People don't seem to post much about the Orient nowadays. It was once THE place to go, some evenings you could go there and take a while to spot an empty table. I wonder why. Maybe it didn't move with the times, becoming Calis's most consistently not bad restaurant.

We had evening meals here 7 out of 15 nights whilst we were in Calis recently all were Excellent Plus fresh steamed to perfection vegetables and real potatatoes rather than rice -n- chips.as is the norm

We returned to other places for evening meals  that we had visited over the years but in our opinion this is the best.

drinks [ shorts]  were huge beer @ 4 for a bottle .
George is still there and another one who,s been there for a few yrs plus Gengis [ pony tail lad ex nil bar].

compared with the harem  er ozz  bostans lighthouse,  The  Orient had far more eaters / drinkers each evening  of couples and familys.

well recommended

Absolutely agree with Blueclad - we have eaten here probably 4 evenings this visit (and a couple of breakfasts) and the food is excellent (consistently) and service from George and the team is spot on.  We had their version of chateaubriand(sp) last time and it was fabulous.
I spotted the dessert fridge last night - may just have to call again this evening -
Only one complaint - the loo's not the best I've visited, especially toward the end of the evening - wish Turkey had more "accommodating" plumbing!

Well fancy I was only thinking about the Orient and how quiet it had been on here with regard to comments/ reviews. We couldnt go to Calis without a visit or several. 21 years ago it was the only proper place to eat and I think our first hols we ate there lunch and dinner the whole 2 weeks! Loved the place and the staff- Mehmet of course now of the Harem being one of them! Mr Mehmet the boss is still as charming as ever and will always have a special place in our hearts for being so consistenly kind and respectful to my late parents.
Re the plumbing it has improved beyond compare since we first visited when it was a hole in the ground and required me to make a swift dash back to our pension to use our own facilities! How times ( and our expectations) have changed!

Must say I had the best meal of my holiday at the Orient, the swordfish with prawns and calamari. I also  find it very pleasing that you can have a chat with George without feeling any pressure to eat there.

On a par I think - both are really good.  Steaks at Orient are amazing but George's Garlic Mushrooms are mmmmmmmmmm.
