Having booked a year ago we are due to fly from Gatwick next Friday.
Since we booked we have had the standard 3 letters changing our flight times with the last effectively removing a days holiday
However when I informed them of my change of address and email the confirmation they have sent has different times to the letters, maybe the original times (??)
They are impossible to speak to by phone any all email correspondence has resulted in them sending new confirmation, but again with different times to the letters
Should this be really this difficult!!....
-
Sorry to hear of your problems Steve but we have been using Aegean/Onur for a few years with no difficulties.Any changes to flight times have been minimal. I have always found that they (Aegean) respond promptly to e mails and on the one occasion that I had to telephone them they were very helpful and made return calls to me. I suppose it depends largely on who picks up your enquiry in their office. There I've done it, tempted fate, our September flight will probably be a shambles now.
-
same here - three time changes....only informed this week of final change and we fly out on Tuesday. Have lost a whole day of holiday too :( We have flown Onur for years, but this year they do seem to have deteriorated considerably. They will now be my last option when booking.
-
I always find this site an interesting read before I use a new airline. Not many 2010 reviews on Onur but the last three are a little damning and I must say having flown with them I can agree with the comments on the crew, the uncomfortable seats and lack of leg room - as well as the extortionate prices.

Well, I have just had an official response by email that confirms the original dates are correct and not the ones in the 2 letters since then....the problem is I am not sure if I believe them
If true then we get back the day we have lost
They tell me my 'tickets' should arrive soon so I guess that will confirm for sure. Until then I will have to write off the train advance tickets that I can no longer use (as new times don't allow for an easy train connection)

OMG all this kerfuffle this year with Turkish flight companies is making me think long and hard for next year!
-
Interesting - I just checked arrivals as we have some friends going over with Saga today. Just about all on time or early - apart from Onur!

The lack of legromm affords about 3 more inches than TC. The uncomfortable seats are the same as any other charter airline and the extortionate prices are for facilities that I don't need on a four hour flight. I get a meal deal from Boots at £3.49 and this suits me fine. To me the main parameter is to get from Manchester to Dalaman and back at the lowest cost and on this score only Easy Jet can compete and I wouldn't give them the time of day.

Trust me - there is no way you get 3" more than TC. I've flown both and felt much more cramped and uncomfortable on Onur. The seats were a probably the worst I have ever had to endure. I had a metal bit stuck in my back and coming home the guy in front was in constant recline. Leg room was as bad as I have found with any flight.
-
In our experience Onur are the pits. Onur change/cancel flights/days/airports at the drop of a hat. We have many guests and those flying with Onur are always disrupted. When you finally get on the plane there is little leg room, the seats have no padding and are like sitting on a loo seat, a bottle of water is an extortanate price and I wont go as far as to say the staff are dishonest but its strange how they NEVER have change and NEVER remember to bring it back to you!!! Aegean I have always found good at sorting out Onurs cancellations. We've booked Onur through A1 Travel for this August (by mistake I might add, not by choice). The outgoing flight has already been changed so that we land at dawn, (something we wanted to avoid as we're taking our 4 year old grandson) and we still have another 2 weeks so it could change many more times yet!!
-
Funny hillside - we did the same thing by mistake with A1. Last time I book through them without ringing and checking flight operators first.
-
I did check the Onur website and was confident as they didnt appear there - thats because I think they never did exist at that time! I should have realised with the return flight times they were a Turkish Airline - I could/should kick myself. Oh well maybe it'll be a positive experience! LOL!!
-
I posted earlier complimenting Aegean and feel that I must add my comments on Onur Air.
As I said earlier we have been using them for a number of years (twice each year) and have never had any reason to complain.
There have been changes in flight times, there have been delays but these irritations are common to all operators.
Some years ago we had a delay of 26 hours and a change of airport from Glasgow to Manchester with a British carrier.
Add to this a lot of shorter delays again by British carriers.
In earlier years Onur Air cabin staff did appear a little distant but I think this was due to language difficulties as it was a new market for them.
Our latest flight was on 10 June, OHY3618 from Glasgow, was good apart from the 6 drunken male passengers who the cabin staff arranged to have removed on arrival at Dalaman.
The all female cabin staff handled the problem very well.
The return flight on 24th OHY3617 was uneventful and as there were a few vacant seats passengers were allowed to spread out.
I am above average height and a stewardess told me there was a seat with extra legroom available if I wanted it.
Flying Onur Air is not exactly roughing it, the cost of drink/food is easily overcome.
For the price of the flight what can be expected?
They get me to Calis for around 60% of the cost of a European carrier.
Long may they prosper.
-
Used them for past 4 yrs 2 -3 times a year never a problem. What I want is something to get me A-B in one piece, not bothered about the frills. My hols start when I land anyway.Fly Britis Airways for work yes, newer planes, slightly more leg room but still a flying bus !
-
i find onur great to fly with i use them 3/4 times a year

John H, Steve A and Puma I am totally with you. We all know that Stoop has knocked Onur since they began. If he lightened up he could have as many holidays as me :D:D:D

We have plenty of holidays thanks! We used Onur this year by mistake and it was due to price that I booked them. However after the debacle of checking in at both ends and the lack of comfort on the flight we both said we would rather pay an extra £50 each and go with another carrier.

Do Onur not have to take some responsibility for this? If they were drunk at Glasgow they shouldnt have let them on and if they got drunk on the flight they should have stopped serving them! Last time we flew back with Onur 2 Australian guys were sat in the emergency exit row. The staff supplied them with plastic cups and ice throughout the flight so they could drink their duty free purchased at Dalaman! By the time we arrived at Gatwick they couldnt open an eye lid let alone the emergency exit!
-
My guess is they got drunk in the airport - who could afford to get pi££ed on Onur flight at their prices?
On a serious note - you are spot on Hillside. The cabin crew only appear when it's time to sell you something.
-
When we flew out from Glasgow a couple of months ago one guy was drunk and abusive to other passengers. ( TC )
When we arrived at Dalaman we had to sit on the plane for absolutely ages until the police came and took him off. We then got off and when we got through passport control there he was wandering about looking at the shops ! They didn't do a thing !
-
In truth I guess most airline staff turn a blind eye to drunks as it's such a major job to offload them and remove baggage etc. I guess cost comes into it over safety. However at the other end they should be made to suffer. Maybe a fixed penalty fine would deter them. £100 would be a lot of Efes!
-
Hillside & stoop,
These men had been drinking before boarding and throughout the flight they became progressively noisier and rowdier.
They had not been obviously drunk on boarding.
The cabin crew asked them to behave repeatedly but were ignored.
I was seated about a dozen rows in front of them so could not see exactly what was going on although I could hear everything.
I was told later by another passenger that they were drinking their duty free out of sight of the cabin crew.
After these men were told that the police would meet them on landing they quickly quietened down and when led off the aircraft were very subdued.
They were on my return flight and were very quiet.
I believe they each received a 70 lire fixed penalty fine and had some form of endorsement on their visa.
The crew acted correctly in the circumstances and in the best interest of the other passengers.
No blame could be attached to the cabin crew or airline the situation was caused by 6 men who simply did not know how to behave themselves.
-
Stu and I have flown with Onur quite a few times and to be honest it has been cheap and okay, basically we know that the food and drink on board is a ridulous price so dont buy it, we take what we want on board ourselves, I have to say that the crew leave a lot to be desired on the Customer Service front.....but hey its a few hours flight to our favorite place so we can live with it.
We flew with Saga airlines (Turkish) in May, apart from the fact that the plane looked a bit of a knacker!!!!.....the flights were reasonable and the food and drink not as expensive as Onur but the crew were quite nice as well!.......and it was a good flight....
At the end of the day we can talk endlessly on every airline but there will always be something, even the most expensive airlines are not great all the time.
-
I totally agree with you June, its a means to an end.Like everything if you want quality you have to expect to pay for it but a long as the plane lands at Dalaman safe and sound I dont give a monkeys.
-
I also have got to agree with June and John H I have used Onur twice this year and again in September have booked my flights with them for next year saving a whopping £110 on this yeras price, at the end of the day it is about money and you get what you pay for, if you want free drinks films etc then go with the big boys but it will mean you have less money to spend on Efes in a place you love.
:)
-
Here, here, you've hit the nail on the head FT :D A man of my heart :D
-
It never ceases to amaze me just how many "shell-suited, chain-smoking, bling dripping travellers, and their under-age offspring, get tanked up in Glasgow airport and how often I hear last calls for them because they are "having a pint" and are going to damned well finish it before they condescend to board their flight.
Two points though, they are not all Glaswegians, but equally, I am sure that members throughout the country can give identical examples at their airport.
-
Thought it was only Scousers who wore shell suits, they can't afford the Bling tho!

Yes it seems you certainly 'get what you pay for'
:)
-
nah Cheers, we ditched the shellsuits years ago....we just set the trends and the rest of the county follows suit!!!
-
Just thought I'd get it in about us before somebody else did!!

Well due to the demise of Goldtrail I have managed to get my money back from the agent for my cr*p Onur flight which was changed to the middle of the night after they'd taken my money. I now have a great daytime flight, from a more convenient airport with Tompson. Every cloud..............

I had a really good experience with Aegean today. Last night I was frantic as I found that my wife was 'Mr' on the ticket. I spoke to one of the Aegean staff today expecting to pay for new ticket etc and they sorted it out in minutes with no charges. Big relief as I fly tonight.
-
I wont really complain about the prices and seats as others have said cheep and cheerful but I agree with the time changing it has happened to me twice you pay for a good flight time and by the time it gets to holiday time it has changed to ridiculous times I had lunch time flights out and back this year but are now 2125 out 0600 return
-
Totally agree - we were moved from a midday Saturday flight to a middle of the night Friday night. We checked at the airport yesterday and our original flight is still flying today!
-
Had to update my post of 14 July on this subject where I thought I might be tempting fate with the post.
I certainly was.
Our outward flight from Glasgow on 11 September was delayed for ten hours hours and the return flight from Dalaman on 25 September delayed for one and a half hours.
However, the upside is that Aegean Flights/Onur Air did get us to and from a great holiday,a meal voucher was provided at Glasgow, the cabin staff on both flights were excellent, leg room was adequate, the aircraft were clean and looked in good order and our fellow travellers were (as far as I could see)a sober and stoic group.
I am committed to two return flights for 2011 but even if I was not I would still take a chance with Onur Air as a carrier at their present price level.
