Title: Dennis The Menaces
Post by: kizkucuk on May 09, 2010, 15:26:03 PM
I stopped for a cocktail the other night - cheaper than most places and very good - the menu looks good and not over priced - anybody eaten here since Dennis took over?  What would you recommend?

Yes we have. The food was good but not that special. Also as I have stated before the drinks price on the menu was not what we were eventually charged. Maybe they have changed them since we complained. He is a very nice guy though and his staff are good.

We ate there the other Saturday, I personally would recommend the Lamb Shank, absolutely delicious, also my husband recommends the liver, onion and bacon.  8)

Just back from Calis on Saturday and visited Dennis on several occasions.  We've know him since first visiting a few years ago and he's a really nice guy.

There's a comfortable seating area to just have a drink and the main restaurant bit is next to it.  It's in a good position for anyone who doesn't want to/can't walk too far just to the right on the prom.

Liver and onions for starters is my favourite.  Worth a visit when you're in Calis.

We've just got back this morning(group of 4), and ate there the first night of the 2 week holiday. We were served by the George who last year worked at the Harem: we've known him for years and although the food was good we thought it expensive. It may well have been that we didn't check the bill properly as we were pretty tired after a 12-hour delay. The girls bumped into George in Fetiye one day during our second week and he commented that we hadn't been back: he followed that up with telling them that he expected to see us at least twice before our return. We decided that was a bit too cheeky so didn't go back at all...
He claims to  be a partner in the new venture but we weren't convinced. The missus and i are back in Sept so we might pop in and give them a second chance.

We ate there a couple of times and found the food good and we did not think it too expensive.  Personally, I found the helpings far too big for me to finish.  On the last visit I had piri piri chicken which was delicious, but the portion would have been enough for two.

I have eaten there a few times and thought the food was fantastic. You have to wait a while but its worth waiting for. The sword fish and chicken toplia are my favourites.

Certainly can't disagree with that. It makes me wonder what they have on the menu

We thought the name was pretty bad too, however, saw a lot of British people remarking on the name and a big party came in with some young lads who were taking photos of the menu and the Restaurant name above the tables, so maybe the owners think it will appeal to the Brits.
Incidentally, the Sea Bass was to lovely.. George came and filleted it at the table and it was absolutely delicious.

Visited a couple of times after passing "Mr Rush" and being talked in (not to hard) good breakfast, good beer, and they take time to talk to you. Did forget to take my footie shirt back for the ceiling though. Worth a visit

Went to Dennis the Menaces for the first time this evening after being recommended by friends.
I ordered the peppered steak, medium rare, and another in our party ordered their steak well done. The steak I was served was cooked well done, and my friends was medium! We sent them back and then my steak arrived cooked medium(!) my friends was as first ordered (well done). I sent the second steak back too :( Finially I was served my medium rare steak  :)
When I asked them to change my steak for the second time as it was not medium rare, the waiter stated 'well what is it then?!'  :o ermm medium and not what I ordered.
In the end.. third time lucky, I got what I ordered.
I must admit though, when I got the steak cooked as I ordered it was very nice.
So all in all a mixed review from me... but customer service never goes amiss  :)

Just back this morning from Calis, had to say that denis is a genial host and they have Rushy back at his old stomping ground as a greeter plus a young lad called jan who is a very likeable had a fair few drinks in there plus the odd bit of brekker reasonably priced relaxed atmosphere and tasty food well worth a visit

Agree totally AOk. Stopped in last Tuesday but left after 1 drink as music was diabolical. Urban, tuneless cr4p!
Denis arrived and kicked some ass as the waiters were all gathered round the TV, (blaring as well as the music),as some tables were uncleared. You should have seen the waiters jump to!

I've just come back from Turkey and I have to say we went to Dennis the Menace every single night the food was great for the price and the quality and we thoroughly enjoyed the bar with a free pool table! Each member of the staff were extremely friendly and great to hang out with. It was the best bar we had been too along to sea front! I strongly suggest you go there, everything was reasonably priced and it was filled with such lovely people!

Once again a first post that bursts with nothing but praise about one single restaurant and no mention of any other. Food, prices, quality, every member of staff, even filled with lovely people. Not the first time we have been here with this restaurant ( {A Link to an old CBF topic was here - no longer available}40432 )

It sounds so perfect it's almost difficult for me to believe it...

We where in there too the night of the Auction and got chatting to a waiter we knew from other restaurants.  There was a very pretty girl sitting near us and most of the night she was on a computer.  The waiter introduced her as his English fiance, who had come to live with him until they married next year. ;)
We thought she was a very nice girl, but also thought she must be bored to tears, as he was working every night and day.
Do I have a suspicious mind [?]: :)
However, the food was fine a good meal, but it would not make us want to go back every night and not eat anywhere else. :o

Eating at the same restaurant every single night certainly doesn't appeal to me. But does the post actually say that I wonder. It maybe was that Catherine ended up there every night. Perhaps Catherine can clarify this for us.

I will share with you why that won't be happening. These people are asked to write a glowing review on CBF when they get home and that's exactly what they do - they join, write it, read nothing else while they are here, log off and we never ever see them here again. That is why you will not get your clarification.

Alternatively, they come back and see replies like this one, and accuse us of only allowing long standing members in the CBF clique to have opinions. For the record, in all my years of knowing Calis, including 5 living there full time, I have never found a restaurant who were as perfect on all matters like this one is portrayed to be :-\

I would just like to add some thing to reitarate what a genuine man mussy is. We have had our apartment since 2005 and over the years have used all the places mussy has happened to be working.
When we arrived in June it was quite late so we just said we would just have a stoll and drink and a snack. We ended up in mussys. After saying our hello's and a few effes we paid our bill and said goodnight.
The next day we we where on the beach mussy came across and asked us if we had paid our bill for the the night privious, as we hadn't had to much to drink I remember the bill came to 45lr and as I thought gave him a 50lr note i said yes is there a problem. He then took Carol back to the bar and showed her our bill which in deed was for 45lr. The problem was that unknown to me I had actually given him a 50 euro note.He then proceeded to give me a lecture on how I should be more careful with my money and handed us back the change.
I don't think I would have got my change back in many places so that is why we will always support mussy in were ever he is working.
Can't wait for Sept.
Ian Carol.

Back to the food ( a favourite subject of mine) they do an excellent english breakfast, that starts the day just right.  Which should always be a good reason to recommend a place!!

Not sure what a review of a restaurant has really got to do with Cagdas and Sarah?! Sarah is indeed a lovely girl, and I'm puzzled as to what there is to be suspicious of about her sitting on a laptop in the restaurant?  Cagdas is working hard to save up for their wedding, Sarah is enjoying her time in Turkey and rather than sitting on her own in an apartment chooses to sit in the restaurant, having a chat with whoever she wants to. 6 years ago I was in exactly the same situation and spent hours sitting in the same restaurant waiting for my (now hubby) to finish work. I have great memories of those nights as I met and talked to so many lovely people, many of whom are still friends today, on the quiet nights I also read some great books (laptops in bars were a rarer sight then!)

Just because you are on your own it doesn't mean you are bored to tears, or some kind of friendless saddo with only a laptop for company! Not everyone goes to Calis for the same experiences, it takes all sorts after all :P

Well said! Looking forward to see Cagdas and Sarah next week and of course visiting Serkul 1 for their lovely fish casserole. The food is obviously the most important thing when you eat out. But we really enjoy the company too.

Dennis is indeed a very genuine and kind man. He allows us to have our charity sales there every week throughout the year( closed during August) and a room to store all our stock in FREE OF CHARGE. Also all of the people who work for Embrace are allowed a discount on any any food or drink they buy at any time as he loves that we are helping the Turkish children. Not many bars on the seafront would do that. Well done Dennis and staff who are always very helpful to us. The 7 lira all day breakfasts are brilliant plus he will make alterations to the menu to suit as I prefer my eggs scrambled not fried .
