Now it's official, straight from Jose!
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3248186/Real-Madrid-boss-Jose-Mourinho-Arsene-Wenger-is-a-loser-at-Arsenal.html
You can't argue with him...:D ;)
-
Personally, I think that "Wagner" is doing quite well, hanging on in there when others are being voted off!! : :) ;)
Gordy.
-
Looking pretty good today at Villa :D
Personally I like the man - has a brain - is passionate and even does a bit on the side - what more do you want! ;)
-
winning something would be a good start..
-
No debt at the club is good...... no Big sh*t owner is better..
would you rather buy it? or win it?
-
Barry - good point - I think we know the answer to that one don't we :D :D :D
-
Jose, Buying a team to win a trophy is one thing but building a team to win one is another.
I would love to know how much he has spent on buying players and mirror that against Wenger!!
I could give the 'Special One' a run for his money as the team I've picked for my fantasy league are top at the moment.
Gobby Italian/Portugese TW*T!!!!!!!! ;)
-
Portuguese Pete.:D
-
Senior moment - he was clearly excited that Dimitar has broken into a trot :D :D
Ps Can't wait to see MoD tonight looks like some really good games :)
Pps Do you get that in Scotland or will you have St Mirren v Alloa :D
-
I thought this thread was about Wagner and was wondering why it was in the football section. They are both crap anyway:D:D:D
-
Eric - NO - he was just below average tonight - the best he has ever been :D

I'm no fan of Wenger but the figure that would be of great interest to me is the difference between his purchase values and his sale values. I'm sure nobody gets close.
-
Used to think he was a very good Manager and a nice guy, but since I read he is like every other French man and thinks having a mistress is O.K. I have gone off him!!
-
Really? I didn't hear that. I'm starting to warm to him :D

Maybe the just wants to win the double.
-
Keith - she was 25 years younger and 6' 2" what more do you need to know?
When asked "what had they been doing?" - I bet he said: "I didn't see anything errrrrrrrrr"
-
So hes more market trader than a winner, Man utd have always been the richest club thats why they won more than most, Arsenal won it when they were spending money, Blackburn won it by spending big money and so did Chelsea.
Sorry but spending money has ALWAYS been a requisite of winning. prove me wrong! without going back to Brian Clough.
-
So will Man City win, Tink
-
In 1936 Sunderland won the Div 1 title without spending a lot ;) Only 17/6 on the celebrations Dandelion & Burdock and spam sarnies :D: :)
-
The important thing (to me anyway) isn't how much you spend, it's how you are able to. Manchester United (in general) generated the money as a business, that allowed them to spend and be successful. That's quite different to a rich bloke turning up with money to burn.
-
when was that then?
-
Up till the day the strange looking Americans turned up :D

So.. Man Utd generated more money than anybody else as a business so were able to spend more..and won more things..
-
The profit and loss figures of Martin Edwards' association with a football club would I suspect be rather different to those of Abramovich. The point I am making (and you are choosing to miss!) is that if the day comes when the Premiership is won by the team with the richest sugar daddy, is the day when the English game and sport go their separate ways.
-
whether the money has come from the most car boot sales or a rich sugar daddy, the club spending the most money has always won.
-
If you generate the money there is nothing wrong with that.
-
Come on Blackpool.............
Ps Very worrying when Bolton are £93m in debt
-
I'm not a Wenger fan either. Started with 1 British born player today. A disgrace!

Leeds won the last ever First Division title without Howard Wilkinson spending anything like what some of the other clubs had spent.
The Premiership is different though - now if you don't spend you have little chance of winning it. However the richest club in the UK is making a damn good job of trying not to win it (eh Number 1?)

Stoop, I don't get this argument as I believe that if they are not good enough to make the team then they just are not good enough.
I had this discussion last year and when we checked the extended Premiership squads for young English talent, Arsenal were in the top 2 for having the most hopefuls on their books. These players are coming through the youth teams and have the best of facilities to help improve their game. There are a few of these players that are not willing to sit things out and await their chance and as such they look for a transfer to a team where they stand more of a chance of getting 1st team football.
If I'm being asked to pay anywhere between £35 - £70 to watch my team play then I expect them to field their strongest team as I want to be entertained. Have a good look around your everyday life to see just how many English manufactured goods you own or use to get through the day.
Any British player rule that comes into force will only result in big money spenders snapping up the best players available and at much over inflated prices. In my opinion it would also result in supporters not getting full value for money, they may as well go watch a match in Div 1 or Championship.
-
Thing is though, Fletch - when teams field players that have come through the ranks they tend to want to play for the club not just for the money. You must have noticed over the last few years that when the going gets tough the Arsenal get stuffed.
Great to watch but no passion for the club and at times it shows. I'm not saying ditch them all but a spine of local talent would help no end and turn them into winners again imo.
-
Agreed that Arsenal need to toughen up at times but the old way of battering someone off the ball is now being eliminated in the higher leagues and most of it is left to lower league level where most of the British players are.
Your line about having a spine of local talent is fine, if they are up to the job and have the technical ability to consistantly achieve at the highest level. Playing British players because they are British is just not a good enough reason.
Drop the quality of the top teams and you without doubt will compromise the quality of football infastructure due to the reduced revenue from TV rights etc. Once the damage has been done where does that leave England's hopes of securing world competitions or even fielding a top competetive team, no money equals no future I'm afraid.
Beckford looked great at Leeds but is now struggling at a higher level. He came through the Chelsea youth team and whilst at Leeds stepped up to the mark when playing against Man Utd but those games seemed to be his cup finals as he is now pushing 27 years old and just ordinary. David Bentley, spoilt attitude and thought he was better than he actually is and now just ordinary.
In the premiership today there is for me only one established world class player, struggling, injured and out of form but when he is fit then John Terry is a player I would love to see play for Arsenal.
-
Nice FA Cup draw - repeat of the '72 final. I hope you are ready for the noisiest fans in the country calling at the Emirates :)
Great draw for Leeds. Nobody expects or wants us to win (including most Leeds fans) but if we do it will be almost as sweet as beating the Mancs on their own turf last season.
This one has TV written all over it. Along with the Liverpool v Manu game.
-
Come on Stoop, you are always going on about being a big club so please don't give me the old "nobody expects us to win lark". :o
Bring out all your British players as I'm sure they will want to play for their club! ;)
Can't wait for that one, hopefully I will be watching a game in Sunderland that day.....:D
-
Should be a great game.. often a jinx club for us,
but our record against Leeds has been quite good,
won more than we lost.
-
Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying the banter (dare I say craic) between fletch and stoop.
It's refreshing to have two people with their own strong views and passions discussing football without having to use words like "hate" and "scum".
-
Fletch,
To be honest after last season many of us just want a big game and to go out fighting. Last season we got a little distracted by the FA Cup and what seemed like a nailed on promotion went to the last day of the season.
I love the FA Cup but would take promotion over it any day of the week.
As for our British players - yes we have a few but the ones that have come through the academy that are prem class have been snatched by other clubs when we were in need of cash. If we could field Lennon, Delph, Milner and a few others then I would love it. We will however have a decent number of home based players in the team I suspect. Probably 10 with either Becchio or Somma the lone foreign player.
It's also great to see that the likes of manu and Spurs etc are still chasing a few of our academy stars of the future.
Bring it on :)
-
Stoop,I found this to be an interesting read as it combines both of our views: :)

Very interesting read.

I can understand how important a manager is to a football, but I really do believe that the success of a team lies mostly in the hands of the players themselves. A Gooner fan myself I can admit that we are not consistent in games to win anything. A manager can drive the teams morale, pick the strongest players and find the hottest talent, but if players don't play well themselves then it is at their own hands. A manager can only do so much during a match.
Hopefully most of you will agree with me that when Arsenal play good it really is good. When it's poor - well sometimes we scrape through or lose.
Wenger has been at Arsenal for a long time now, if people were really worried then I'd like to think Pat Rice might be in charge now. Also, Fergie's bordering on rubbish now, Man U haven't exaactly been doing great themselves :D
-
I don't agree that Fergie is doing rubbish, unbeaten in the premier league and top of it as well, you don't become a bad manager over night.
It is upto the manager to build and to some degree buy the players for his team, if they are not going to gel it is up to him to identify and explore other avenues by using his extended squad.
I do agree that players have to perform and take accountability for a bad personal performance. Too many times manager's take the flack for when a player does not perform, players also know this and can at times get away with murder.
I have always said that when I go to watch the Arsenal, the performance is everything and winning the bonus. I am now involved in a project helping to maximise and enhance the matchday experience for our fans, it is at the moment not so good and we are in the process of re-building a team of staff to correct this. I want supporters to leave our stadium after a match with the feeling of having had a great few hours of entertainment and receiving value for money no matter what the score is. :D:D
