I recently noticed in 2 different Uzumlu restaurants meal prices which I consider pretty expensive
One is charging £6.50 for a fry and another £9 for steak and kidney pie.
These prices I feel are quite excessive and certainly more than I would pay for similar fare at home. Any thoughts?
-
Don't forget that meat is at it's highest price since meat began, but yes £9 for a pie does sound ridiculous. My feeling always has been that prices are set by sneaking them up and up while people are still ordering and setting the price when people start commenting on it. That is the rule for a lot more than just restaurant food.
So make your feeling known earlier :)

well to be honest I particulary thought the fry was a rip off as I got an excellent one for 10tl in Calis-where virtually all the places were selling a fry up at around the 10tl price
One I opted for was called Dennis The Menace-I know little about Calis so I await the "you should never have wnet there!" brigade ripping the arse out of my choice!

The problem I have with expensive fry ups is the same as expensive imported spirits. The profit margin is enormous as most of the component parts are brought over from the UK by friends - and if that isn't cheap enough, often they do it as a gift.
Oh, and if you wanted a good fry up you should have gone to...
Blinkers :D
-
100% agree Scunner and the other scam imported beer[?] all the way from Istanbul and Izmir, Miller,Becks,Carlsberg, fosters, etc[:(!] ;)
-
Name and shame, that is one way for them to bring down the price:D
Name and shame them please.

zakkums full breakfast only 6 lira and brilliant 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, toast and chips
-
Three weeks ago Alya Park fry up was 7.5 lira (approx £3.25) which I consider reasonable, 2 sausages, 2 bacon, mushrooms, beans, 2 eggs, toast, tomato. Didn't include tea or coffee but it was yummy especially as nursing a hangover!! Hope the price hasn't increased?
-
Still the same from what we've been told Denise.:D
-
All that talk about fry ups so had to have one today - was excellent and still 7.5ytl so I won't be paying 15ytl for a breakfast as did Saoirse! wherever that was in Uzumlu? Now I don't have to cook today!

Can somebody tell me where these restaurants are? When i got the dolmus to Uzumlu last year, I saw the Winehouse, I walked further up and walked around the village, past a very small childrens playground where there were some goats tied up. I walked back down and up the road opp the Winehouse. I didn't see anything else, where should I have gone? I want to go again this year and don't want to miss anything?
I loved it by the way-I have never in my life been anywhere as tranquil-itceas amazingly quiet-heaven! :)
-
Jenny we did exactly the same the first time we went.
We then went to meet Lynne and her hubby who showed us a totally different Uzumlu.
I'm not sure I'd find half of it again but I'll have fun trying next week
-
I go in 2 weeks Anne, post instructions on here, but only if they are easy! Lol
-
a few good and reasonable places to eat in Uzumlu.....
-
How helpful. What are they called!!!!
-
The Ayla park is on the main road as you enter uzumlu - before the dolmus turns up towards the village. There is a stop opposite one of the petrol stations. The Fesetta is also along this stretch of dual carriageway.
Keep going along the dual carriage way and you will find Cadianda II (next to the irrigation canals and market place).

The Winehouse is just off the village square, (take the right hand lane at the mosque).
If you stand in the village square by the phone boxes there is a lane to the left. You should see an A board which leads to The Grape Garden.
Village square again....stand next to Ramazan the Barbers and look towards the mosque - to the left you will see another restaurant (set above the public toilets !). i can't remember the Turkish name but it translates to waterfall as it has a water feature in the garden !

Pookie, if I stand with my back to Winehouse, where do I go from there to find the village square? I walked round, but must have missed everything? Am coming over next week for 10 days and want to visit Uzumlu again, and miss nothing! :)

At the winehouse door (facing away from the door !), turn left and you are virtually at the village square. See a large tree in the middle of the road (yes, they built the road around the tree !)...the yellow mosque is on your right. This is the edge of the village square. You will see a row of tea houses lining one edge and lots of men playing the obligatory games....

Down hill from the Wine House to square. Take first left (tree is on your right)from the square and you will find the Grape Garden 2 houses along this lane.
The rest of the restaurants, Fesetta, Alya Park & Cadianda are along the dual carriageway, not in the village center.
Have fun exploring the little back roads and you'll find the ladies of the village weaving the beautiful Dastar.
Have fun exploring our wonderful little village.

Thanks all for the info. I loved it last time, I have never been anywhere in my life so quiet and serene, I think think I missed the square as maybe the dolmus drove past it and I tended to walk up the hill and not down?
Maybe if I posted on here the day I am coming someone would fancy giving me a tour? :-\

If you do fancy having a meal (or even just a cuppa) do go and have a look at the 'restaurant above the public loos'. It's in the square, stand in the middle of the square facing the mosque and there are steps to the side of the loos' which are on your left. The setting is lovely, there is a little water feature and their apple (elma) pide is delicious. Just like apple strudel. Very green, very quiet and very, very nice people.
-
Jenny, the dolmus from Fethiye drops you off in the square.

Totally agree a little oasis. :)

I am sure you are all right.
Just "restaurant above the public loos" puts me entirely off the idea :-\

:D:D I thought that too keith, but you soon forget where you are (especially after a raki or two !!)
