Title: Rubbing Shoulders With the Famous
Post by: Scunner on August 08, 2010, 16:40:27 PM
We saw snooker legend Stephen Hendry in Tesco about an hour ago - he's not a naturally happy looking chap :D

It made me wonder if other members have seen any celebs in their local vicinity  8)

I saw Richard E Grant at a very small Antiques Fair in an Hotel at Kintore, Aberdeenshire.  I found out later that his wife is from Aberdeen and they come and stay with relatives there quite often.    Also saw Tom Baker at a Fair in Perth, he was rivetted to the costume jewellery stand, looking at all the pieces, he had on a light pink coloured suit, so did not blend into the background.

We have had several Northampton Saints Rugby players live in our village including Tim Rodber (phoar) who we used to ask to open the school fete and Marco Gabbiadini (of Derby fame) lived in the village when he moved to the Cobblers, he was good friends with our neighbours who bent over backwards to court his friendship, we mixed quite a lot with him a parties but he was a really arrogant t%%t- horrible bloke. When I grew up in Leeds Ian Mcgeechan was my Georgraphy teacher.

I sat on a table next to Spike Milligan at the Mermaid Hotel in Rye and when we were in Florida we sat at a table in "Pelican Bills" and in piled a load of rowdy blokes. As the night went on we got chatting to them -they were the band Fuel (we had never heard of them) who were celebrating going to number 1 in the charts, they bought us drinks and we asked them to sign a dollar bill for us. A few days later we went bought the album and the dollar bill sits in the front of the CD case. I have to say we absolutely love the album and I have heard a few tracks played on the radio in the UK and although they never made it big in the UK they were big in Australia.

No it faces the prison Ron, we don't have a bay. Something to do with being inland.

The topic is who have you seen in and around your local area, not which famous people have you met :D

Played a round of golf with Jimmy Greaves at a charity day and he was so funny with the comments that he came out with.It was a team event and because he had us all in stitches we came last.

He gave an after dinner speech comparing his life as a footballer to that of the present day mob. After the match down the local for a few pints and a cigarette with the supporters who told him if he played well or was crap.

We see lots of well known faces here in Helensburgh and its home to many Scottish footballers, Managers and piundits. We are also beside the world famous Loch Lomond golf course and some of them use a fabby wee restaurant here in our town, when the Open's on. The set of River City is 8 miles away but scenes are reularly filmed in Helensburgh, so its not unusual to see some of the cast sitting having coffee in a local Cafe.
And of course...there's Me.....maybe notorious rather than famous would suit better!
:D

Steady on Gerry, it was a tongue in cheek comment in a fairly casual topic - I'm sure BM06 didn't mean it as a nasty or personal comment so there really is no need for you to do so. Can I go to bed now :D

It read as a compliment to me Ovacikpeedoff, meaning you were more famous than Jimmy Greaves. Try reading it again and see if you agree.

If it was meant tongue in cheek fine and I apologize. Unfortunately we have had the odd skirmish in the past and I thought it was just another way of having a go at me.

Scunner, hope I did not disturb your sleep too much.

Where I live, Ray Winstone lives just down the road so we see him around alot, so much so that he now recognises my Mum and me and says hello, then I was coming home on the train from work one night and he was on the train with his friends and recognised me and then came and sat with me, then asked if i wanted to go for a drink with them all but I had to turn him down (crazyin i know) because I had to work that night. Im still shocked to this day, Ray to me is a legend, I do love him :0) also see Posh and Becks around a lot when they are in England as there house is just down the road from me also, Becks is brilliant with the locals and will always stop and give people his time. Also i am a huge Sex and the City fan and have been since day 1, so you can imagine my excitment when my family called from Ireland (this was a few years back now) to say that Sarah Jessica Parker and her hubby Matthew Broderick have a house up the glen from my family. I was over a couple of years ago and we went for a big family meal and they were in the same restaurant and ended up joining us, really lovely couple, SJP is extremly tiny in real life! x

My dad opened the first laundrette in Perth in the 60's. One of his customers was Penelope Keith who was a struggling actress at that time. She really flirted with my dad (who was newly single).....strange to think that she could have been my step-mum if my dad had have been interested!

We were invited to a Charity Dinner Dance with the cast of Emmerdale a few years ago in Aberdeen.
I don't watch Emmerdale and did not know who was who.  A small group of people, including us, where invited to pre dinner cocktails with the cast, and the entertainer who was Katherine Jenkins (she is really tiny).  I did recognise Patrick Mower and he was a lovely man to speak to.  I also spoke to Sherrie Hewson and asked her about her face lift, she told me it left her wanting more surgery.  Later at the Dinner the guy hosting the event brought over a man for me to met, his name was Chris, apparently he plays a guy called Eric. He told me he loved Antiques and he used to own and run an Antique Shop in London.  He was very good company.  I think I would have enjoyed the evening more if I knew who everyone was.

I was really chuffed to bump into Tam Dalyell, former 'Father of the House of Commons', at 'Gatport Airwick'. When I attended Bo'ness Academy, (many moons ago), he was my History and English Professor for 3 years, GREAT GUY, (even though he did fall foul of the recent 'expenses scandal'!! Met Adam Faith at an audition in Shaftesbury Avenue, London.  Literally 'Bumped into', (nearly knocked him over,) the late, great Bobby Moore, in Notting Hill Gate, as he came out of a 'Bookies'.
Gordy.

P.S. Laffa, don't you know that it is dangerous to accept sweets, or money therefor from STRANGE men, [:o)]:D
Gordy, LUV YA!!

Many musical theatre stars too but I'm sure they don't count on here.
I was supposed to work with Ewan McGregor as an extra on his film Incendiary in Milton Keynes, sadly it was cancelled due to 'health and safety reasons'

Flight to Paris with Tom Conte & Bob Geldof
Drinks with Alex Higgins in a nightclub about 20 years ago - he fancied my friend but I didn't rrally recognise him but said he looked just like that snooker player on tv.

The lead saxs player in the Jools Holland band, played at my wedding.
