Title: Deliktas news update
Post by: valleyboy on February 07, 2010, 17:41:10 PM
Hi all, would it be too much trouble to ask you "full time residents" for any news updates from Deliktas, as we "part timers" feed off any snippets we get from you (however trivial), it all keeps us going until we come out next.

Anything really, has the crime wave subsided ?, how's the new local shop doing ?,any further development on Symbola ?, price increases, any weather damage ?, anything really as I say no matter how trivial, all appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation, Tony & Kay

Hmm, updates? WE BEAT YOU AT RUGBY!!!!!!! Does that count??!!

Weather - started raining about noon yesterday, has not yet stopped. D block coming along - did you get the pictures I sent? General prices staring to leap up, but good sales in the clothes shops. Little shop still doing okay and now has his shop sign up so looking more professional and permanant. Will go this week and see what is the latest on his tobacco / alcohol licences. New people in B block (hardly see them), one more apartment in C block sold, no one new in A block! Crime - have not heard anything for a while, probably too cold and wet for the burglars to venture out. Seckin - still fab, treated myself to pide there last week - lush. Pool - stil dirty and yuk, waiting for the summer to be cleaned etc. Was woken at 3.30am by howling winds, rain, thunder and lightning - still going on! Rose is about to lose a tooth.
Can't think of much else right now, except you may want to get the apartment checked. I have 2 problems in the kitchen and sitting room from the continual rain. Catch 22 - Manzara can't do anything until the rain stops for a period of time, but until they can do something it is getting worse.
Will try and keep you updated more frequently.
Oh, and we beat you at rugby!!!!!! (had to rub that in again)

Hi Joanna,
Great to hear from you, Kay just told me you've also Emailed. Hope you are well and coping with your first winter in Turkey, a bit colder and more wet than Oman !!.
Thanks for the updates, much appreciated, hope Manzara sort your water problems out soon, where did you post photos of D block ?.
Thanks for reminding us of the rugby, I think we're getting over it Alyn - Wyn Jones is hanging from the first tree as you come over the bridge, and your ground has been re-named "Trippenham" !!, us bitter no never.

Take care and keep dry

Hello,
I sentthem by email but using my gmail account. If you did not see them i can send again.

Rain - have never seen so much in my life!
Title: Deliktas news update
Post by: joannasal on February 10, 2010, 10:48:46 AM
Manzara came over yesterday and (hopefully) sorted out my apartment and a couple of others with the same problem. We now have to wait until the next rain to see if all is fixed! When we know and all has dried out they will come back and re paint for me. They have been really good about this problem, explaining what they would do etc and why they could not paint yet - very happy with them.

Was at the little shop today - some other local people were just coming in as i left. Prices are still good as is stock. Did not see any sign of cigarettes or alcohol, but will ask next time i am there. He has Nestle chocolate spread (okay, a luxury, but sometimes you need a treat) which made me very happy as it is nut free!!!! (unlike so many others).
The 'new' gardener / handy man is lovely, sorry but I cannot pronounce his name so will write it down next time. He is kind, friendly and very helpful.

We had a herd of 100+ goats here yesterday which was lovely, they have not been around for a while. Me and Valleyboys' neighbours were real saddos watching them from our balconies - so cute and much healthier looking than the Omani goats.

Best news of all - So far no rain today!!

Glad to hear Manzara are performing well for you Joanna, they were really good when we had the internal problem, they just need a little "push" now and again, but that's quite normal I think.

The little shop sounds really good, saves us "carless" people walking down to the other two further down, or to our favourite "cow shop" in Tasyaka ! for odds & ends.

We love the goats too, you're right it's a charming sight, with the price increases I'm surprised not more are getting hijacked, or "goatjacked".

Glad to hear it's stopped raining for you.

Deliktas is in fethiye, with the otogar on your right hand side, turn left at the traffic lights, just before the shop with the life size cow outside turn right, you are now enterering the Deliktas area.  Not good at directions but it gives you the general idea.

The full size cow outside the shop is a great landmark (good shop also)  !, the other way up the valley is opposite the jail.

Deliktas isn't the most lively of areas. They got a new taxi rank a couple of years back and the celebrations on here went on for weeks.

Dont listen to him as he's freezing his *****'s off now in Scotland (although I guess the taxi rank story was pretty sad). Maria - directions were spot on.  I'm also freezing here in the UK at the moment but cant wait to get out again in May.

Deliktas is a lovely place to live. Great neighbours, incredible views and away from the bar hopping tourists (or otherwise!) of Calis, Hisaronu or Ovacik. I originally thought of living in Karagozler but I am SOOOOO pleased I chose here instead. Yes Deliktas is cold but not hugely cold - and that from someone who lived in the scorching Middle Eastern heat for years. I have not used the heating nearly as much as i thought i would.

Still no rain but howling winds instead - got woken up at 2.30 am by the wind and can't get back to sleep!

Deliktas is for us you can walk into Fethiye harbour/market/bars, but also live with the Turkish people who will go out of their way to make you welcome and show you what Turkish hospitality is!!

Well, no news to report. All is well and happy in Deliktas.

D block is progressing at an alarming rate, although I am getting a bit fed up with the constant banging from 7.30am to about 5.30 / 6.00pm, 7 days a week!! Shop is doing okay although no sign of alcohol or tobacco products as yet. Weather is definitely getting better. Hopefully my leak problems will finally be resolved today.
Otherwise all bumbling along nicely!

This areas easy to find just look for Lego Land what theyve built into the mountain, its visible for miles best eyesore for miles.

Post by: valleyboy on February 25, 2010, 12:04:07 PM
You are quite right, what's going on there ?, fortunately the Deliktas version of Penrhys is hidden from our view but I can't help wondering every time I pass it walking down the hill, will they ever be sold ?, they'll probably use it for community housing like the pink ones to the left.

I'd be interested to know if anyone can shed any light on this development ?, history, motive for build, anyone moved in yet ?.

Looked at updated google earth map and you can see what an eyesore they really are !

Title: Deliktas news update
Post by: Gorgeous_bird on February 25, 2010, 12:36:32 PM
Question is are you refering to Deliktas as a whole or the white places on the hill? I wouldn't call them an eyesore. Lots of them have been sold but I think there were some issues with the parent company and I think there was talk of bankruptcy. They certainly have had to drop the prices quite a bit from when they initially went on sale - I am not sure that they will be used for community houses there are still plenty of the pink ones left.
Title: Deliktas news update
Post by: valleyboy on February 25, 2010, 16:27:39 PM
Yes, I'm really talking about the complex on the hill, not Deliktas in general (which we love dearly !), and perhaps eyesore is a bit strong but it just seems to be such a very large development on that particular hillside !!, that said they are also building quite a few apartments which are being carved out of the hillside in Tasyaka.

The 'pink' ones are Belediye houses, the other development is called Hillview. I have heard many stories concerning the building of them but I don't know how true they are. Interestingly enough although some of us know them they are not well known and no good as a guide for how to get to Deliktas - even delivery drivers have no idea where or what Hillview is.
Last night coming home about 8pm i looked over and saw lights on in one of the very top back houses. I don't know if it has been sold and is occupied or if it is occupied illegally or if the lights just 'happened' to be on! Will ask around and see if I come up with any info.
Having said that the weather had turned nice I was repaid by 2 horrible wet, windy and cold days! Rose was fascinated by the hail stones!

Post by: valleyboy on February 26, 2010, 11:22:09 AM
Must be very lonely for them if someone is living there !

Is the feature to the right of the development a) a very small funicular or b) a very big Stenna stairlift ?
Title: Deliktas news update
Post by: HappyMonday on February 26, 2010, 13:36:47 PM
Its a glass lift/ funicular.  Never seen it working wouldnt like to be inside it if it ever broke down in the Summer.

The littel shop said they will have alcohol and tobacco by next week. There is a new patisserie on the Oludeniz road - go to cow and go right, just up there. Called Oz Izmir - have had a coffee there and very nice. Always busy, have been told the cakes etc are good. Pool is in a horrid state at the moment. We are smothered in a yellow pollen all over the place - getting everywhere, even with all the windows closed!
Valleyboy - you had a painter (or some kind of work man) n on Weds or Thurs. But the upstairs A/C has been left on! You may want to ask someone from Mahzara to go in and switch it off! Just had an electric bill (a tiny bit of paper sticking out of the electric box) - for me for 1 month: 10.500 TL! That kind of price I can happily live with!
If anyone would like me get any provisions ready for when you arrive just let me know - I think you all have my email! Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Yes, I was brought up in Letham (Gotham City as it is now known) I'll speak about that later.
More to the point, I understand that the pool will not be filled until the 1st May which is very disappointing. Margos son contacted A2Z on Friday and was told this. There will be quite a few of us over during April and I think that we would all like to see the pool filled. Does anyone have direct contact with A2Z to discuss this??

I've got an Email address for them, I was going to contact Mustafa to organise our maintenance payment and I'll mention it then, I also think Joanna sees him around now and again, if we hit them from a few angles they may fill it earlier, at least it'll look better as I think it'll be still too cold to use !.

Mustafa has just left me. He said that he is going to try and get the pool ready for 16 / 17 April (Insha'Allah). Some of the outside tiles around the pool need replacing so if Manzara do this before these dates all will be okay, if this is not done before, it will delay Mustafa.
He also said 'hello' to everyone.

I have not sent anyone up to date pictures of D Block as most of you are here soon and can see it for yourselves! I will say, however, that it is not quite as low as we were told. My view is still clear, but some views aren't :(.

Just back from shopping and news to tell you!!

Our little shop now has:
Yufka, fancy dorritos, kunefe, cigarettes, Raki, Chivas Regal, lots of whiskey (can't remember all the names, sorry), vodka, wine, Tuborg, Efes, Carlsberg, Skol and more to come apparently. Other new items but did not write it all down! I arrived at the same time as the bread van so now have lovely hot fresh bread for lunch.

Hi Joanna,

Cannot believe the plumbing problems with this development !, we've had our fair share, isn't Baki around ? also is Elliot still involved ?, he seems to kick a little backside !, you could also try going to the office up the road and speak to Ramazan or Mohammed.

The shop sounds as if it is "evolving" into a proper little emporium of convenience supplies, does the bread van come around every day ?, I haven't seen that before.

Only three weeks 'till we arrive for our first visit this year, we are getting quite excited now, I think Kay has got most of the stuff you asked us to get, if there is anything else you need let us know and we'll get it before we come out.

Thanks for the updates you are our Symbola/Deliktas correspondent !!, see you soon.

The bread van delivers to the shop twice a day!

I don't see Elliott here much - maybe he is looking after another cpmplex now? Baki, hmm - I am sure he means well, but I do feel that priority is given to the non permanant residents, maybe because I am always here the priority does not seem so urgent. My kitchen ceiling is now a lovely mix of white paint (except what flakes off and falls on me when I am cooking!), mould patches, two rather large damp patches of varying colours and a nice brown / grey hole!! Frustrating, but it will get sorted eventually - I hope.
Can't think of anything else i need / would like, but thanks so much.

With the pool A2Z cannot clean and fill it until Manzara replace the tiles. They have asked and a few days ago some men were wandering around looking at it! Nothing happened as yet. I am well happy with A2Z - especially our new maintenance man, Zihni, who looks after the gardens etc. He is friendly and SO helpful.
At the moment the pool does still look rather yukky, just a warning!

Tim you misunderstand -Joannasal is unable to post any more information on the forum due to "certain reasons" - she was quoting someone else who had asked for snippets.

Sorry, when I originally posted this thread the intention was to get any feedback and news trivia from Deliktas in general with input from all  residents in the area, the fact that most of the response came from owners and people interested in the Symbola complex was unintentional.

I realise that after a while it did get a little "Symbolafied", and Gorgeous_bird, you are probably quite right suggesting this;

It was something I did think about doing, but it wasn't the original idea. I did want to endeavour to get an overall view of events in GV and , hopefully, have an opportunity to  establish new "friendships" in the area (even in a virtual dimension).

I'm really sorry if this as caused anybody problems, I can assure you that wasn't the way it was supposed to be.

Apologies Tony.

We live in Forest Hills and know a few people in the Deliktas area. Cant wait to come out this year. Planning our visits for May, July/August and October and despite Onur air mucking us about with flight times we cant wait.  When we bought our place 5 years ago it was very much a building site in the valley with dirt roads and mess everywhere! Now it is much better and we love coming out on our visits.  People like Amanda, Gorgeous Bird, Valley Boy and others - always great to hear from you on how things are progressing. We are also looking forward to meeting Terry and Sue (this year finally?) and hope the motorbike is OK.  Our friends Pam and John live full time in Forest Hills and we get news from them as well so if anyone needs to know anything specific we might be able to help.  Hopefully we will meet more of you this year.

I think I have been misunderstood -I also relish news of GV as I have a property there. I am trying to assist in helping the Symbola news in flowing, Joanna says she can't updte for a reason and if that reason is that people are reading it and possibly reading stuff about problems with the build then if this was discussed in a "closed forum" it would help all those at Symbola.....just a hunch but I wonder wether manzara are reading what she is posting and have asked her not to in which case a closed forum may help. Other than that I can confirm that having the GV section establishes new friendships I have had many people walk past my place and shout up -"Are you Gorgeous_bird"!!! and so starts a new friendship.
