Single status changed the contracts for a lot of council workers   The place I worked in at the time cancelled overtime and paid a weekly shift allowance.  Unfortunately the ones who lost were the nightshift workers who worked the hours no one else wanted.  The day shift gained.
All part of giving the public value for money.

Personally anyone who works night shift deserve a medal because I hated it.

This is a 42 bedded residential care home! They have already cut our night shift carers down to 2:(. Now they are stopping our weekend enhancements:([:(!]. We also get time and a half saturdays and double time Sundays and lieu hrs bank holidays. Moral at work is at an all time low. The only people that have benefitted from this "Equal Pay Review", are managers etc, it gets me so mad, they don't know the meaning of our job title Care assistant. Because our wages are decreasing we are pay protected for 12 month so I am determined to get to Turkey this year 8). What is the job website for NHS. :)

What about retail workers then? they have it as bad low pay, crap hours and conditions etc

Whilst people shop on Bank Holidays and Sundays etc then it will remain the same. I guess they knew what they were signing up for and like they say "If you don't like it get out".

My wife worked in retail part time and they treated her like crap, she loved her job but ended up taking them to court over a trip to Turkey, she won and took them for some money and now works for me doing my books ;)....

Lynn  did you not get to appeal the decision.

Our wages were dropped and we fought it.  During Single status everyone had the right to appeal if they were not happy.

We had a member of staff who fought it for us.  He appealed on the amount of responsibility that we were left with when senior staff were not there.

We had responsibility for security, money, drugs as well as the typical carer tasks.

My husband works in a really posh Country house hotel, he worked from Xmas Eve through to the day after New Years day, he didnt receive and special hourly rate and only got a day of in lieu, big deal!  I work 2 nights in a care home and apparently they didnt get any extra pay this year either, they werent allowed to use their annual leave but were allowed to take time off unpaid, how mean is that!
