... or rather the lack of them.
I am always curious about things that aren't there. In this case dogs that don't bark in the night. Everywhere I have travelled in Turkey there are street dogs. Even the campus of Mugla University has its own resident pack. With the exception of Istanbul. There don't seem to be any dogs in the central area and I haven't seen them in those suburbs through which I have passed. So, where are they? What happens to abandoned dogs in Istanbul? Or am I just being unobservant?

yes we visited istanbul recently and noticed there were no dogs i assumed that because it was very modern and forward city compared to the rest of turkey the dogs have just dwindled away hopefully because the alternative i dont want to think about

If you search the internet you can find lots of information on Istanbul street dogs but be warned some of it does make very distressing reading so I am deliberately not posting details here.

Thats why I didn't provide the answer either tribaleader!

Dont worry. There are plenty of street dogs here in Istanbul. Just go to the marmara hotel in taksim square and you will see their resident mut having a sleep by the door.
Bottom of our road we have 4 which we feed occasionally.

we saw a few golden retriever type pups on the corner near the underground cistern last year and all grown up this year, pretty sure were same ones, too much of a coincidence.

Plenty in the Cankurtaran district (behind the Blue Mosque)
-
Every area has them but they mainly sleep during the day and get into their gangs at night and patrol their areas sometimes clashing with another gang and having a bark off at 3am.

We are still talking about dogs? Your description reminds me some people that I have known.

Unfortunately in Calis / Fethiye doggy company is hard to avoid.
