At last we have the photo many people have asked for. Thanks to Pookie for sending it.
If you want to feel that you got the best rate in town, then have that sinking feeling later when it dawns on you that you have been ripped off, here is your man:
Credit where it is due, he's bloody clever and has conned some very clever people when changing currency.
-
Well done Pookie!!!
You have managed what no'ne else has managed. Give yourself a 'Pat on the back' from all of us!!
8) 8) 8)
-
so much for being a secret spy, you've gone and blown her cover! :o
-
Ah, but no - she didn't take it 8)
-
I know who took it! but his names not on there:D
-
Great to see his face on here at last... Kevin will be pleased.
I hope there is some way to keep it to the forefront so new members will be able to see what he looks like.
-
nasty nasty man!!!!
-
Got to say he looks nothing like what i thought from the topics ive read regarding him, i expected him to be at least 20 years older.
-
Ive heard loads about him since joining this forum But can anyone enlighten me as to what exactly is his scam? He always used to ask me to change money but as i live here i dont use sterling. He used to annoy me too much though
-
He has many Jules and can switch and select the one to best bamboozle the person looking for change. Here I explain one of his cleverer scams: {A Link to an old CBF topic was here - no longer available}34628&whichpage=2
Best advice to people needing to change money: Don't use anyone who approaches you asking if you want to change money, don't change money in a clothes shop, walk a few metres more and use one of the change shops or banks.
I too had no need to change money in the 5 years I was there and throughout that five years he never gave up asking. I think I totally ignored him for the last 4 and a half years and STILL he asked.

Someone told us he was a German but not sure. Look out for his friend who works with him. A fat dark skinned balding guy who sometimes sits on a motor bike opposite our man, so you have to run the gauntlet between the two of them.:(
-
Thanks understand now He often offers exchange with 9 at the end. so can see how he works. I was tempted recently cos a friend came with sterling he owed me and his rate looked good compared to exchange office but im hanging on til rates go up anyway.
Hes given up with me now I just get the Nasilsiniz, But will make sure visiting freinds and family never use
-
Read the "ten" scam on the link which is clever.
However, when I read it out to the present Mrs H, she sussed it immediately.
You can take the quine out of Aberdeen, but you can't take Aberdeen out of the quine. That's my gal :)
-
he just say's hello to me now, buisness seems slow out of season , pity the photo is not put up in all the bars and restaurants, so tourists are aware of his scam

Yup, thanks go to Paparazzi king - 'Big Al'. The swindling *ugger knew what I was up to and was hiding from me. However Big Al pinched Lotties little pink digital and snapped this when the blighter wasn't looking (I think pink suits him....).
A nasty piece of work, avoid him at all costs.
-
opps, should have also said thank you to the Boss for posting it for me. Big sloppy kisses xx
-
Ahh yes, that's the fella. I was ripped of by him a few years ago. Never forget a face.

He is 20 years older than when we first came across the cheeky monkey![:(!] You've got to hand it to him -the guys got staying power!:-\
-
he ripped me off over 20 years ago same man same place and to me he still looks no older!
in some respects you got to admire the guy.. the banks and exchange shops will rip you off as well given half a chance! just keep your wits about you///am sure you would be wary of a street money changer offering great deals down the old kent road!
-
Grrr, yes, he had us too a couple of years ago! I can't believe he did it - I might not be the brightest person in the world, but I'm a long way from the most stupid! He is very clever! :(
We noticed a "trainee millionaire" plaque on his desk. He must be well on the way! 8)
He still tries it on every time we walk past. Last time we were over, hubby commented "you must be joking". He was shouting after us "what d'you mean!!" Sleazebag!!! [xx(][8)] :o
-
Jules, I think you are right....he knows we know, but theres not a lot we can do about it. He damn well knew I was trying to get a photo of him and he messed around hiding behind trees etc with the biggest smug look on his face.....grrrrrr
-
is this man who has clothes shop near kfc.
-
Bugga King :)
-
oh dear i always go to him dont know how many times i have changed hundreds of pounds.but never again thanks to this forum.he always told me to make sure he had given me the right ammount and to take my time ha ha .i wondered why he always remembered me .[?]
-
He's a very clever man. He even gave me a calculator to check I was happy with my money. Trouble is, he kept talking and telling me what to put into it, and I just got confused and went along with his "two point thirty ten" (2.310) instead of the 2.39 being offered elsewhere at the time. He makes it sound like he's giving you a fantastic rate - better than anywhere else! Times that by the three or four hundred quid that we changed - we were well and truly done! And if I remember rightly, he even had the nerve to ask me for the odd few lira to "round up".
The way he works is like this:
He offers you 2.310 (two thirty ten as he says) x £300 = 693 lira
2.39 (rate at the time everywhere else) x £300 = 717 lira
(immediately done out of 24 lira)
Or for £400 - 2.310 x £400 = 924 lira
2.39 (correct rate at the time) x £400 = 956 lira
(thus doing us out of 32 lira)
Avoid him like the plague, unless you've got money to throw away!!

It is not that easy to give Pookie "A Pat on the back " you do not see that many cows in fielsd in Fethiye. :D ;)
-
and thank god for that....!:D
-
He tried to rip my Dad off when we were on holiday, some how my Dad noticed-being very switched on about numbers I guess, he said I am 10 lira short or something, what exchange rate are you using! Of course never used him since! yukky man giving Turkey and turkish people a bad name.
-
That's the other point, because one cheat wants to make a 10 lira dishonestly, it could be the lasting memory people take away from their holiday in Turkey - and for £4 never come back, so one person wins and hundreds lose.
-
I am really pleased that this rat has been outed and I feel awful that the guy has fiddled me on more than one occasion, not any more!
Stupid question, if it is common knowledge that this guy is ripping people off, why is nothing done about it by the authorities?
Kevin
-
Probably because no one complains to the authorities... Some people will never know they have been done, and some find out and it's then too late to prove it. We need an undercover agent with a secret video camera!!
-
You could do it Jacqui, like one of those secret agents in 'allo 'allo :D
-
I have passed this conman many a time over the years and it never fails that he tries to entice you in to change money - even if you have just been to the change shop on the corner. He just never gives up.
-
He used to p me off too much But now just says merhaba etc. Must have got the message from me But I didnt realise he was a conman anyway,We live and learn !

Listen very carefully I will say this only once....He knows us and we are never very nice to him...
This mission , Badger, if you choose to accept it is yours ;)
-
Ha Ha! The challenge is on!! Who is going to be the first to get the info on tape/video?
: :)
-
When you really think about it its not a con but a play on words. Its us gullible tourists that need to wise up? :)
-
I have never used him, but has anyone ever reported him to the police, as surely this is fraud. Prehaps everyone who has been conned should make a complaint,
-
I love the banner ad,brilliant!
-
Keith I love the banner it's great, what we need are copies of these to hand out in Fethiye, and perhaps a large one to put up opposite his shop!
-
I have just sent the banner ad to all my friends for them to pass on to anyone who might be coming out on holiday.....
-
brilliant Boss Love the banner !!!!
-
Brilliant banner
:D:D
-
Is it me? (yea I know it has to be) Wot banner?
I have it on good authority; my spouse, who is from Fethiye that this guy is also from Fethiye i.e. Turkish and is of undesirable political persuasion F....st or something!!!
-
Ok, I found it at the top of the page, :-\ but it is not always there and i don't often see it at this magnification [xx(][?] ;)
