Title: Motorbike Insurance Cover for Theft?
Post by: Ian on March 06, 2010, 12:15:09 PM
I have now established beyond doubt I have to get a residence permit to buy our scooter - which I will now do!

I know as part of the purchase price I pay for third party cover but I suspect this does not cover me for theft?

Do I take out a separate policy with Baris (they do our apartment / DASK) and if so what should I expect to pay?

(our 6-month medical policy will cover us for personal injury on a bike up to 125cc so I think I only need theft cover???)

Many thanks  - Ian

Terrie / Kevin - many thanks for your replies.

As we will have medical cover I think I only want theft insurance but not sure if they do a standard comprehensive policy for a scooter?

Just thought - if I buy a 100cc (which is actually 98.3cc) then no tax is due at all and as it is new it won't need an MOT for 3 years - is that right?

But how do I renew the mandatory insurance or can I do that with my insurance broker or do I have to go to the tax office?

I am trying to minimise my contact with officialdom!

Compulsory traffic insurance is available from a broker/insurance company,no tax upto 99cc,mot after 3 years & then every 2 years.must have helmet with visor or goggles for mot.

Kevin - many thanks

I will sort it out with Baris Insurance then - that is far better than going to the Tax Office  :)
