Title: Fewer Christmas cards
Post by: Toky on December 23, 2010, 11:25:28 AM
Have you received fewer cards this year?
I have noticed a substantial difference in the amount I got this year compard to previous years. A lot of friends have opted to send e-cards this time and I really don't blame them when you consider the cost of postage.
A lot of cards now require the "large" stamp and thanks to 4 of my friends who have cost me £1.19 each for the pleasure of receiving their card, as they'd put a normal stamp on a card that required a large one and I'd to pay the surplus!

:D

I think quite a few are yet to come but definitely people are choosing the ecard route - and also for presents as deliveries are impossible to rely on - Amazon gift certificates that you email make good sense. We got a card with a tenner each inside for the girls and had to pay £1.10 before we could have it. How mean, and the kids weren't impressed either when I gave them their £9.45 each!

I think the system of measuring and weighing cards is putting a lot of people off of sending stuff as it is so ambigous.  Even within Royal Mail people find it annoying to deal with.  And some of the mail that hasn't arrived yet, might be held up in the surcharge system.  I think the best advice for future card sending is, stick to well below the size that might incur a surcharge and that way you wont be landing people with a bill.

I think many people are realising what a waste of time cards are. With modern technology its so easy to stay in touch with people if you choose and if you dont , whats the point in the once a year gesture?

When my wife was working in the hospital she worked with around 40 people. She decided that rather than send cards, she would donate that money to the paliative care ward. Less waste of paper, and a few luxuries for the patients.

Maybe you are running out of friends  ;):D

We've got roughly the same this year but with some friends we decided a few years back to give money to charity instead of buying the cards. Works well.

Got a few extra delivered for people who live in our street or in a different street, locally, with the same house number. Obviosly casual sorters getting it wrong.

Cheeky beggar Stoop!!! LOL. Charity thingy is a good idea, but I don't trust myself to actually send the donation. It didn't help this year, that I still can't find the 40 Christmas stamps I bought in November!!! So much for being organised. BTW, another 9 cards arrived this afternoon, one with a sunstantial amount of paper money in it....crazy, but grateful it arrived intact.
:D

Not from me John, I much prefer to send anonymous cards where I have simply added the words "STILL WATCHING" from random letters cut from newspapers.
