need it to buy a car [?]

FT - is that definately correct - were the computer problems (if that was the reason) resolved so that people could register their newly purchased vehicles without residency in the last week?

That's why we were put off a bit. It all seems so complicated and expensive to need to acquire residency that we wondered if long term renting would be the best option

Apologies you are quite right Ian the law has changed yet again and now you need a foreigner ID number which you get if you have or have had residency, cant keep up with all these changes to the law glad I bought my scooter in 2008. :D

Yep - although - there is still confusion as to whether or not it was the law that was changed or was it a new computer programme implemented that forced officals to enforce the law - when their usual practice has been to ignore this particular law in Fethiye ;)
The last I heard they were asking for the software to be changed so they could then continue to ignore the law and let the local economy flourish!
Good for them - must be a commercially minded trader friendly council !!!
Clear as Mud :D

Sounds about right for Turkiye :) ;)
