On Sunday Evening around 10pm Karen was just a few hundred meteres from our house where a blue car pulled along side of her and one of the occupants dragged her into the car, she can remember being forced to drink some sort of liquid which virtually instantly virtually knocked her out, luckily she managed to still fend off her attackers and they dumped her at the side of the road about half a mile away, she was kicked in in the head and around her body and left at the side of the road bleeding profusley.
I understand that she managed to crawl toanearby street light where she was found by the security personel of a nearby complex.
Subesequently she was taken to the state hospital where she was scanned for a fractured skull and also given five stiches to the side of her head and kept in the hospital until monday evening.
Although no sexual assault took place the police suspect that it and robbery was the motive.
The shopped will be manned part time by me for a couple of days until she is fully fit to return. Should any urgent orders be needed just ring Karen,s mobile.
Our thanaks to the Devlet Hastane (state hospital) for the care & treatment received and also to the police for their sympathy and promise of future investigations, a description of the vehicle & occupants were given
So please be careful when out & about alone no matter how safe you may feel and how near to your home you maybe.

Sorry to hear about Karen Chris but four years ago something similar happened to me and Shirley.
We had been to the quiz night at the Ernur Hotel and I had one vodka. As we left, we had a quick word with Mustafa Bey, chief of police at gunlukbasi, not sure about the spelling, and decided to walk up the road to Calis. We neared the Onder Bar and two men chased another down the street causing Shirley to be a bit scared and so she suggested that we nip into the bar for a quick drink.
Suddenly, after being served, we were told that we had to drink up as they were going to close and Shirley went to the toilet, me, I went to wait for her by the door. The next thing that I was aware of was that I was leant against a wall, somewhere out on the saklikent road and when I tried to move, I finished up plunging down a ditch which was about three foot deep.
Bloodied and scruffy, I was rescued by a woman who called the police and they got me back to Calis in the early hours of the morning.
When Shirley came from the toilet she asked where I was and I guy said He has gone home, jump on the back of my bike and we will catch him up. Shirley like a fool, did so and the guy set off down the Migro's road. As he passed our house, which is just before Gempa, she yelled for him to stop but he had other ideas and he drove her to the kanal where he threw her in the reads and tried to rape her. Luckily shed screamed and fought and set some dogs barking and finally, the guy took off.
The following day, through a girl at Cem optics, I needed to get new specs because my others were nowhere to be found, we finished up in the police station on the harbour. Nobody really believed us until they found out and phoned mustafa Bey and he confirmed that we were stone cold sober when we were speaking to him. The worse part is that when people asked us what had happened, due to me having plasters on my head, and we told them, people thought we were making the story up. Shirley wanted to get rid of Calis but I managed to talk her in to coming to terms with what happened and moving on. It is worth noting that Shirley, four years ago was 67 years old. Barrie and Shirley.

Many thanks for all your good wishes, Karen is recovering rom her ordeal although stil suffering from her injuries she insisted that she go to her shop this morning to clear some urgent orders, she will be at her shop again tomorrow for a few hours.
Gradually things about the incident are being remembered and these have been reported to the Polis.
We live near to Gunlukbasi on a wide & well lit street, the incident occurred about 100 meteres from our gate which is near to the 'Brick road from Calis to Gunlukbasi)She was found at the rear of Lissa Links ( behind Calis Genpa) by their security personell which is if you know the area only about 3/4 mile from our house.
It was a blue coloured car possibly a Tofas, contained two males who appeared to be in their late twenties, the car smelled strongly of perfume, not aftershave nor air freshner.
At the moment this is all that Karen can remember and I will put on more information if & when she can remember more.
Once again, Karen & I thankyou all for all your good wishes, and ask you to please take care if you are walking home alone especially if you are female
-
Karen, we are shocked & horrified about the attack on you and send our best wishes for a speedy recovery. Well done for reporting this incident.

-
What an awful experience - hope you are able to move on and recover from the ordeal quickly. You sound as though you have been very brave - thank you for sharing with the forum to warn others
-
Karen - how awful - what a terrible thing to happen - I hope the Police catch them quickly - can't believe such a terrible thing can happen in Calis. Hope you are feeling better soon.
-
Maybe with the power of the forum we can help to catch these people and look out for each other and be extra vigilant this season, this cannot keep happening to innocent people, I for one have been terrified by what has happened to Karen and am already not putting my plans into action for this summer, to have six weeks in Calis as some of it will mean being on my own out of those six weeks. I do not want to go to my home in the sun and live like a recluse for three of those six weeks as I am too terrified to set foot out of my house I may as well stay in England for those three weeks.
I am a little disappointed to say the least that the agent that sold me my house told me there is no crime in Calis maybe this was the case four years ago but definetely not true nowadays.
get well soon Karen.
-
Could'nt agree more with KARENINA, I was the same last year especially of a night in the apartment, and I was'nt alone. and its obvious they dont discriminate, if they can do that to a lady of 67yrs of age, where do they draw the line, ..........they dont.
-
Distressed, and disgusted to read this. I can only extend my best wishes to your wife, and hope that she survives this traumatic experience, without too many ill effects.
-
Although we have never met Karen i feel as though i know you by reading so much about you...
You are one brave lady...
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, and hope these Bas....ds :o :o are caught very soon, these sort are the scum off the earth and not wanted in this world....

Karen I am SO sorry to hear about your ordeal. I know you must feel 'why me ?' Especially as you live here and have a business here , speak the language BUT its common sense NOT to be out, well lit road or not ,after dark on your own EVER. We sadly had all this last year with the unfortunate ladies who suffered a similar experience . Girls dont do it. PLEASE take a taxi.Karennina take heed please come out BUT take a cab.
-
I am sorry but I feel angry to read that it is "Common sense not to be out after dark on your own, ever"
-
I think its a little naive to believe that there is NO crime in Calis, at the end of the day of course there is crime, its everywhere if you like it or not...it happens...it just happens less in some places than other, similarly it is highlighted more in some places than others.
I agree with Lynne, and you just have to be careful thats all and be mindful that ideally its best to be with people if walking home, if not then yes a taxi is probably a good idea...these incidents don;t appear to be a regular occurence...thats not to take the severity off what happened to Karen at all as its bad, but because she has highlighted this horrible incident...be aware...but don't blow it out of all proportion.

Funny how I agree with that too Rindaloo.
I mean, I have to walk home from dancing in the dark and on my own. Anything could happen in that 10 minute journey but I don't let it stop me, just as Karen hasn't. Sadly what has happened is absolutely awful and I hope those responsible are caught and sorted out soon. They don't deserve to walk the earth.
-
I also agree with Rindi,
-
Don't know exactly how to word this so please be patient. I live on a lovely private estate outside Liverpool in a tiny rural place called Tarbock. It is on the outskirts of Huyton where as anyone who knows has its problems.
In the last X amount of years we have had some horrific murders take place just within a mile of where we live!
Amazingly everone feels safe here - even my 84 year old mum who lives around the corner, she walks her dog 3 times a day but obviously will not go out after dark.
I personally feel quite safe coming home from the local pub on my own if for whatever reason Hubby isn't with me, it is about 750
yards from where we live but as we all know 50 yards can make or break a situation.
We must all be aware of what is around us at all times.
Put it into perspective - I know Calis and surrounding areas have had various problems over the last few years culminating in this horrendous crime but PLEASE don't let them win!
If in our area we can feel safe (and it has nothing to do with extra policing, security or whatever) it is the Community at large that keeps everyone going. We don't bury our heads in the sand anymore!
PLEASE take a leaf out of Karens book and don't let the B*****ds win!
It has been proved here in our community so come on lets have some fighting spirit!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don't post a comment that you wouldn't want to live here because of what has happened because as is posted on many occasions please don't jump to conclusions!!
-
I think that's an excellent post.
-
Get well soon Karen

I am not being naive June I am speaking from having had a bad experience before in Calis, I am not going to dredge it all up again some members know of it some do not, hence why I am no longer naive and am on my guard whilst in Calis.
-
I think where ever you are these days you have to be on your guard. Even in Thailand, which I found one of the least threatening countries (along with Singapore)I have been to I would not be comfortable with my wife, Maggie, going out on her own after dark.
Sign of the times unfortunately.
-
If I was on holiday or in a place which I didn't know I would probably be very wary about venturing out after dark but unfortunately some people have to. Women who do not have partners or friends to go on holiday with for whatever the reason have no choice but to go out on their own, most of them do not come to any harm and unfortunately those who do have obviously taken risks. People who live on their own have no choice either.
Why should we give in to the S***bags and make prisoners of ourselves.
What type of a society would we have if nobody went out at night, we all stayed in, no social life, no evening drinks with friends for a chat!
Nobody is going to stop me from walking home from the local on my own or making me a prisoner.
If we all stayed in the S***bags would only break in and maybe worse things could happen when we tried to protect our property
:o :o :o :o

OMG, is your local the Brickwall Inn, used to live there. I went to Huyton Heigh School. Lynn
-
Lynn - You have mail!
-
Karennina,
Look I did not intentionally mean to upset you, the point I was trying to make is the ridiculous statement an estate agent made to you in that there in 'No Crime' in Calis...there is crime everywhere if you believe it or not.
Its a shame that you have have had a bad experience previously and I am sorry about that Karennina but you have to move on as in the main Calis is a brilliant place, we bought our place there 8 years ago and have had fantastic times there...its is a fantastic place.
All I am saying is try to go there and have a great time, but be careful......don't dwell on things .....just be mindlful when you are going home thats all, but don't let the minority spoil it for you.
Take care.
June x

That is ok June, I just felt so sorry for Karen when I read what had happened to her, and could not help think to myself it is not even the season yet and here we go again, a repeat of last summer when all the things were happening to women.
Thank you for posting though June, I for one will be on my guard this season if I am on my own at all.
-
My posts exactly June !!
-
Firstly, my many thanks to all of you who posted on this subject, your greetings and support really mean a lot and I am rather overwhelmed by it all.
This morning the stitches were removed and I am feeling a lot better in fact, back at my shop full time.
Regarding the many comments about where and when is not safe, they are all relavent, the idea of my post was a suggestion for all, especially women 'To Be Careful'
I understand that in this day and age that no one can be really safe in any town anywhere, living here, and having a business in the Calis area for quite along time now has maybe made some of us a little blase' about the relaxed way of life we lead, I have not been back to Britain or elswhere for that matter for over 4 years and that was just for a weekend, so cannot comment on whether a place can be considered safe or not.
For those of you that have had unfortunate experiences here in Turkey, I really do feel for you from what is now first hand experience, especially since the incident to me, happened only a few meters from my home.
Please do not feel that all is bad here, it is probably a lot better than other places, the Polis who were very good have said that extra patrols will be out & about, this I understand has already happened.
Meanwhile, thankyou all for your good wishes and support, I for one shall not let the illegitimate sons of female dogs get me down, I shall continue to walk to my shop everyday although maybe a little less complacent than before.
As the title of my husbands post about the incident says.
'Please Be Careful At All Times'
-
Well said Karen!!
Glad you are feeling better!!
:) 8) :)
-
Tke care karen, get yourself a mace spray.xx
-
Yes so glad you are feeling better Karen.
Take care
-
So glad to hear you are feeling better Karen, also can I just say a big thankyou for actually reporting the incident to the Polis so that they are more able to assist by having extra patrols out to stop a repeat or even catch the vile people, the amount of posts I have read on here where similar things have happened but the persons involved just never report it, in doing that you are helping everyone.
Get better soon Karen
