The sparkly poppies that the ladies have been wear on Strictly and on various T.V. programmes are about £80.00 each. However, the British Legion website have a lovely cheaper version. It's a limited edition Poppy Brooch by Buckley. With postage it's £11.99. and the money goes to a good cause. Also on this site is lot of other poppy jewellery.
A word of warning. The site has been inundated with people wanting the brooches so, it's extremely slow so expect to spend a long time waiting to get one, best to try really early or very late in the day. Got mine this morning ;)

Now look Pookie you may have spent £80.00 on a brooch. I have saved you so much money.. That's gratitude for you: :):D
-
no, I've resisted this one, but I still think you are a terribly bad influence ;):D:D:D
-
Oh dear my favourite flower, Gordon has given the link to a friend (he didn't offer to buy it for me:() out comes the card, well it is for a good cause:D
-
they were advertised on the Alan Titchmarsh show last night, other goodies such as umbrellas and cuff links. Loz - you must love Turkey in May then if you like Poppies.
-
oh dear, the Poppyshop website is 'down'......
-
I didn't watch the show but that might explain why the website was so slow.
Yes Pookie Poppy fields, I used to love going for a drive into the countryside just to look at the poppy fields, I have so many photos but they never look as good as the real thing.
-
off topic slightly, but I remember driving back from Ephesus one May, over the hills. We came across fields and fields of poppies, mainly white 'medicinal' poppies, but I remember one particular field of deep purple poppies, absolutely beautiful and so unusual. Stunning. We are back next May and hope to do the same route - I will ensure I have the camera fully charged this trip !!! (found a lovely red field on the way to Patara (Xanthos way) last spring, that was beautiful, but the photo didn't really do it credit. I always want to run into the middle of the field and take a photo from there, but am worried about the reaction of the farmers !!

No Loz, the website has been slow for a few days now because it has had wide coverage on social networking sites. A lot of woman had been looking for the sparkly poppies and now they have found the site everyone is buying them, seems they have become a "must have fashion item". Apart from this being such a good cause, the bonus is they are made by Buckley and a limited edition.
I was quite surprised when I went to the site and saw all the poppy items they have. I am sure you will be in Poppy heaven.
-
Damn it sold out!!!! I couldn't get on the site to get mine last night and now Ebay is flooded with these poppy brooches; they are going for silly money one has even reached £121.00
-
What a shame, sorry about that Loz.
I did go to the site last night, it took about 5 minutes to get through, but the brooches where still there as I was showing a friend them.
Obviously, as they were being hyped up on the net, people where buying them to make a killing.
It makes me mad that Ebay should be selling them and people making profits which should be going to the British Legion.
-
It's obscene what they are going for on Ebay. There are loads of them, all with bids an folks are too daft or have too much money, to see the profit is going to the seller and not to the British Legion
:(
-
I have been for a look it's absolutely disgraceful. I note some of the sellers are giving 10% to the British Legion!! what a laugh people will think they are being really good. They don't realise these brooches have been bought for £9.99 from the British Legion. What a lot of low lives are crawling around Ebay.
I bought my brooch because I wanted to wear it. I did not want to profit from the resale.
Ebay should stop these sales immediately.
-
Especially for Loz,
If you go into Morrisons and buy the special bunches of flowers with the Poppy Emblem. They donate 10p to the B.L. and give you a free packet of poppies seeds with each bunch.
(See the brooches on Ebay are flying one made £152 last night.
-
Thanks Jacqui I want to go to Ikea tomorrow and I think there is a Morrisons near there.
I am keeping an eye on the poppyshop as one of the sites state that they are awaiting stock.
-
Just looked on Ebay again, I really hope this sellers makes an absolute killing! All profits going to the RBL

Just to let those interested know I got my Buckleys poppy brooch today. It's really lovely, but a lot smaller that it looks in the adverts at 1 1/2" long. Smaller than the poppies we see on the celebs on T.V. I think the people who paid £175 on Ebay when they saw those really large images will be surprised. However, I am happy to have it and glad the money has gone to a good cause. It's so cute it could be worn at any time of the year.
