You should see our news in Scotland. They are calling it "The Battle of Britain"
:D :o

If you look at the possibility of Rangers teams being capable of beating Manchester United over the the last 10 years, 2010 is in 10th place for likelihood. They have never had a worse chance :)

They will win then ;)
-
Well, on current form they should do. I watched them thrash mighty Hamilton 2-1 on Saturday.
-
I will be listening to Barnsley v Leeds anyway. Nearly 7,000 Leeds fans have tickets for this one so should be a good night. First of 3 derbies in a row.
-
Please keep on topic stoop!
-
Yes Stoop this is Champions League. Please start a new topic to discuss minor league.
-
4-0 to united and ive put £10 on a rooney hatrick at 14/1
:)
-
OK - it's the football forum - so why are you discussing a Scottish team??

Watch and learn mate ...lol

Going to the game, I must say though that performance on Saturday will give Rangers confidence, we should win though. Rangers don't look to be as good as Everton although I wish we had Cahil. Sometimes you need a scrapper and he has to be the best scrapper in the the game.
-
no doubt rooney should score?
-
He did during the Everton match
-
It will only cost Rooney £3,000 to score three times....
Good bet at 14/1
-
What would Rooney have been if he had not been a very talented and very rich footballer?
Answer... A Virgin.
-
That's peter crouches line, scouse lad growing up in Liverpool, he would have been a very ordinary bloke without footy. Did anyone see the blow up doll flying around the ground on Saturday.
-
Rubbish game, if that's the cream of Scottish football then the cream has gone off. How on earth anyone can celebrate negative boring football is beyond me. Even Leeds Utd, a div 3 team had a go, and won! Last year. Fergie should have put the academy team out as Rangers had no intention of actually playing to win.
Talk of Rangers and Celtic coming to the Premier league, no thanks, try Coca Cola league 1.
-
That's probably your most blinkered post yet JC - and there's been more than a few.
-
Well! Man Utd 0 Rangers 0, maybe Rooney should have worn a kilt, might have seen more action.:D:D:D

Surely it's up to the home manager to send out his strongest team and attempt to win the game. What I saw in the last 20 mins I caught was a team, at home, playing like they didn't have a clue how to break down a team from a second rate footballing nation (maybe a bit generous there)
Ferguson saying that most of them started in the Charity Shield hardly instills confidence. Obviously he thought his second string were good enough to beat another Champions League team and he played it like it was a Carling Cup game.
No wonder he expects flak!
-
Look, I pay good money to watch two teams play football, only one appeared to be playing to win last night. This is the Champions League we are talking about, it's supposed to be the best. You are supposed to be drooling over this player or that player not groaning at the game.
Look at the Spurs result, a draw, a very entertaining draw, both teams had a go, both side went home feeling that they could have won. I want to watch good entertaining football and I should be able to see it in the Champions League after all it's supposed to be the best club competition in the world.
I expect to see that sort of game in our own League, from time to time, it's rubbish but I have to accept it, but come on, this is a showcase for your League. I just feel ripped off when teams come and don't play.
-
Oh Dear, think someone lost some money on a bet last night.
If Rangers where such "off cream" and "rubbish" why didn't Man U score? Rangers played a defensive game, they had to as Man U where pushing forward all the time, I think Rangers did well to hold them off and I don't agree it was not a strong Man U team. Fergie put out a team he thought could beat Rangers and he does know his footballing stuff.
Of course, in the second game Man U will win, but don't take it away from Rangers they did well to come away with a 0-0 score, when you consider they play lesser teams every week in the Scottish League, the only practice they get at playing a good team is when they play Celtic. However, had to admire the support they got from their fans, even at Old Trafford you could hear the Rangers supporters.. The Man U fans where very muted.
-
If "one was playing to win", they should have played their strongest team. They didn't and as Stoop said were enirely clueless as to how to break them down. A 30 yard wonder goal from Gibson being the only way they could come up with (again and AGAIN).
You would think that Rangers were the first club to pack their defence to get something (a point) out of an away game. Champions of Europe in waiting generally find a way through. Fergie KNEW what the Rangers game plan would be and still couldn't pick a team to beat it. I bet he won't pick a similar line-up at Ibrox.
And as for your comment "Fergie should have put the academy team out as Rangers had no intention of actually playing to win" - based on what I saw, if he had, Rangers would probably have beaten them.
-
From Fergie - BBC website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/8993825.stm
Ferguson laments lack of creativity
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said he expected criticism after a side with 10 changes failed to beat Rangers in the Champions League.
Only Darren Fletcher retained his place from the team that had drawn with Everton three days earlier.
"The criticism will be why didn't I play a stronger team," said Ferguson.
"I played a very strong team. Eight of them played in the Charity Shield. It's a terrific squad of players we have and there was no problem playing them."
Ferguson, whose side host fierce rivals Liverpool on Sunday, admitted that not putting in-form striker Dimitar Berbatov on the bench for the Rangers game may have been a mistake.

Win your home games and draw away and you go through. Walter 1 Fergie 0 after 1 game :)

i lost money on a bet last night ..but oh well worse things happen ....bring on liverpool ! Lol

That's the point, Utd were relatively weak therefore we could have been beaten, but the other team did not want the win. Even if the academy team had have been playing Rangers set up was not to lose, I just don't see how you give credit to that style of football, not for 90 minutes anyway.
The Rangers fans were no different to the other smaller clubs of Europe, it's a big day out, they make lots of noise and no one understands what they are on about anyway. Utd fans tend to 'be up for it.' In the big games, Rangers at home is not a big game anymore, and Celtic a good team your having a laugh.
The Everton game last week is a perfect example, what is wrong with trying to win a game, how crap do you have to be to have to defend for 90 odd minutes, I applaud Everton, are you telling me that the champions of Scotland are better than Everton! No chance. Look at the two games and please don't tell me that the Rangers game was better, you would have to have some huge anti Man U blinkers on to appreciate a boring 0.0.

Saves me writing it all again

I'll answer it for you, I prefer the Everton draw as the football was entertaining and enjoyable throughout the game, and yes looking back at both games Everton are better than the Champions of Scotland.
-
Everton scraped a home draw while Rangers got exactly what they planned to get, away from home. As Stoop says - Champions League, win your home games, draw your away games, go through. Which bit is puzzling you? Rangers at this time will prefer to go through rather than entertain. They need the money. It's very simple.

I found the man u game entertaining:D

I think I have to say a word for Scotland and Scottish Football as you speak about it like Scotland is on another planet. You say you don't know what the Rangers supporters are about? It's simple, they are just British supporters who want their team to do well.
Firstly, Scotland has a very small population just over 5 million people which is only double the population of Manchester. Taking into consideration these facts, Scotland has produced some of the finest British Footballers and Managers. It's unfortunate that the majority of Scottish Football teams cannot, now, keep there best players who are spirited off the England for mega wages when they show any talent.
Ask Alex Feruguson what Rangers are about he played for them, he also Managed Aberdeen enabling them to win two European Trophies. Of course, in the days when the big wages where not about a Scottish Team, Celtic, was the first British Team to win the European Cup.
Yes, English Football has a lot to thank Scotland for, just where would M.U. be now without their Scottish Manager who they seem never to want to loose?
All this from a Scouser who is proud to live in such a lovely Country. [^] :)
-
I could not give hoot about Scottish football, Rangers and Celtic are just not up to it, and Fergie, along with a good many others, played in a time when Scottish football WAS a force. By the way exactly which Scottish footballers have been spirited away to England, the best you had went to Russia!
Believe me I'm not anti Scottish I am anti get 10 men behind the ball for 90 mins, whoever that may be. Dress it up any way you like but Rangers, as opposed to Rooney, could not score in a brothel let alone the theatre of dreams.
Four thousand Rangers fans sung their hearts out last night and supported their team, great. Two years ago 125,000 Rangers fans trashed Manchester and left it looking and smelling like a sewer. I find it a bit rich that some scouser living in Scotland wants to lecture me on knowing what the Rangers fans are about. We already know!
-
Sorry McGeady is Irish, you don't have any good players anymore.

well said jacqui :D

It won't belong before Neville and Scholes hang up their boots. Then which good players from Manchester will Manchester United have? Or is that different?
I'm not anti-Man U, far from it. I'm anti-javacoffee, a man so biased he can't see any opinion but his own.
-
My opinion is that the game Rangers play is boring and negative, nothing has changed, your the ones that keep adding nonsense here and there. What has Neville and Scholes got to do with last night, just waffle on and get personal if someone does not agree with your slant on the world in general.
Roddy Forsyth on 606 last night said, " It wasn't pretty but it did the job. Was it attractive? No! Will it get Rangers, or for that matter Scottish football, out of their current mire? No. Something has to be done." Mr. Forsyth is a very well respected Scottish Journalist, I wonder if he is as biased as I am.
How very dare me for having an opinion that you don't like.

What has Aiden McGeady or Scotland having no good players got to do with last night? This is like trying to debate with an idiot!
-
Keep up, the McGeady comment was a mistake made in repost to the scouser lady claiming that England had nicked all the Scottish talent, good one. I thought he was Scottish, heaven forbid I was wrong. I would have liked to debate the merits of having 10 men behind the ball for 90 minutes, but looking back through the posts there are no merits to playing boring negative football.
Idiot! you must have been looking in the mirror prior to posting that one oh great one.

He's ruined what could have been a good debate, let's call it a day here.
