Title: Council Tax
Post by: yasemin3 on April 10, 2010, 21:49:24 PM
could anyone tell me; when the council tax is due in May, how much is it, or is every property given a different amount like in Britain? Also, where do you go to pay it and can someone else do this for you?

The amount of council tax depends on the value on your tapu, mine was around 100tl for a 2 bed apartment. If your place is in Fethiye, you just go to the belediye offices above Carrefour. Provided they have a copy of the tapu, anyone can pay on your behalf

Is the council tax a year in advance or a year behind?

I just paid my council tax. They barely glanced at my Tapu and did not ask for my passport.
I was charged 150 TL for the year ( just a normal bill with no road tax or anything else and just 1 person living here).
My friend, 500 yards down the road in the same design house ( also living alone) just paid 54 TL for the year. Can anyone throw any light on this or do they make it up as they go along ( as they seem to for the water bill - see separate thread). Could
it be something with the declared size of the building on the Tapu ?

Did your friend buy his house some years before you as the value on the Tapu seems to have an influence on the tax?

Paid at the Council Offices in Fethiye this morning gone up 15TL since last year but still only paid 59 TL for the full year.....and that for a five bedroom apartment over 200 sq m so I am not complaining.  More interestingly I was not charged any road tax although the couple in front were clobbered! And yes our road was block paved last year! Admittedly they only relayed the existing setts. So I am not complaining again :) 8)

Hi Maximumtom.
Just went to pay the council tax this morning. We have a 2 bedroom apartment aprox 70 sq meters. Our council tax went up by 21TL this year. Last year we paid 55TL and this year it was 76TL.....there appears to be no rhyme or reason to the way the council tax is worked out.Our neighbours in the next block to us paid less road tax than us and around 30TL less council tax....and their apartment is 1/3 bigger than ours.
I think that they just pluck gures out of the air!!
