Post by: Scunner on November 18, 2010, 11:17:39 AM
In the earlier topic, c1 says that the wedding of William and Kate will give people something to be cheerful about. Will it cheer you up?

Answers are YES or NO, debates not necessary  ;)

No, and don't buy the souvenirs there will be millions of them.  I still get people thinking that china items etc, from the Queen's Coronation are valuable... The cups/mugs make about £2.00 each at Auction.  Diana and Charles souvenirs cannot get a bid.
I will look forward, however, to seeing the dress and all the guests wedding outfits.

I will doubtless get flack for my view but when has that ever stopped me giving it. People must have incredibly empty lives if the marriage of two people they have never met and probably never will is going to lift their spirits!

When I lived in Perthshire we must have had a different kind of "Flak"!!.
Anyway, why get all excited about the nuptials of a couple who wouldn't even "give you a nod, if they met you in the desert"??

Yes it does cheer me up.  I think the Royals do a grand job for our country and Yes I like the royals (some of them) William is a breath of fresh air for the royals.

I would refer my honourable friend to the reply I gave on page 3 of this thread.  ;): :)

Lisax, more likely to be a nervous tick, than a nod, methinks!! [:(!]

I may have to change my vote on this. My forelock business in thriving and has been upgraded to AA credit status by Standard and Poor. My forelock tugging classes are fully enrolled and I have opened a second production line for manufacture of artificial forelocks. However, sales to CBF members are disappointingly low.

Yes, yes, yes,

I must have a hugely empty life as it has made me smile & wish them the very best & an opportunity for this great land to come together in a celebration whatever your culture or background.

But then I am a simple being, I smile when someone finds out they are expecting, I smile at a bright frosty day, I smile when all the miners where found alive (and I have never met any of them & in fact I cried!), I smile whrn the the 2 ugly people fom the dating web site got engaged. I smile when an ordinary person has an extra ordinary talent (Susan Boyle & Mary Bryne).  I smile when someone beats cancer.  I smile when I ride a bike for the first time in 20 years. I smiled when Jacquie Harvey announced she was a grandmother, I smiled when Scunner recites stories about his girls. I smiled when Highlander shared his photos & his pride of his son's wedding - haven't met any of them either.

Yep an empty life. Just maybe someone who takes pleasure in the cycle of life, whatever that may be and whatever walk of life they maybe from.

Two young people at the start of their life together ( I am conviently forgeting the 9 years of unwedded bonking). Good luck to them in planning their day. I wil look forward to the day, I am actually sad I will be in Turkey at the time of the wedding but hopefully one of the bars will have it on the tele.

I've been known to have a little smile too you know! I think it is nice that they are getting married. It is nice for them, I can't see where exactly it is nice for me, or what reason there might be for me to celebrate. If I do catch a glimpse of the wedding, I might smile. This is because I might smile when I see a wedding taking place at a church I am going past. I don't celebrate though.

For my sins I've got some Welsh and Scottish friends out here, and I'me afraid they would'nt agree with your " proud to be British" comment.
I think everybody's feeling about the latest royal circus act is determined to a point by their geographical location.
I mean, lets be fair, its only you soft buggers down the South who go ga ga over the royals,Northeners I suspect see them for what they are.

Geordieboy the question is about the royal wedding. Nobody else has said anything about people from North or South. Whats that got to do with anything. I think it is very sad that you have this chip on your shoulder. I am from the south and have some wonderfull friends from up north. This north/south thing is only problem if you want it to be. Which you obviously do. But thats your problem. :(
But back on topic i wish them both a full and happy life. [^]

Well I'm very much from the south and I couldn't give a monkey's about the royal family! I am happy for them though as two young people who have found someone they would like to spend the rest of their lives with. My point isn't that I can't be happy for them, it is that I am not uplifted by the news, not going to celebrate or even that interested. It would take a very mean spirited person to not wish them well.

Why couldn't they have their wedding on an existing bank holiday. Read an article today from a small business owner who claims the extra bank holiday could damage his business by paying wages for an extra day of zero productivity [:(!] Anyway every day's a bank hol for me so I'll take the money instead :D:D

scooby doo pet,I believe this thread started off with Scunner asking for replies to be yes or no and not for it to develop into a debate,I made a posting which prompted the reply from your good self that I had a chip on my shoulder ref North and South, nothing could be further from the truth pet,its totally of no interest or importance to me whether you come from North or South or the bloody dark side of the moon.
The point I was attempting to make,in regard to the wedding, which I believe is what the topic is about, was a personal observation, gleaned from my circle of aquaintances out here, was that the majority of those from the North could'nt give a stuff about the wedding or the royals. 8)
