Title: Hello for the first time
Post by: dennis on January 02, 2005, 17:45:34 PM
Hello everybody. My name is Dennis and I have just joined having come across the site by accident. I live in Devon and have owned  an apartment in Hisaronu since April 2004.

Does anyone have advice on how to get a cheap flight to Dalaman (if there is sush a thing. It seems that prices are going mad.

I am attempting to learn Turkish via various books but short of moving into my local Kebab shop find it difficult. Any suggestions please.

Dennis

Hello Dennis and welcome.

 Regarding flights
{A Link to an old CBF topic was here - no longer available}3475
if you follow this link Braveheart has just posted lots of links for airflight searches.

There is also a thread on various ways of learning Turkish somewhere, if you use the search button at the top of the page that will help.  There is a lot of good information here and as you have already bought, you will probably have a lot to offer as well.

Hello Dennis. My name's a bit of a giveaway. I've lived in Kaya Koyu since August.

There are plenty of sites offering cheap flights - actually booking one is another matter. You'll find plenty of info on here though. Apparently the first flights into Dalaman direct from the UK this year, will be on 21st March.

Two of the best ways of learning Turkish are with Linguaphone or Rosetta Stone. You can get both by going onto Ebay and entering "Turkish" in the search field. You can also get them from Amazon.

Hi Dennis welcome to the forum. next to Turkey Devon holds a speacial place in my heart, where abouts are you?

I have copied a few links that maybe of interest. Though the Turkish lessons appear quite good, it is not the same as listening to the language, but comes in handy. and a few sites for flights.

Hi Denis,

Unless you stumble across a late-booking or cancellation, I have found that the cheapest flights are on http://www.flythomascook.com/
They allow you to choose what day you leave and what day you return and usually for about £125 e/w (including taxes etc).

Hi Dennis & hi Treacle, as Glennat said you book the days to suit you, so I booked to go out on a Monday & come back on a Saturday so i'm going for 19 days for £161, can't argue with that. Alan

Hi Dennis

Welcome to the forum.  Glad to see we have someone else from Devon.  We are in Exeter and have an apartment in Ovacik. (just bought it and going over to furnish it early April).  Try a1travel.com also for flights and xl.com. (type in Calis in promotional code for a discount).  Thankfully we will be able to fly from Exeter/Bristol from May!

Sorry I can't help you with learning Turkish - I would like to try it myself one day but it seems so difficult.

Best Wishes

Linda  :) and Colin

Hi Dennis, although several members have made suggestions about flights to Dalaman if it is possible for you to do so, it is worth waiting until the two weeks before the departure date. You can be very lucky but it is risky as the prices may not drop at all during that time.
Every time that we go to Turkey we are determined to get really into learning Turkish but we fail. We should make a very serious commitment to spend about one hour each day learning.
Anyway welcome to the forum and we hope you will get as much enjoyment from visiting Turkey and especially the Fethiye area as the rest of us do.
Pete and Sue
