My 11 month old H.P.lap top had 1 year of Norton on it ,that is now running out what is the best free one i can download or is it best to get Norton again cheers. ;)

Will i have to get another security programme ,i seem to have another one on  my lap top it keeps saying it wants to check for viruses its
Mcfee is that the same as Norton thanks Egg Heads no pun there Keith ha ha :D:D ;)

Whats going on here doing my head in tried to load http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/the other day it came back it couldnt load to my p.c. ,i have just noticed that it has loaded on now ,also why is it i have to keep signing on i dont sign off i go to mail box come back and have to sign in again is it something to do with Vista .[^] ;)

Without a doubt Eset Nod32 is the best (very effective and lightweight to run)
AVG is an excellent free tool.

I wouldn't burden my system with Norton or McAffee even if they were free!!

BEFORE you load a new anti-virus software DELETE the old one.  Otherwise there will be conflict and you could get all manner of odd things happening.  

For something free, use AVG, as recommended elsewhere.  Don't use Norton, it's clunky and slow.  After many years I find PCtools the best.  There is a free version of that but the professional version isn't too expensive,  It's much faster than Norton when doing the daily scan.

What do you mean you don't scan every day!

Think of changing to windows 7
