As of next monday APD as it is known will in some cases increase by up to 55%.The simple basic scale is 1 0 miles to 2000..up 9%
2 2001 " " 4000..up33%
3 4001 " " 6000..up50%
4 6000 " plus ..up55%.This is per seat not per total cost.
-
Yes, just it saw on T.V. this morning that a family of four going to Florida would pay an extra £240.00. This Government is trying to squeeze every last penny they can from us.:(
-
jesus ...thats insane!
-
Do we have to pay extra if we have already paid in full for our flights??
What if we have booked a package deal and only paid deposit, can they now charge us extra???
A bit concerning....

You will have to read the small print in your terms and conditions. Some will g/tee the price if you have paid in advance but I'm not so sure about deposit bookings.
So small print is so important I guess.
Aegean for example:
Prices: Prices shown on our websites and our advertising are subject to change without prior notice but are fixed at the time of booking and will generally not be subject to surcharges. The price of your travel arrangements is subject to surcharges for increases in transportation costs (e.g. fuel). Another exception to this is an increase in costs arising as a result of any government action including but not limited to new or increased taxes such as VAT. Even in this case we will absorb an amount equivalent to 2% of the holiday price, which excludes any amendment charges. Only amounts in excess of this 2% will be surcharged, but, when a surcharge is payable, an administration charge of £5.00 per person together with an amount to cover travel agent's commission (if applicable) will be added. If this means that you have to pay more than 10% of the holiday price you will be entitled to cancel your holiday with a full refund of all moneys paid except for any amendment charge. Should you decide to cancel because of this, you must exercise your right to do so within fourteen days from the date we advised you or your travel agent of the amount due.
and this is from a company that we have booked to go down under with in January:
3.OUR GUARANTEE ON PRICE
We guarantee that the price of your holiday will not be subject to any surcharges. This means that you are fully protected, no matter what happens to the price of fuel or variations in the exchange rate for currency. Once a contract exists between us, then the cost of your holiday cannot be increased. Whilst we reserve the right to change prices from time to time, any changes will be confirmed to you before you make your booking. The price of your holiday as shown on your confirmation invoice will not be increased unless you amend your booking.
-
Thanks...
i will have to read the terms and conditions on our bookings, as we have paid in full with Easyjet for May 2011, but have only paid a deposit for an AI holiday Sept 2011....
Hopefully no more to pay..
-
Tax you more, every way you turn for the 48 weeks when you are working, and the other 4, when you try to escape for a holiday. Yes folks, the Tories are back in. Well done to all that voted for them!
-
Agreed, Keith, The Muppett Show is on the road again, only it ain't 'kin' funny, unless you're loaded! Now,THERE are the REAL clowns in the circus that has become British politics.
Gordy.
-
Indeed Gordon....and as Keith says ' you know who you are'.....well done..Not...
-
You can't bash the Tories for this one - it was the last chancellor (Mr Darling) that put them into force!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2009/apr/26/flights-tax-budget-increase
Blame Labour for getting us into this mess we are in. Oh - and your dear Gordon doubled - yes DOUBLED this tax in 2007! However look at the cost then and what they have put it up to now!
2007 after the increase:
The duty has risen to:
* Economy class flights in Europe, internal UK flights - £10
* Business and first class flights in Europe - £20
* Economy class long-haul flights - £40
* Business and first class long-haul flights - £80
It was a cash cow for Labour and the Tories are taking the blame?
-
It is convenient when you can blame the previous government for some of the new taxes. It makes adding your own a little easier to do.
-
Well they soon canceled the loan to Corus/tata steel Co in Sheffield, so why not the additional Tax on flights:-\ but I guest that did not suit the Condems, Fickle ;)

Well when the previous government left things in such a mess what do you expect?
January we have VAT up to 20% - Labour decision. We have seen NI contribution (a stealth tax on jobs) rise from 10% to 11% (a ten percent increase)a 50% tax rate on high earners. We pay more council tax more tax on petrol, cigs and booze. All under Labour!
Oh - and don't forget what the flight taxes were before labour doubled them in 1997!
-
Dont start me off on this one stoop, i,ll never forgive Blair and Brown for what they did to the country.
-
It's OK Des - Let rip mate!
-
it's like blaming Roy Hodgson for the state of Liverpool FC
-
And the last Labour Governments got the UK into a really great state, well I suppose some might think nearly bankrupting the country was a good legacy.....[:(!]: :)
-
That Captain John will start an arguement in an empty room!
;)
-
Is this about flights????? or the misguided views of a minority??
use it or lock it.
-
Wooooooooooooo!
-
I think it may be the views of the Majority, one thing I'll NEVER forgive is Brown stealing the pension funds
-
Under Labour the UK's borrowing has risen to 53% of GDP. That means we are using 53% of the country's income to pay back the loans which leaves 47% to run the country. The country has to tighten its belt, just the same as any household would have to do in the same situation, and increase income somehow to pay the bills. It is going to be a tough 5-10 years to sort this mess out but imagine if Labour had remained in power, more and more borrowing would have meant the UK would have been bankrupt. The public should remember who caused this hardship, Labour not the Coalition. The Coalition have to sort this mess out and get the country back on its feet.
An additional point; no doubt we will hear the chant soon of the Tories bashing the Unions again. I would just like to say that in 32 years of being a member of the Fire Brigades Union (considered radical by some newspapers) I had to go on strike only twice, and each time it was against a Labour Government. Under Tory Governments talks and debates solved the problems to both sides satisfaction. In fact it was the Tories who gave us a pay formula which worked well, for both sides, for 25 yrs, Labour came to power and scrapped that deal and straight away became confrontational! Give me the Tories every time!

Is there never a moderator on when you want one???
-
Barry as it was Scunner (the owner of this site) who turned this topic into a political subject, I wish you luck. If you don't like reading what's being said just don't bother looking at the posts.
-
Barry, why don't YOU make a comment instead of just complaining about it going off topic. 8) Put up or shut up. ;)
When a topic is about increased taxes it is always going to be political. What do you expect people to say? That... "it is very nice, I am glad I have to pay more, this tax is for the best....."?
-
I made a comment....
Do you know there's a power cut tomorrow in Calis and Fethiye?
6am till 1pm.
-
Actually it was two questions and a statement in two postings.[?]
So this is now the third topic on the power cut tomorrow:-\[xx(][|)][|)][|)]

Isn't it strange that the only time I've ever heard ANY Tories bleating & crying into their champers, is when it was announced that Child Benefit was going to be axed for those earning over £43,875 a year, affecting probably more Tories than others. Correct me if you can prove me wrong. But, read on;
Chancellor George Osborne insists using the tax system is the simplest way to recoup the benefit, saving about £2.5bn from the welfare bill from 2013 onwards.
But the method of recovery will require taxpayers to submit annual paperwork, new HM Revenue and Customs tax codes, and a change in the law to cover parents who separate or live apart.
Higher-rate taxpayers will need to tick an "honesty box" on their tax return stating whether they or their partner have received child benefit in the past year, and will be fined if the information provided is incorrect.
Aye, right, a BLOODY "HONESTY BOX", ----------- in the immortal words of "Jim Royle"; MY ARSE.
I think that anyone earning £40,000 plus has got a bloody hard neck holding out their hands for more!!
Any way, your lot won't be in power in 10 years time, or 6. The Lib Dems are wising up to Camerons lies already.
Gordy. [:(!][:(!]

Quote Gordy
"Any way, your lot won't be in power in 10 years time, or 6."
No they'll have sorted out the mess your lot left and then when the country is back in the black, in 6 or 10 years, your lot can b*gger it up yet again....At least we all know they are good at that as history shows! [:(!]: :)
-
Thanks John, (I think). I choose not to reveal myself incase I too get deported & have Porky Pies told about me!!
I really, really am a LOVELY guy, I just HATE CONSERVATIVES!!
Gordy, : :):D:D
As far as your mis-guided loyalty goes, firo, just who will your paymasters rip-off once they have raped the country like that other bitch did? All that will be left with anything worth pinching will be their own kind = YOU!!!! Do the Math, you & your ilk will be the only people left with anything, except, just maybe, a CONSCIENCE!!
-
Well at least I don't have to resort to personal attacks like you have. You must be really desperate as well as extremely rude.
Can't you cope with a debate without becoming personal...obviously not.
[:(!]:(:-\
-
Hurray, GordanA:D:D at least you have not fallen for the lies put about by the tories, their ally the Murdoch papers etc.and heavily subsidised by that well known payer of english taxes Lord? Ashcroft. to Stoop,Firo etc whatever your politics are the Crisis we are now in was started by those stalwarts of free enterprise THE BANKS, we the taxpayers are being asked to bail out their collective bad debts built up because of their greed[:(!][?]. However because of the stupidity of the british voters :o we will now be subjected to another dose of the caring conservatives(not)a la the 80's, oh to have £30 million or to be the beneficiary of the Osborne trust fund (£4million per year) :o[:(!]. Keep up the good work GordanA.[^]
-
Why bother calling any of the political parties they are all the same
They all earn good money paid by us,no price rises affect them.
Cons, lab, libs just the normal working man. I can't say to any of them to keep the good work up.All in the same pot.
-
Well one thing is for certain - we can all thank the lovely Mr Brown for raiding our pension funds.
..and Mr Blair for the lies about Iraq and going into two wars that have cost so much we are now going to see soldiers, sailors and airmen/women lose their jobs. Yes the Tories voted with him but it was the Labour government who massaged the facts.
Thank you Labour you have done us proud once again.
As for Lady T - she broke the RED unions and I thank her for that with all my heart.

Actually the Tories were not the minority and this is a topic about tax on flights which has opened the debate up a little. You can always ignore the topic if it upsets you so much :)

Think your going a little over the top there Gordy, being a bit to personal:-\ you will see when we lose the great lady(not a bitch)she will have a state funeral,an honour only given to one other prime minister, another great conservative. mr blair will more than likely be laid to rest in america alongside his sugardaddy Bush. ;)[^

Just read this in the guardian online:
"A similar anomaly arises when comparing the price of a holiday to Turkey to a holiday to Egypt. Turkey falls into Band A, while Egypt is classed as Band B. This means a family of four travelling in economy class to Turkey will pay £48 APD compared with £240 APD for the same family to travel to Egypt - an increase of £192 in tax alone."
Also this seems promising in the mail online:
What happens if I already have a flight booked? Will I be charged extra?
You already have been. If you are flying after November 1, the extra tax will have already been added on to your bill.

Thank goodness for that Ian, we are off to Australia in December,... So I hope you are correct ;)

Really over the top and rude especially as the clown has never, as far as I know, met Firo. Surprised no moderator commented on it.
-
Oh, yes, Des, Winston Churchill, Quote; "another great conservative".
This was the very same guy who "crossed the floor of the house" to take up position with the opposition whenever it suited him. The same guy, who, as Home Secretary under LIBERAL leader Sir Herbert Asquith, orered British troops to open fire on striking miners in the Welsh village of Tonypandy, killing 2 & wounding many more, thus creating a further riot.
STOOP; wars that cost so much??:
The same guy who, as 1st Lord of the Admiralty, did NOT feel that Germany could be defeated in France, so, decided to launch a campaign in Turkey, in 1915, ordering the ill-fated invasion of Gallipoli, which was an utter disaster, resulting in the deaths of over 392,000 soldiers. The very same guy who was rather keen to use poison gas against tribes rebelling against British rule in the former Ottoman Empire. Defended the brutal tactics of the Paramilitary. "Black & Tans" Police Force in Ireland. Ad Infinitum!!
If that is your opinion of greatness, my friends, so sad.
Gordy.
I rest my case!!
-
Gordon your statistics are fine, but the point i and other people are making is your personal and rudeness comments. Capitals is shouting at people, everyone has their own opinions and beleifs ln politics and other topics, yes i am a conservative, but to say you hate me when you have never met me i find quite insulting. CBF is a great forum for discussion and a good bit of banter and humour. so lets get back to good old fashioned chat eh,Regards your friend Des.:D:D

Back on topic booked with easyjet last week for april no mention of tax incresess so read there T's and C's and thought that this might be of use
Any taxes or charges imposed by Government or other authority, including the operator of an airport, which we are obliged to collect from you or pay in respect of you and your Flight may be payable by you to us in addition to the Fare. At the time you make a reservation you will be advised of the total amount of such taxes and charges not included in the Fare and payable by you. Such taxes and charges imposed on air travel are constantly changing and can be imposed after the date that your reservation has been confirmed. If any such tax or charge is introduced or increased after the reservation was made you will be obliged to pay it prior to departure. Failure to make payment may affect your ability to fly with us. You authorise us to deduct such charges from the credit card or debit card used to make your booking. Similarly, if any such tax or charge due is abolished or reduced before we are obliged to pay it you will be entitled to claim a refund from us
got a good deal so not to botherd about an increase as long as its in the 10's of pounds not the hundreds
-
You rest your case Gordon, the only case you have made was showing your rudeness and disrespect to other members.
-
well said, Ronzeus
