One resident wonders where all the post is going and asks for your help to get the problem resolved.

A good idea. All my post has gone missing since Xmas. Small packets and Birthday and Mother's day card. Very Unusual as I have never had a problem before.

I posted about this problem in the Uzumlu section of this forum and was surprised no one else responded back with simular problem, despite myself and our neighbours having post and packages going missing recently it appears we are unique in our loss of post here???

I have written to Anita about the article in the Fethiye Times. It will be in the Land of Lights this week. Please could anyone who has had this problem send her an e.mail? it is very distressing when mail goes missing and downright inconvenient when it is a driving licence!!

I wrote about this in February having received no mail since Christmas. It was our Silver wedding in February and knew that around 8 cards had been sent from England an also letters from nieces. Needless to say they never arrived. Our Digiturk bill was sent to us 2 weeks ago and still isn't here.Considering that the Christmas cards arrived in 7days what has happened since.
The guy in the office upstairs at the PTT assured me my mail will come but he didn't know when!!!!
I have written to Anita, in the meantime maybe we should go and sort our own mail!!!!!

It all seems to have gone pearshaped since Xmas. I have stopped having my mail delivered here until it is sorted out...

My house is not actually in the street that is the official address of the block - letters with my official address have never got to me ( I have seen some dumped in the grass in the middle of the block). For letters from the UK, I give the street that the house is actually in and, until Christmas, never had a problem.  Since Christmas, I have received no mail from the UK . I know that one Valentine's card went astray - I am feeling unloved :(
I have e-mailed Anita.

Last November/December we sent my birth certificate and our marriage license to UK and it never arrived.  Well where are they.  There is no way of knowing if they vanished at the UK end (Christmas or the RM strike action) or the Turkish end.  Whichever way it goes, its a shame and a pain.

I live in the Calis area. Over the past five years postal deliveries to my home have been a bit erratic.
Particularly, and somewhat oddly, I rarely get a delivery of just one item of post. Most delveries are of a batch of post. When such a batch includes items which originate from the UK they are often postmarked by as much as a month apart. I have not received a TTNET ADSL bill for the past 7 months.
I contacted the PTT head office in Fethiye about this situation last year. Their reply to me ( my best stab at a translation ) was that
" After investigation their conclusion was that deliveries to my home address were found to be efficient and timely ".

It brings to mind the situation which arose  some two years ago when there appeared to be a hiccup in the mail deliveries in the Yakamoz/Boazici area at Christmas time. So much so that the the PTT had delivered a large basket load of mail to one of these Restaurants
for customers to browse through to see if there was anything for them! Out of curiosity my wife and I browsed through the hundreds of cards and letters to see if there was anything for our friends who lived in the area.
There was none.
Neither was there any post addressed to ANYONE with a Turkish name.

We have lived here for 5years now and Mick's cousin has religiosly sent the local papers every month(well Southends football pages) in an A4 envelope.  Without fail the left hand corner is always torn open, its as if they have opened it a bit to see wots inside, even though its got printed papers on the envelope.  Not complaining, just wondering why they do it, cos at least we still get post.

On Tuesday I was summoned to meet the PTT Director at 2.30 p.m. this last Wednesday and quickly finding
some postless people to accompany me, visited his office.  He informed us through the translation of my poor husband who was roped in, that he was taking me to court. We all discussed our post problems and he smiled, waved us goodbye with promises of an investigation.

Later on when I reached home I was invited to attend a press conference at Land of Lights, Saturday 11 a.m.
Meanwhile we watched local TV news last night and the PT Director was on telling that the ex pats came to
see him and thanked him. He went on to say that we were making stories of parcels and letters, of which their was no proof, to get insurance money.

Today I attended the press conference to tell my side of the story. This now is the important part,

Press conference      PTT OTOGAR         Tuesday, 6th April     2.30 p.m.

They want about ten people and some Turkish people as well to attend to prove that its not just an
ex pat problem but everyone affected by the lack of post. If anyone would like to attend, please let me know.

Best wishes xxx Anita

I will be there Anita. Presumably the part where he said that he was going to take YOU to court was missed out of the interview!! bet he didn't mention the 100 e.mails and over 90 signatures that you have collected either from people who have had post go missing. Letters, packages, cards etc. Does he think we are all going to put in fraudulent insurance claims. How ridiculous.

To Everyone,

I have CANCELLED the meeting with the press scheduled for Tuesday, 6 April at 2.30 p.m. WHiCH WAS TO HAVE TAKEN PLACE AT THE OTOGAR PTT.

The reason being that the Press are only out to make news and I am being set up as the stooge. The post office
Director wants to take me to court this would be good ammunition for him.  Any public gathering without permission is now considered to be illegal.  Suddenly the post has started appearing again and Amazon has started an investigation too! I haven't stopped the campagn but it will be taking the form of letters to higher Govt. departments.

Thank you everyone    Watch this space.   xx Anita

I wish you luck, Anita.
Can't understand why the Director wanted to take you to court?  On what grounds, for complaining?

He said it was because we complained about the post office in the Land of Lights.

So will he be suing the land of lights for publishing it?

After waiting ages for 4 uk parcels, i received the 1st one today, that was posted on 29th March.
Others were posted prior to this so i wonder if they will get here at all.
I have had a postbox for years and can honestly say, no problems before.
Since the new year everything has been painfully slow but no-one knows why.

My Mum lives in Fethiye and I've told her I will send her no more post as I am sick of her post not being delivered!  She even got herself a PO box as another expat said they had one and always got post ok.  Hasn't helped at all!  I'm not impressed with the Turkish postal system (post I send at the same time to Germany always arrives ok!)

Any suggestions how to sort this problem would be appreciated.

I have been requested that everyone should now stop sending complaints to the email address I
provided as they have been inundated and everyone will be getting a reply in the next few days.

The Inspector of Post Offices has now started work in Fethiye and will trace the post back to Mugla,
Istanbul and the UK.  There is little hope that lost mail will be recovered but the whole system is now being
scrutinised to ensure a better future service. They are concerned that expats understand the issue is complicated.

The rudeness from the  PTT Otogar staff will be dealt with as a seperate issue.

Best wishes xx Anita

Just want to say thank you Anita for highlighting this very frustrating situation shared by many, maybe now we will no longer get a shrug of shoulders and 'problem yok' response when we enquire as to where our post has gone. Most stuff sent is not insured so how the director of the PTT can make that absured statement and get away with it is astounding. Perhaps you should take him to court instead, it works both ways ;)!

Well now, a few weeks on and Thankyou Anita for all you have done on this subject...we are to understand that all things considered with the help of PTT inspectors in Ankara and Mugla that there is no outstanding mail in Fethiye to be delivered.
We are also to understand that any undelivered mail will not be delivered now!!!!!
So the one question on everybody's lips is....WHERE IS THE MISSING POST!!!
Unfortunately it seems, there is not a PTT Inspector who can answer this question!!!!

We still have post missing, have been blaming it on the volcano, I have an e-mail telling me that one item of post was posted 15/04/10, still not here that was to our PTT box and also have UK bank statements that have not arrived at our home address, normally would have been here around 5/6 of the month.

Worse now than it ever has been.

Kevman I think the inspector has a pretty good idea how the majority of the post went missing, hence the comment that it was irretrievable, but without proof and evidence of exactly where when and by whom, combined with difficulty of any employer tracking down 'bad eggs' there was little more to be done, save to moniter and tighten the system from now on.
The volcano must be to blame for some current delays, but do note Anita's suggestion to continue to report missing mail.

Ha Ha.....Had to laugh today. We were pleased to find we had received 4 letters, the first since Xmas. So the post is back on track!!!! Not likely, 2 letters were for a neighbour 2 blocks away and the other 2.....well we are still trying to find owners for them as no one around knows who they are or where the address is. So the missing post is probably sat in someones post box that hasn't been opened for a while!!!

A postcard posted on the 28 April 2010 arrived in UK on the 3 May 2010 so it seems not only to be working on the outward journey but much speedier too - or was it a blip?

I quite often post to England and it is always faster. Usually about 4/5 days.

Do think it depends what you're posting. Sent a birthday card to my son (didn't seal it) and it took 17 days to get there. Having said that don't know which end is holding things up

A letter I mentioned earlier on this thread arrived today, post marked in the UK 15/04/10, 27 days to get here, correctly addressed, air mail sticker and a 59p stamp on it. This was to our PTT box.

Outside the boxes was a trolley load of mail waiting to be sorted, so if you are waiting for mail it may have arrived.
