They get snow in the London area before Christmas, and it's the first item on the news we have photographs and interviews and full coverage for around 20 minutes. We have terrible snow in Scotland, that disrupts traffic, trains and cuts of villages and electricity supplies and when the news comes on we wait 15 minutes and get a 2 minute report. Of course, London is the centre of the world as far as the BBC is concerned.[:(!]

It is ridiculous I agree Jacqui, and especially seen as I live in Essex and travel to London everyday for work, when we had the snow, my trains were cancelled for 3 out of the 5 days and I could not get into work through driving because of the roads, it was pathetic. We dont seem to be able to handle the snow down here, people say its because we dont get it often and the councils are not prepared, but for the past couple of years now we have had a decent amount of snow throughout the year where you would think the councils would get their butts in gear for the next year. Its so frustrating. Pefect example for you, it was 21st Dec last year, mine and the fellas anniversary, I was going to his, I left the City at 6pm (we were 'evacuated' because it started to snow heavy, silly i know, So i left at 6pm, I got to his house at 8pm, a 1 hour journey took me 2 hours, not so bad. He left work at 4pm and got home to his house at 8.30pm!!! and he works in our town and his 'journey' is 15 minutes! our town ground to a halt it was pathetic. so we ended up not going our for our anniversary, and his dad who was also stuck in the traffic, was nearer to my fellas house than his own, abandoned his car and came round for dinner, a lovely cosy night for 3! As you can imagine I had a lovely evening! much! So all in all your right Jacqui down here majority of the time when it snows we just cant cope! and it is so frustrating!

We have no snow in Perth today. 12 miles down the road in Auchterarder they are unable to get out of the village and they have no power.
It is quite odd the way it landed down here.

Having just returned from a weeks skiing in France -I can tell you that we would need considerable investment to be able to function as they do out there. The invstment in diggers, snow ploughs and other snow clearing equipment would be enormous to be able to keep the roads open. On the journey back snow ploughs were on standby in lay bys on motorways as the forecast was heavy snow. Of course for them it is a necessity as they are in the snow business but I think there may be an outcry if the UK invested heavily in the type of equipment needed and then it sat for 10 years used once or twice a year (maybe), I can hear the outcry now.
I certainly wouln't say that it was the case that the snow fall in Scotland was largely unreported, I have been at home this week and I have certainly watched reports, listened to interviews etc regarding the snow on the BBC. Last night my husband (who loves driving in snow) was thinking of reporting for duty to help hand out warm drinks to stranded drivers in Perthshire. I had to remind him we live near Birmingham. Not five minutes ago BBC Five live did a report on the snow fall the issues with power etc etc etc.

c1. I think this has nothing to do with the numbers of people living in certain
areas human suffering is not counted by numbers but by individuals.
Gorgeous Bird.. News of London snow before Christmas, Headlines on the news first and at least
20 minutes coverage, till we in Scotland were sick to death of hearing about it.
New of Scotland's bad weather today. Firstly, BBC 1
at lunchtime 15 minutes into News we heard about Scotland for 2
minutes. Tonight the ITN news which starts at 6.30pm at
6.48.pm New of Scotland's weather until 6.50pm!!!!

Yes people are hardy up here. I was watching the Scottish News at lunchtime
Auchterarder has had 2 foot of snow. They are cut off and supplies of essential foods
are running out. One man interviewed had walked for 3 miles to get supplies
for him and his neighbours. They along with 45,000 people in Scotland
had no power, some have been without it for 3 days.
They spoke to an old man who said he could not remember the weather
being as bad as this, but " you just have to get on with it" and he walked off
through the snow using a walking stick.

break away Scotland would be great for English and Welsh and Northern Irish as per capita scots get over £1000 a year more of tax payers money than the rest of us and yes king alec can have the oil if he pays for it although the Islanders may preffer to ceed to Norway which has the best standerd of living in Europe, and take on debt of Scottish Banks, have their own postal service and currentcy etc. I think when they see the bill, the dribble of oil left won't make much differnce. you don't see English people wearing Tee shirts saying "any team but Scotlan" do you

Twelve miles up the road and we had very little snow.
