Alcohol taxes go through the roof :o again
30% on Raki - now 50 TL for a bottle of Raki
12-15% on wine, spirits and Efes... oh dear, of dear, oh dear :-\
All increases with immediate effect -
-
It'll be a few on the balcony for us of an evening if this keeps up:(
How can they justify such huge increases?
-
Does the goverment not realise the impact that this will have on tourism also? Have they never heard of 5% increases rather than these HUGE hikes?
Not good news for bar/restaurant owners and folks who like a wee drink.
:D
-
Oh dear that is steep.I only have 2 or 3 when I am out and drink my duty free at home but it will certainly push up holiday spending for the ones who like to party.
-
Not only tourism Toky.
I was hoping to retire a couple of years early and join the ex-pats out there. Now I'm not so sure I can afford it!

Since you are in the business I am tentative in contradicting you but internet sources are suggesting things are even more drastic than you say. These say that taxes on ALL spirits are going up by 30%, wine by 25% and beer by 26%.
The AKP say this is to help meet 2011 budget targets. But is it prudent economic policy or religious dogma?

I presume you must be talking about a litre bottle costing 50TL? This article suggests that the price of raki will be 35 TL for a 70cl bottle:

The price of a bog standard 70cl Raki was about 35TL in the supermakets
before a tax increase:(
-
Colwyn - I would suggest religious dogma.
-
Kipa today 2 x 70cl bottles of boxed Yeni Raki only 56tl bargain... They can't put the price up as it's on the promotional box...
-
OMG!! Won't be able to afford any pleasures the way things are going:(
