We are going to a wedding in June in Istanbul. The bride was our au-pair thirteen years ago and she became, and has remained, a part of family ever since. She was the person who first introduced us to Turkey for holidays, and we've never stop coming since:D
So what is the norm for wedding gifts, particularly for someone who is important to you and the whole family? Not sure how much difference this will make, but the wedding is likely to be more secular than religous, if you see what I mean. Gold as a gift has been mentioned, but to be honest we haven't a clue what is 'expected' or what is normal wedding etiquette in these matters,
So any help, top tips or pointers about gifts in particular, but anything else to do with weddings that you can give to myself and Mrs Usedbustickets would be appreciated.

Hi Pete, you never struck me as posh enough to have had an au pair :D
Anyway, money pinned to the dress (no coins) seems to be the general opinion, you can see a similar topic here: {A Link to an old CBF topic was here - no longer available}33152

Money is the accepted norm.

Gold shops sell special gold "coins in various denominations" with attached red ribbon for pinning on.

we were at a wedding in October, the bride and groom wear a sash and everyone goes up and pins money on them. Don't be embarassed about it - it is quite normal. the next question is how much money - whatever you can afford.

Thanks for all the useful feedback, I now understand what is expected. Only one final question do the bride and groom provide the pins, or do I take my own? ;)

pins are provided

i remember the pinning money on the dress thing from a wedding I saw at the Letoon hotel once. I thought of my mate back in UK, he's been married 4 times now, he'd be worth a fortune !

Give her an iron to remind her of the the good times she spent with you.[:o)]:D
