Title: Big club/Bigger club
Post by: Gorgeous_bird on August 15, 2010, 10:39:14 AM
I was shocked/sad to hear that Joe Cole was going to Liverpool - those feelings soon disappeared when he was quoted as saying Liverpool was a bigger club -a right kick in the teeth for Chelsea fans. In the programme at the first match of the season Bruce Buck wrote -"Joe Cole has gone to a small club somewhere up north" -tee hee :D

Good luck to Joe Cole and his big club ;)

Well it is a much bigger club than Chelsea isn't it? More trophies won, bigger crowds and fan base. They don't come much bigger than Liverpool.

Stoop I'm not even suggesting that Chelsea are bigger - I'm simply laughing at Bruce's response to Joe Cole's comment.

It is a kick in the teeth, we all like to think our team is the best but we also know the reality. Unfortunately his new big club were not prepared to pay him his £90,000 a week wage demand and he's paid the same as his old small club. He was a great player for Chelsea, much loved and there were always chants for "get Joe on" when he was on the bench. So when they turn around and say that of course we move on and find a new Joe cole to idolise. The title of the thread was big club/ bigger club not from a big club to a small club.

I think you said it all there... chants "get Joe on"  He was not getting picked and was obviously frustrated and wanted first team football.  I don't blame him for leaving, most Premier League players want to play ever week for their team. ;)

I do know where you are coming from GB, because we were the same when we heard Mascherano wanted to go, saying,no one man is bigger than the club,if he wants out, let him go etc, Joe Cole, has said all the right things and pressed the right buttons with us, so good luck to him and hope he gets the games he deserves,

I agree Laffa, if someone does not want to stay let them go with no hard feelings, life is too short.  I suppose some clubs think they are so big and wonderful that any player will stay, even if he has to sit on the bench.
I hope Joe does well with his  "small club up north" well they have only won 5 European Cups.:D: :)

Don't think he will be on the bench much at Liverpool.

More worrying to me is the loan of Bellamy to Cardiff. Man City have decided to pay him NOT to play for one of their rivals. This 25 man squad limit will see more and more top players being loaned out to lower league clubs I think. It's reported City are going to pay half his £90k a weeks salary.

Not good enough for the squad but too good to be in an opposition's squad - it's a fine line that :D

Bellamy skinned most of the opposition in the Premier division. It will be interesting to see how some of the slower Championship sides deal with him - I fear for his shins !
