Greetings fellow members!  I'm Heather from Chester.  I have been reading your forum discussions for some weeks now and decided I just had to join in with the fun.  I have never been to Turkey or bought a property before but I will be doing exactly that on 20 Feb.  With that sort of madness, I'm hoping I will fit right in with you nice folks!  So, it probably goes without saying, I have lots of questions (some of which you have gratefully already answered for me) and no doubt you will be hearing from me again soon!

By the way, I have 2 spare (cheap) tickets for 20 Feb, so if you're interested, please check out "Turkey retlated topics - Flight deals" for the details.:D

Hi Heather, and a warm welcome to the forum,  congratulation on taking the giant leap into the unknown,  wishing you all the luck, but is you hit a sticky patch just "oller"  someone on here will have the answers.   Where are you going to start your search, and where are you intending on staying in Turkey.

Welcome to the mad house. You sound like you will really fit in here. As Loz asks, where are you looking to buy?

Thanks for the welcome!  I am starting my search in the Alanya, Belek, Side area but am keen to check out as far as Fethiye.  My only real reason for deciding on this area is because it is close to Antalya airport and therefore accessible all year round for rental purposes.  Otherwise, I am open to suggestions! I've decided to buy in Turkey really as a result of my stubborn nature.  I down right refuse to pay the prices for property in Britain!  How are young first time buyers supposed to afford anything in the current market?  Anyway, I'm all ears to you lot wearing the "been there, done that" t-shirts! Heifer, Hi, welcome. We too looked at the Antalya area last year and then came over to Fethiye where we finally purchased. I have to say, the Antalya side was simply not for us. A very different feel to Fethiye, we found it very built up and no where as pretty as Fethiye and the surrounding area. I'm sure however many people there love it and good luck in your search!

Hi Heifer

We went to Antalya for our holiday last year and although we had a great time, it just wasn't for us.  We found that there were a lot of Russians there and the locals tended to speak Russian rather than English (Fortunately, my wife can speak Turkish so it wasn't a problem for us).  We came over to Fethiye in November with the intention of buying somewhere and have just placed the deposit on a property in Calis.

I'm sure you'll love it there as much as we did!

Good luck
Nick

You definately need to look at the Calis and Fethiye area for beautiful scenery and very good properties. Won't be long before this area will be open all year round as they are building a new terminal at Dalaman and a new road and tunnel which will cut the transfer time from the airport!!!! Much more rental potential in this area especially for the BRITS. Contacting this site sponsor will be helpful to you to  will give you some idea.
