Understanding Easyjet's charges for hold baggage is complex at the best of times but here is one interesting fact that may help couples. 2 people travelling together can add a suitcase each up to 20kg for £36 total (2 x £18 based on a return journey).
but
One couple checking in just one bag are allowed up to 32kg for that bag and the price is then 1 x £18. Again based on a return journey So you only lose 8Kg overall between you but the cost is halved. Could be useful info for couples travelling who need to check some luggage in.
Cue all the "blimey didn't you know that" replies from people who didn't know that:D
Could save someone enough to get 2x 1 Litre of Smirnoff at Duty Free ;)

I've overspent on hold luggage with Easyjet so often in the past. 6 of us are travelling on Friday and I've booked 3 bags. Originally thought that gave us 60kg but infact it is 96kg! 3 bags at the maximum of 32kg. Apparantly each passedger is entitled to 20KG each - BUT you have to pay per bag to put that allowance in the hold (max 32kg per bag) . Taken with easyjets no weight limit on hand luggage it makes it a good offering.
-
That's right, 32kg between each combined set of 2 passengers. Mind you, I wouldn't fancy my chances much with a 31Kg bag checking in at Dalaman, pointing at my confirmation sheet [:o]
-
I have just booked 3 flights for the 2 of us next year with just one bag (20kgs) on each flight.
I read the same 32kgs reference when booking the luggage but concluded the 20 kgs was what I was paying for and that the extra 12 kgs was available (if paid for) - although it does not say that.
I thought the 32 kgs was referred to as this is the maximum weight allowed for lifting / health & safety reasons for any case on most - if not all airlines.
If it is a "free" 12 kgs I would like to know for sure :)
-
On our recent trip, T.C wanted a huge £35 per 20kg case. No way was I spending £70 for 2 cases. You couldn't imagine how little I took on holiday so that we only checked in 1 case. And I still came home with 1 top and 1 pr trousers I didn't wear!! 32kg would have meant I just took more shoes LOL
:D

I just told you for sure :P
Yes it is because the maximum weight you can check in is 32Kg that the combined weight of two people's allowances (in ONE bag) is not 40kg, but 32Kg.

I'll let you know for sure after Friday :D. The email confirmation clearly states 6 passengers,3 bags with a combined weight of 96KG. When 2 of us went to Istanbul in March I booked one bag and the confirmation said 'combined weight of 32KG. I thought it was a mis print and struggled to keep the bag down to 20KG but now I understand how it works we could have taken 32KG
-
I mustn't weigh more than 32 kgs because of Elfin Safety.
-
At Heathrow the check in belts simply won't function if the suitcase sitting on it exceeds 32Kg. It's the most hi-tech way I've lost sausages I can tell you.
-
Hillside - I will wait for your update - good luck :D

confused.com here Toky - it's now £ 20.00 return.

Yes, H, that is what we pay from Aberdeen too. I fill my case then weigh my husbands, which is usually about 12 kilos so I fill his up to 20 kilos too. He thinks because we keep clothes in Calis we don't need to bring much out, but he does not understand that I cannot keep wear the same clothes every time I go on holiday.
-
That's what I have paid in the past too Highlander. I was shocked and wondered if it was because it was a late booking. I have the paperwork to prove it. I couldn't believe it!

Flew out with EJ in Sept and had to pre-pay for extra 6 kilos
20kgs already booked and added another 6kgs total weight 26kg
charged extra !!!!!!
I think Ian may be right in that 32 kgs is the maximum you can take in one bag but you ?pay for the further 12kgs Anyway hope things work out ;)
-
Book it and see! Even make a pretend booking for 2 and add one bag and see what the cost is and what the maximum weight is. Once again I DO know that 32kg is the maximum weight you can take in one bag. That is why 2 people with one bag can't take more than 32kg!!!
You were charged for your extra 6Kg I assume because I am talking about 2 people with one bag (32kg max) and you were one person with one bag to check in (20Kg max).
Two people can pay for just one bag, which can be any weight up to 32Kg maximum.
-
Sorry doh got carried away you are quite right and that was why I paid xtra :-\
-
Easyjet are incredibly confusing when it comes to baggage. The stupid thing is that two people paying for two bags only get 40Kg together (20kg each) - so for half the price you can take 32kg in one bag between you. Also it looks like you can pay for as many bags as you like - six for example. Problem is, you pay a huge amount but if there aren't 6 people, you are paying for bags only - i.e. you don't get 6 x 20kg, you still get 20kg which can be spread across 6 bags!

We've booked with Easyjet for half term week at the end of October, flying out of Stanstead. We were only going to bring hand luggage, but decided to bring one case with us - yes £18 for 32 kg! Bargain!!
We booked the car park through Easyjet's website too - £29 for the week. :)
Our third bargain with them was a BOGOF on the VIP airport lounge. Think it's cost us £17 for both of us (waiter service) for up to 3 hours, all food and drink included, plus papers, magazines, wifi access etc!!! We'll be at Stanstead at 9.30am after a four hour drive. We'll both be VERY hungry and thirsty by then! We should get our moneys-worth!!! (It might be a little early for beer/wines though! I did say "might"!!!) :D
Just hope there's no delays or cancellations now - I'm looking forward to the VIP lounge!!

Believe me now Ian? :D
-
yes it is 32kg for one suitcase between 2 people as we did this last month and was told at check in at manchester that we were allowed 32kg . we didnt realise and had only packed 20kg.
-
We have booked T.C. for next year and the cases are £20.00 each. Think you should ask for a recount Toky.
-
I am now wondering if the booking agent has made a killing from this Jacqui as we only paid £20 in May.
-
Keith - I think I believe you on the basis that if I get charged £120 for my extra 12 kgs I can send the invoice to CBF ;)
I still think the way Easy this and Easy that (car in particular) make money out of you on the extras this is too good to be true :D
-
I booked mine and used the 1 bag @ 32kgs, As you say if you put 2 bags you only get an extra 8kg.
Bizzar but true. :)
The robbin gits get it back on the visa charges though. I paid about £28 visa charge for about £880 in flights.:(
-
We sussed that,1 bag for two people= 32 Kgs,we've booked and received confirmation,
How long before Easy change the rules??
-
Actually, I've booked a single trip with Easyjet for a couple of weeks and the carry on has a limit of 5kilo. Check your tickets.
-
My latest ticket contains a link to hand baggage conditions and there it reads "No weight restriction applies within reasonable limits — i.e. a passenger must be able to place the piece of luggage safely in the overhead storage bins without assistance."
No mention of 5Kg anywhere...
-
Their website says no restriction on hand luggage?
-
you know, I've just looked at thoer site and it does say no limit. where did I read that? Perhaps it's the return carrier....? Thanks.
-
definately no weight limit with hand luggage. but it must be of a certain size.
-
The last Easyjet flight I was on showed me they aren't joking about the no weight limit but you must be able to lift it into the overhead lockers yourself rule. A girl asked one of the flight attendants if she would help her put her bag up there because she had hurt her shoulder. The flight attendant gave her a full requote of the rule and was certainly not looking like she was in any rush to come over to help. Luckily I was standing close by and saw it as my duty to put the bag up into the locker for the very pretty young lady :D

Forever the gentleman ;)

No time at all - it changed on 8 October 10. Any booking made after that date will only have 20KG per person per bag. 1 person/1 bag 20kg. 2 people/1 bag 20KG. 2 people/2bags 40KG. That came from the check in staff at Stansted on 8 October. Any bookings made before that date will honour the 2 people/1 bag 32KG allowance!
-
3 flights booked - all with 32kgs - very happy :D:D
