OMG!  That looks frightening.  You never really think anything like that can happen when you're enjoying all the lovely boat trips around the coast.  :o

Yes, especially when the BBQ at the pointy end meets an upturn in breeze.

I was going to say it looks like one of my Koca barbies but thought it might have been deemed bad taste ;)

Well it does:D

I didn't mean it to be amusing. Just watch that video then consider how many of us have been on an almost entirely wooden boat which is tinderbox dry in the Turkish summer sun, watching someone fanning a BBQ at the front of it. In case anyone hasn't seen it, when the wind picks up those little flying flecks of fire can't half travel [:o]

NOT like one of your "koca barbies". A woman lost her life. Show some respect.

NOT the subject for a smillie

I was about 6 miles away and could see the dense smoke coming from the vessel,

The sea conditions were not good with 30knots of wind so I think the Forestry helicopter and the Coastguard did a great job

When we were out on Jerry's boat a couple of weeks ago we all noticed that he had installed a fire fighting hose.  A bit of foresight on his behalf.  I think they should all follow his example.  Mind you, it is probably law that they should have it and only Jerry is complying.

Point taken kaptainkrunchie. Not seen reports of a death yet though. Have they found the missing tourist?

My apologies, you are right it wasn't the right time for a smile.

Like my first post said it looks quite frightening even on a video and absolutely terrifying to be involved in it.

Brianthegardener that video is of the luxury yacht that burned the following day not Kaya 9 that sunk with the loss of a tourist.
It still looks horrific though.

there is no indication that a bbq set the fire it is alleged to have been an electrical fault inside the boat, thereby hampering the exit of the passengers  Horrific.

It was indeed a fault below that caused the fire as told to me by the owner of one of the yatching agencies here in Fethiye, it would seem too that the woman that died was elderly (80) and quite large, thus making it difficult to evacuate her.
