Title: The Digturk Sting
Post by: tinkerman on October 25, 2010, 16:13:41 PM
I cancelled Digiturk last December, had a letter in Februaury saying nothing was owing.
Had a letter last week saying Januarys payment was missed will i send 103.99 plus 34.65 interest plus 6.24 kdv, this letter comes from their lawyer, so when I phone up to make payment they want another 100 lira to cover lawyer fees = 290 lira:(
Go to Kredi Bank and make payment, they wany 35 commission for sending the payment:(:(

I then went to see Ayshe at Finans who did the cah transfer for nothing :) job done!

Digiturk and Kredibank are same company, I took all the paper work to my lawyer before paying anything as I had had no corespondence from them regarding the missing payment, they didnt care and would not back down.

Moral of the story is don't miss a payment to Digiturk[:(!]

This may sound daft Andy, ;) but if you cancelled in December[?] how can you owe a payment in January[?]

..and if you had the letter in February saying nothing was owing I would have told them to get on their bike - especially if they are asking for January when you cancelled in December.

Only thing is - like Sky - they may have a 30 day notice period meaning January would have had to be paid if you told them in December.

Exactly right Stoop, 30 day notice required which I knew at the time, I think I may have actually paid the final payment in the digiturk shop in Fethiye when I handed in the accessories but cant find a reciept.
Telling them to get on there bike is difficult when you are told the bill is increasing daily and you have a lawyers letter in your hand.

Had a similar experience last year when we changed our TV system.  They tried to charge us for the Digiturk boxes as we had not returned them.  We never received any correspondence about the boxes and had to argue with Digiturk shop to return them!

Moral of this is not to have Digiturk in the 1st place!

Agreed Tinx - especially if you have no proof of the final payment.

Never mind - get to a bar tonight and watch Leeds v Cardiff. Should be a good game and I think we might win 2-1 or get totally stuffed.

We had a problem with Digiturk 3 years ago, for some reason they never took the payment for June 2007, I went into Fethiye and paid using my card, they tried it 3 times, 3rd time it worked and I got a receipt, went over to Gima and the card would not, bank advised card fraud error, and payments not taken, so back to the shop and paid in cash (all in one day!).  The girl in Digiturk shop phoned HQ to confirm payment and I left thinking all was ok.
I heard nothing for 3 months then constant phone calls and letters requesting payments, I copied bank statements and cash receipt confirming payment, lots of aggressive phone calls requesting the June payment, eventually I caved in and paid again (65TL).

The best one yet was our neighbours Digiturk, we purchased our properties at the same time, and as he didn't have a phone they used my details for contact yet he signed and showed his passport in his own right, when he died 18months later they decided to chase me for the 3 months missing payments! They would not have it that he was dead and threatened me with legal action, I told them to go for it, they then asked for Notarised proof that my neighbour was dead and that I was not responsible for the debt.  All this at my expense, told them to try again and get the money from Mr ?.  I ensured I gave them the correct Turkish address, date of birth and next of kins address in the UK. never heard another word, not even an apology.

We cancelled our Digiturk in February 2009, if they are strapped for cash no doubt there will be another letter for us on our return.
:(

Things are certainly richer these days. I briefly had Digiturk and when I cancelled they were quite easy to deal with. The only problem was that when I returned the box and remote they pursued me relentlessly for the scart lead (which I hadn't even thought about). To prevent it ending in court, I dropped it off to them  :)

Just had a call from Digiturk, saying I owe just under 200TL, and that I was to go to their office in Mugla. I told them that I cannot owe them any money as I always paid a years subcription in advance, the last one being for 507TL in Jan 2009.We were told that by paying for a years service, we would get 13 months for the price of 12.We cancelled this contract at the beginning of Jan 2010, and took the box back to Digiturk. The guy refused to accept it and told us to bring it back in 3 weeks time, which we did.
We were given a phone number to call, and I told the customer service person that I had my contract for the previous year and the receipt for the digibox that was returned. He told me that he could not see a problem with my account on his system.
So are DODGYTURK just trying their luck?
By the way has anyone else NOT had a letter saying that they owe money? or is everyone just being phoned to tell them they owe money?

Have been told that in the small print it states that you must cancel your contract in the same month as you take it out,if not you will have to pay up to that month. The lawyer came to collect ours which ended up at 286tl he was the one that told us of that little scam. Also be aware if not paid you could be stopped from leaving the country and picked up from the airport and straight to Jandarm, another little gem from the lawyer.

PKH You could get satelite tv such as Nilesat.  It cost me 300tl to have installed, one off payment and it doesn't keep disappearing like Thor.  Film channels, news, Dubai TV and loads others.  About 700 channels in all.

Just had a call from a firm of solicitors acting for digiturk. They are now demanding 165TL,(at first she said 1065TL but that may have been lost in translation) saying that this is an outstanding fee.I have received no written communication from digiturk or the solicitors.
I paid on 16th January 2009 the sum of 507TL for the complete years subscription. I cancelled digiturk at the beginning of Jan 2010, but was told I could not send the box back until the beginning of Feb as you have to give 1 months notice. Was I given misinformation that if you pay 1 year in advance you receive 1 extra month free?
I spoke to someone in customer service in November when this saga started and was told that there was nothing on the system to say that there were outstanding monies owed. Now it appears that I did owe money, or so they say!!
