Thought it was illegal for them to be slaughtered outside the confines of a registered slaughter house.  Witnessed seven despatched this morning without leaving the balcony!......but guess what is for our dinner tonight[?]:D

Is there ever goat on the menu in local restaurants?  I have never tried it, often wondered what it tastes like..probably chicken!!

I also witnessed one poor goat that it took nearly 3 hours to slaughter and skin it,not that I watched for  all that time.Bloody barbaric.

We are usually given some by our neighbours at this time of year. It is delicious....very akin to lamb and obviously it is so fresh having been sacrificed the same day.  Makes an absolutedly brilliant Ottoman Style stew. I guess you can do anything with it that you would with lamb but bear in mind if you are given it by neighbours it will probably be just chopped up in pieces not professionally jointed as you would expect from a butcher :)

I want to try it.  It's a shame they don't advertise goat in the restaurants if it's so delicious I am sure it would tempt some of the Brits aways for the inevitable "Steak".  Goat seems to be the national dish in Turkey but they don't put it in the restaurants, for fear the British would be offended I suppose.  However, the national dish of Malta is Rabbit Stew which I absolutely loved when we were there.

Lamb/mutton is so expensive can't help but wonder if it's substituted with goat?

Peecee, I think you are right because the mince I have bought there certainly does not taste the same and even the smell when cooking is different.  I think that's why a number of restaurants offer an eat as much as you like curry evening - once any meat is in a curry sauce you can't really distinguish what it is - it is really only the texture that is different.  My father would never eat curry after serving for six years with Army in India - he saw too much of what went in it.
