Taken from this weeks Land of Lights "Expatriates who are settled in our town and are not granted by work permits are are not allowed to carry out transfers at the Dalaman airport either by their private or their rented vehicles" The article goes on to refer to imprisonment and fines etc......so is picking up someone from the airport a"Transfer" or not? Needs clarification I think.:(
-
Sounds like the 'Dalaman Taxi Mafia' are at it again! [:(!]
-
I have been told about this, is there a link for the article, and does anyone know who we contact for clarification of picking up family and friends. thanka all

Absolutely! I think even the local Mafia, whoops Authority would find it difficult to prosecute someone for meeting and transporting there relatives to and from an international airport? They would have to prove that it was for gain (of some description) to class the act as work?
-
things have changed at the airport....if you are meeting people you now have to wait in the car park, not at the arrival entrance..no body is allowed in that area i understand. :o
-
Beat me to it Brian , just arrived back from pick up not allowed up ramp to arrival entrance any more everyone has to wait in carpark even the Taxis
-
Gets more and more ridiculous
-
Going to be a bit difficult to find any one in the Carpark when it gets busy:-\

found this on facebook today
Salih Tasçi, the Chairman of Tursab Fethiye. made a statement to our newspaper, warning against illegal transfers.
Salih Tasçi furnished the following information: "As you know, Law No. 1618 authorizes Travel Agencies and Union of Travel Agencies to organize tours and transfers. Expatriates who have settled in our town and are not granted by work permits are not allowed to carry out transfers at the Dalaman airport either by their private or rented vehicles.
Article 29 of the law states that in the absence of an operation license from the Ministry, those involved in activities granted to Travel Agencies are subject to imprisonment from three to six months and are fined up to a total per diem of one thousand days, in addition to administrative investigation.
Therefore, tours and transfers must be organized by Travel Agencies registered with
TURSAB. Those involved in illegal transfers will be subject to administrative investigations and penalties

totally ridiculous [:(!] how about when you are picking up elderly relatives that have difficulty walking and you need to help them carry backs etc [:(!][:(!]
-
This is absolutely disgusting. In effect any Turkish citizen can pick up their relatives, but expats can't! What would happen if this law was applied in the U.K.? Could you imagine all air passengers having to take taxi's to and from the airport? Seems to me that the government here are trying to squeeze every last penny from expats and their families. I wonder what would happen if families of expats suddenly stopped visiting? This would have a huge impact on tourism in this area.
-
More and more on this forum you read the ex-pats are being squeezed to the high hilt! How far can the Government go before foreigners stop buying property and their relatives stop visiting due to the high costs of airfares, cost of living whatever?
The well will run dry!
If you can't even pick your disabled mum up at arrivals there is nothing more to be said!
-
The post said everyone has to pick up from the carpark, there was no mention of just one group or the other.... I suppose foreigners will stop buying property when the prices are so high there is no point in it. I am sure the kindness i have always seen extended to the elderly will happen at Dalaman, with wheelchair ass etc. Much of this is being done to stop illegal pick ups from the airport, a fine example of the minority working illegally buggering it up for the rest of us.......you cannot work in Turkey without a work permit so dont........
-
The way I read it is that you can't make a business of airport transfers, a lot of people without permits etc do transfers & arrange tours for gain. This has always been the law in recent years. We are still picking up family & friends that are staying with us & have had no problems.
-
Picked up my step daughter last week, the jolly policeman at the gate gave us a cheery wave on...no problems.
-
i think what they mean by transfers is in a bussiness way. i have noticed quite a few expats recently who appear to be doing transfers for profit gain and am sure they would be the first ones to complain if they were licensed and paid insurance etc. about illegal drivers taking work away from them.
i went up to the airport yesterday to pick up some friends...no problems whatsoever. and the carpark meeting area at the bottom of the ramp is quite organized and less cramped. noticably so as 3 plane loads were coming out at once.
-
Well said I was getting fed up standing at the arrivals door fighting with the must have a fag brigade ,i am sure that if you are meeting elderly or disabled folk some leaway will be shown
-
I'm pretty sure it's just to stop unlicensed transfers. I mean - our friends go out to our house, hire a car for a few days. We arrive at the airport and they cannot pick us up? Doesn't make sense at all. As for getting in an unlicensed transfer car - don't do it. You will not be insured if there is an accident and your holiday insurance will be void in that case also. It could work out a very expensive ride. On top of that it takes away a job for a legitimate business - probably helping prices to rise.
-
thanks stoop stuart and calvin i agree with you all

this is a further statement from the chairman of tursab, have also put this on the other topic regarding this matter, hope this helps put fears to rest:
The Land of Lights recently published an article, "TURSAB Warns Against Illegal Transfers." This appears to have caused some confusion amongst our readers. LOL decided to clarify the comments made in the article by having another meeting with Salih Taşci, President of Fethiye's TURSAB.
He explained everything for the benefit of LOL readers. "The Dalaman police are particularly concerned about stopping unlicensed transfers: you know, people who are doing illegal transfers: travelling back and forth between Fethiye, Calis, Hisarönü and the airport for money."
Taşci continues, "Of course no one wants to stop anyone going to Dalaman to collect friends or family from the airport but neither do we want this important aspect of the tourism sector to remain under regulated. The police at the airport are now recording car registration numbers and if any are seen making a suspiciously frequent number of visits, without the required license, they will be checked."

so,....don't you dare laugh!! If and when(hmmm) your luggage stays in Manchester when you have arrived in Dalaman, you have to wait for the carrousel to stop(gobsmacked bacause your case didn't show)then queue up at the lost and found office for ages, then get shown to the next door office cos this was the wrong one for that airline, then you have to gallop out through the doors, down the ramp(whilst still evilly looking for your case or similar colour),across the car park(through the milling crowds)looking for your transfer!quick word with driver (i knackered and pee'd off by now)back across car park ,up ramp and up to doors to confirm with lost and found office.refused entry at exit doors,so up stairs to departures, round building, down stairs to office to be told no luggage for 2 days. What a welcome!!! good job i'm easy going.(got it eventually though) ha ha
