hi everyone i would just like to take my hat off to gul and nevra at MAYA BAR, there new place, just before the ceren hotel on the beach front is wonderful. the music the furniture the service and most of all the warmest of welcomes. it just goes to show what a womans touch can do, AND THERES TWO OF THEM! good luck girls xxx
-
Wasn't there three of them last week?
-
Yes good luck to them. We will go and have a drink there in June. I wish them all the very best of luck x
-
I love the decor the music and the ambience - however their tea is expensive compared to other places along the front.
-
Are these the girls who used to be at hotel letoon ,i do hope their music isnt like all the other bars playing crap western music .
-
Yes they are Lance - don't know about the music. :)
-
i dont know scunner but the TWO girls are on top of it all . and ive got a feelin that tonights gonna be a good night!!!
-
I agree. It is the best looking bar in Calis, a delight to sit in. I paid 9tl for a Bailleys......same as Joseph's in main street.
-
In answer to Scunner query - the third girl is Sezgi who also used to work at Letoon and who I understand is working at Maya.
So glad that they all seem to being so successful. They certainly deserve it :)

And i bet the bottle came all the way from Gatwick........two for a tenner ;) why do we FOOL for it[?]
-
Yes I agree with that - 20 x 50ml measures in a litre bottle @ 9 TL each = 180 TL or as we know it, seventy eight quid!!! on a duty free bottle which cost a tenner max.
It is very rare that any Baileys/Jack Daniels/Famous Grouse etc was bought in Turkey.
-
9 lira not bad when you look at the cost of rent on the front and what a veiw
-
I'm not talking about this bar specifically. 9 to 10 lira for a glass of something that costs 10 quid a bottle is quite normal in nearly all bars and restaurants. If you think a ninefold markup on anything at all is "not bad" you want your head read :D.
-
If I only get 50ml per glass there's going to be trouble ;)
-
I agree - but also Baileys over there is almost invariably served with ice or worse still crushed ice - so it may look like 50ml but it's something like two thirds water :-\
-
My stock reply when asked if I want ice and lemon in my gin and tonic is "Only if there's room" ;)
-
ha ha will try to remember that one!
-
I like that one highlander, I will remember that ;-)
-
the answer is put the ice in after the alcohol has been put in !!!!!!!!!!
-
WHAT ! :o
And risk displacing enough liquid so that it spills over the top of the glass - No chance ;)
-
I agree that there is next to no alcohol in the glass and it was filled with crushed ice, making it look a lot. Same in all bars, not just MaYa. However, the location is stunning and so is the bar.
:D

It's a lovely bar, Billy and I spent two nights just sitting there watching the world go by on the little couches facing out towards the sea and made sure we were there again for the parade on Saturday, a fab spot to watch it all.
As Rosemary has already said it's no more expensive that some but has the advantage of a great spot on the prom.
Good luck to the girls, they've set their standards high and from what I've seen they're maintaining it, I hope they have a great season
-
Well, from what I've read, and from knowing the girls for so long, I can't wait to settle down with the family and soak up their legendary hospitality in these new surroundings.
Anyone who know's these girls will know they deserve the maya Bar to be successful.
Roll on August.
Oh, and if you are reading this girls, Lander and Millie say a BIG MERHABA.........xXx
p.s. Photos anybody?!?!
-
There's some on here Graham.

on monday they have live entertainment from 9pm
-
We cycled past there when they were just about to open and had a good old giggle cos the person varnishing the wooden decks was standing in the middle using a long handled roller/brush. Did she stay there until the varnish dried??? It's exactly the kind of stooopid thing I would do ;)
-
Well i was one of the first to say about MA YA bar how nice etc ,after spending quite a bit of time in there over the last two weeks and spending quite a bit of money ,im afraid they wont be getting our trade anymore due to the way we were treated the other day ,two of us sat from 2pm the other day to get the nearest table to the t.v.on friday the other four were joining us later on to watch the football ,when every one was there and game just about to start they came and put another 6 chairs infront of us for some holiday makers when we complained we were basicly told to stop moaning and get on with it ,that we did we got the bill and went up the road ,bad news girls we all live here winter as well your the ones going to miss out ,typical bar owner just looking at todays profits not in 6 months ,so girls make the most of it cos you probably wont be there next year shame silly girls.:-\:(:(
-
Holiday makers?????????? The cheek of them wanting to see the game also!!! :P. If they were blocking your view Lance, you could have asked those dreadful "holidaymakers" to move round slightly. Maybe the girls did not know you were a resident of Calis affording you the special priviledge of a ring side seat! :D

What a load of rubbish you were not there so you dont know what went on she was rude ,to us and i dont take that from anyone ,she was the one who said the best place to put the tables .
We would have been back in the next day with even more family ,i wonder if the holiday makers have been back in ,and by the way 5 out of the 6 have known them all since letoon .:(:-\
-
If she was rude Lance, then that's different, and you are quite right not to take it, but the tone of your previous post read as though you'd spat the dummie out because some holidaymakers had sat in front of you. As for being a load of rubbish.......well it's just an opinion.

She was very rude Toky her words were oh get over it move the table if you cant see ,we put the table where she said ,the sad thing is i dont even like football.
-
Some friends of mine were actually sitting eating their lunch in a bar on Carnival day when the waiter came up to them to ask them to move as some german customers wanted that table so they could watch the parade in comfort. Won't tell you what my friends answer was but I think the germans got the message. Unbelievable that the waiter had the cheek to ask.
-
arnt tourists a pain in the arse! someones toys are out of the pram but i suppose its your choice where you spend your money
-
'Get over it' sounds pretty rude to me! Good business practice is to look after customers who you believe will keep coming back but also to welcome new ones without comprising anyones enjoyment of the restaurant or bar. I would have thought!
-
Lance - nice to have met you, co-incidently in Maya.
I was not there so obviously cannot comment on what was said or the manner in which it was said, but isn't the screen elevated enough for all to be able to see.
-
Two very different experiences at the Maya Bar within our group this year.
After reading these reviews, me and Frankie thought we'd go along and try it out for a change - had a really nice time, we ordered our cocktails and they left us to it to chat and giggle loudly and take our time over our drinks. When we paid we only only had three tens so they gave back one ten and let us off 2 lira. Thought that was really decent and recommended it to my mum and dad who tried it the night after. They took their time over the beers and then at one point had one of the girls ask if they wanted another drink. Parents had the impression that she was implying if they didn't want another drink they should probably go, so my dad asked for the bill and mentioned that we'd been here the night before and found the girl was sort of back peddling, saying she remembered us and how nice we were and all this.
Overall they weren't really impressed with the attitude of the girls there. A shame really because we enjoyed it, but hearing that has put me off a bit if it's still there next year.
-
You must be easily put off then Tiddly, or your parents are very touchy. Staff in any bar will ask if you want another drink, it's their job to do so. Probably if they'd be ignored, that would have upset your parents also. No win situation eh?
-
I agree with that word for word Toky.
-
best burgers in calis in my opinion might even go and have one today!
-
OMG you mean the kitchen is up and running ;)
-
Pete......you are making me soooooooooo jealous!
-
I have to agree with Lance on this,I have tried it a few times (efes is 3.5lira Scunner)but I am not impressed,My feeling is the girls have been around the bars a bit to long. I will say no more really, but think it is just another opportunistic location that offers little to promote it,and sincerity is a bit thin.Every one to there own I guess.

I can see where your coming from Toky, but it's difficult to explain in writing how it was put across. Either way, when I heard it I wasn't too impressed. I may try it again next year, I may not.
My parents touchy? Nope you have the wrong people there, it takes a lot. I've been trying for 17 years! 8)
-
This is why this forum is great, with all the different opinions. Captainjohn, what is there not to be impressed about? It's a great location, beautifully furnished, soft lights and candles, all the choices of branded and local drinks, and I couldn't fault it when we were out in May. Has something happened to change all that, or have you had a bad experience you could share with us?

Now now Toky, you must appreciate the self-appointed "Pantomime baddie" role captainjon has taken on CBF :D Good for post count and page views I must admit :)
Efes 3.5 lira, free sea view - everything he seeks is there! The comment about the girls being "around the bars too long" is a little puzzling - surely that is the whole point, that after years of working for someone else they have their chance to do it for themselves, just like Rushie last year. One thing I know is that it is a difficult thing to say no to, but management brings with it the pressure and responsibility, and the rent and bills are yours too. It can be hard to lighten up some days if for example the rent is due and things are tight, where for years all you had to do was smile and pour drinks. I'm not trying to make excuses, everyone should have a permanent 24/7 smile on in the service sector but sadly life and economics don't always help with that.
I hope Gul and the others find the balance as they deserve their chance.
-
I agree with captain john on this it is in a lovely position but it all seems so dead in there the umph has gone out of it, been down there twice this week 7pm one day and 1pm yesterday not one person in there ,and you have a job getting them off the p.c.they are on ,if you do want a drink ,why they didn't go in with neshe next door i dont know she has almost shut down cant do efes for the same price ,but she has the kitchen work together girls [^] ;)
-
they have a kitchen now and do great food
-
I didn't experience any of the negative statements when we went to Maya. I will ceretainly pop in again and enjoy the ambience of sittiing on the rattan couches, soft lighting, looking out to sea, with a well presented drink in my hand.

We went past Maya a lot when we were over in June, but only once did we see anyone actually in there - not once did we see any of the ladies that are running it out front. it is difficult when you are starting a new place, but because there was never anyone out front and it was always so empty we never tried it. Probably our loss.
-
A negative review from John and Lance..
It was not empty when I went by !
Seemed very busy when the World Cup was on..!
I think for a first season the girls are doing fine..
You can't please all of the people all of the time....
-
just to say i think maya is a great little layed backchilled:D bar and the staff are friendly and welcoming, the drinks are not that different to other places and the food very good, well done girls and keep up the good work.
-
Loved this place as did the other members of our party who we told about it! Went because Highlander has given it some good reviews and we werent disappointed. The burgers are amazing and the ambience and setting is super. Probably wouldnt have gone had we not have stayed 'that end' of the beach but so glad we did. A little gem!
-
We go to Maya fairly regularly and love the place. As already said, great home-made burgers and the salads are good too. As a wine drinker, I can say that their wine is good and served in lovely glasses. We have always found the service to be friendly but unobtrusive, so suits us very well. We have taken a number of friends there who now always go back too.
