Ok running the risk of being shot down and told to do a search  ;)

But here goes..

Which are your favourite "authentic" Turkish restaurants in Calis / Fethiye?
Some examples of what they do would also be very much appreciated?  8)

Sardunya opposite Scarletts. Very simple home made food (and some of the wine).

Ocakbasi - looks great in the photo we are gonna try tomorrow night.

Rob - The Mozaik Bahçe specialises in dishes from Hatay in eastern Turkey - the ancient name for Hatay is Antioch as in the Bible!

Main influences
- the French who were there for 20 years after 1st WW
- Arabic, being on the border of Syria lots of dishes in this region are quite spicy
- Armenian (the only Armenian village in Turkey is in Hatay)
- and from Ottoman times too...

take a trip out to Kaya Rob, plenty of traditional to chose from out there, and in the most incredible surroundings.

For cheap traditional food all freshly cooked every day you can't beat SAHIL 2 on the Migros road.
There is always a great choice of soups, fresh casserole type dishes, some vegetarian and kebabs/cutlets/meatballs.
Also lovely puddings.
They also do the usual turkish pizza(pide) and a cracking doner kebab.
well worth a visit.

For traditional it is also a good experience to visit a lokanta where all the food is on show in glass cabinets and you can point at various dishes and try one or more. For an easy to find and great quality one to start with, try the Megri Lokantasi, just round the corner from the main street in Fethiye where Finans & Garanti banks are. If natural yoghurt is ok with you (it wasn't with me prior to living in Turkey), forget pointing through the glass, ask for Iskender kebap - it's a lamb dish served on bread with yoghurt and tomato - as I am writing this I am aware it sounds horrible :D it isn't at all - and theirs is lovely.

If you can't find it, ask anyone for the Duck Pond, which is next to the Megri. The Duck Pond is notable for it's duck pond and sadly unimaginative and bland menu.

And if you aren't confused enough already, make sure you find the Megri Lokantasi, there is a Megri restaurant too -and good though that is, it's not the one you are looking for :D

Megri was the name of Fethiye before it became Fethiye.

I understand everyone, I just choose to pretend I don't when I see a gag opportunity :D

Definitely if you are staying in Calis you should try Sardunya - some lovely meals and as authentic a set of mezes as you will find in Calis I think. Most remarkable is the liver and onions, which is fabulous but comes in shocking style and presentation - what with it being served as liver, and onions. Nothing else on the plate, the onions are sliced and raw - but all in all superb  :)

Spirit measures are lethal, you have been warned  ;)

Liver and onions!  Now you're talking Scunner.

It's a wonder I don't have iron overdose when I get back home the number of times I have that in a restaurant there.  I have had the most delicious liver and onions in Calis but don't think I've ever tried Sardunya.

One for the list of things to do in May!  :D

Ocakbasi - went tonight - absolutely superb!

Only complaint - I didn't know it was there before yesterday.

Sat right in front of barbeque so was nice and warm.

Meat (lamb) so tender - definitely going to be going back there with the girls.

Directions for Ocakbasi in the link {A Link to an old CBF topic was here - no longer available}20445 Steve - Sardunya is in Calis, as you walk down towards the wooden bridge, turn left as if going to Scarlett Bar and it is on the right hand side where Scarlett is on the left at the bottom  :)

When we ate at the Sardunya restaurant last year, they came over to the table, when we were eating, and poured us some mineral water from a litre bottle, which we hadn't asked for, but for which we were later charged. We had assumed it was on the house, as other restaurants had come to the table with freebies. Yes, I know we should have asked and yes I know mistakes happen, but we were the only customers in that night, apart from a table full of their family and friends. So if going to the Sardunya, just question if something arrives, you have not ordered.

We have eaten at the Sardunya and they usually give you something free, like melon at the end of the meal.  My husband is addicted to the Liver & Onion and says it's the best he ever tasted.  Also they serve a really big glass of wine, not a small measure like the other restaurants.
