Title: Cancellation of Visas For The Islands
Post by: farmer on April 05, 2010, 21:06:41 PM
According to issue 298 of the Land of Lights eforts are being made to cancel visas for the neighbouring Greek islands.
Specifically Simi and Rhodes are mentioned.

Does anyone know if Meis will be included?
If so this will appear to banjax the use of the three monthly trip to Meis to renew the 90 day visa to enable many ex-pats to continue their stay in Turkey.

I can see it having a great effect on the Fethiye - Rhodes Hydrofoil business, as what seems like half the passengers are making the trip solely to renew their visas.

regards,
farmer

I read it as that they are trying to cancel the visa payments to and from Greece also England. Which means no visa runs neccessary in the future. They are trying to increase tourism.

Are you sure it would mean that? It could mean that nothing changes apart from the price - i.e. instead of it costing £10 for a 90 day visa it costs nothing for a 90 day visa, but you still have to have one (and renew every 90 days maximum as is required now)?

I beleive it is aimed at the Greek island residents and the local Turkish at points of entry. I think the English reference is a bit of a red herring. Too much money at stake for the government and, if it is a local initiative, I wouldn't hold my breath. On the Meis issue, as a point of entry to Turkey for all sorts of visitors, it won't affect the 'visa run' at all IMHO.

When i mentioned this a few months ago i was told it would never happen it will happen ,and its nothing to do with tourism, they arent stupid they can see how much they are losing each year ,at the moment they they collect about 100tl why take that when they can get 300/400tl off of the ex pats not sure of the yearly price .:D:D
