what has happened to the exchange rate best at home here about 2.29 any better out there ? have been watching the rate daily could have got some before christmas 2.55 but bank had none in stock - sods law

Lira is strong against £ at the moment & may get stronger when the next election happens depending on who gets voted in.
-
Pound is weak against most currencies right now. Worries of a hung parliament seem to be the reason. Plus the UK is financially stuffed!
-
do you reckon better to bring sterling with us and get better rate in Turkey.

Yes that is probably the best way,but change £ in a bank not the street changers or the clothes shop bandit.
-
I change my sterling in one of the clothes shops near the Fethyie harbour front!!, was there 2 weeks ago and he consitently gives me the best rates!
Kevin
-
That is the Clothes shop bandit.!!
-
Did the 12 bore shotgun, that you held to his head have anything to do with getting his best rate?:D
-
Strange, after all the warnings about this guy on CBF people still use him!
-
From what I understand, if he doesn't rip you off from the start he gets you in the end. It is incredible that he gets any exchange customers, firstly because he is so well known as a con man and secondly with his location - surrounded by legit change shops and multinational banks. You could perhaps understand it if his shop was in the middle of nowhere and so were you.
It's amazing that people will use a clothes shop and expose themselves to the risk of getting ripped off, in pursuit of that extra 0.02 to the pound.
-
Time for a photograph of him, like the one of the other con man down by the market.
If we could put an image of him on CBF it would be a warning to new members.
-
I look for advice from the CBF so I need to take up the advice when I get as well .... no more exhanges from this guy again, he has not done me to date but looks like he will at some point!

My favourite of his many cons, scams and distractions is his "ten" con. When his exchange rate ends in a 9 (which is far more often than it ending in any other number in his emporium) he is Mr Generosity himself...
"Rate is 2.39, I will give you better, two point three TEN!"
Or as it's better known, 2.310 :D
-
Do you know what, now you say that, he has already had me!
Kevin
-
Really? :D
I have to say, begrudgingly, he's bloody clever :(
-
A case for the toursit Police now that I am so bloody angry! LOL

I had the opportunity to photograph him the other day but of course I didn't have my camera - typical. I'm gonna do my best to snap him and post his photo here.
I used to come into Fethiye especially to change my money with him many many years ago when I was young and niaive :(
-
Kevin you need to keep up !
-
Kevin isn't the first and he won't be the last sadly. If he doesn't get you with his "ten" con there are several others to follow up with.
Where Kevin scores in my book is claiming he had no problem, then reading my con description and owning up. I think I'd have kept quiet Kev, full marks to you for your honesty :D

You "live and learn" and you are "never too late to learn" comes to mind. This thread clearly shows the value of the forum and the very experienced helpful people who post in a non judgemental way!
I cannot wait for the picture of him to be posted, I am out in 2 or 3 weeks time again and will see if I can get him in the frame ... payback time and all that!

The problem is, is the hundreds / thousands of visitors who holiday in the area / Fethiye, who are not CBF members and hence, cannot be aware of his cons.... thats the `victims` who he thrives on... he is unstoppable unfortunately.
-
Fair point but best a few know about this con artist than no one at all. We all can spread the word informally as well to friends etc who are planning a hokliday!
